Counterpoint to the "toy" tagging: If it puts one in an inspired state then it doesn't matter what it is (ie: iOS App, expensive hardware etc). Many can make things that "sound good" but what really matters to me are things that feel Inspired. Groovebox can be super inspiring.

Everybody is different when it come to inspiration. Personally I don’t click with Grooveboxes when it come to inspiration even the most pro expensive ones but we are all different.

So I think that what you state is pertinent as it not apply particularly to Ampify Groovebox. In the 80 some basic children’s toys sell as toys have inspired great music.

  • I have always liked this app! Gets my creative senses flowing and that is always a good thing to get started on something because this app sparked it! <3

It is only a groovebox to sell IAP.

Fun, nice , relaxing and easy but just à IAP Groovebox not open to serious midi world to be kind.

I use it with pleasure just to relax at the same level as a game like candy crush , a nice game no more for me , it will never enter my studio it is on my folder iPhone iPad with other classical old games like Tetris.

    Well said, Proppa.

I disagree. I think maybe that’s all it is to you but there are dozens of comments in this thread of people saying the opposite.

  • I disagree as well. I've had more studio tracks start life as Groovebox sketches than any other app by far.

  • I just say groovebox doesn’t click with me for inspiration, we are all different and I am happy if other find inspiration and sources in it to make tracks in their daw. I respect it so please respect that er are all different.

    Plus plus.

  • When I export the stems, if you have more than one scene in the song mode, it exports all scenes separately even though some are exactly the same. How do you guys work this out. I don’t have Ableton live so I export as wav files to Cubasis 3.

I agree, and have had the same experiences

I have been known to just preview the stems and eliminate dupes…or I have also tried going thru the scenes and changing the “dupes” a little bit…to create more variations

  • Would love if this got AU treatment eventually. Being able to use the drums and synths as Audio Units would be incredible

The IAP samples are very good , a way to use it can be to export some samples in your daw it must be legal as you bought a sound specific bank ? Ok it is not AU but it is an idea that come to me.

Bad or good idea ? Thanks for ideas about it .

I don’t think Ampify will do it AU v3 to tell the true I never think it wasn’t AU as I didn’t bought it to use in a Daw just because it was nice and fun.

As far as I know it’s all cleared for fair use, royalty free. I know that’s the case with Launchpad so I would assume it’s the same in Groovebox.

I do that a lot with the drum sounds. You can export a loop onto Koala or Sitala and make a kit of it.

What is fair use ? Usually it is to modify the sample and add it with at least an other track like a vocal. Is it the same with Ampify groovebox and Bloc waves ?

By the way, Loopy Pro switches that way when phase-lock is turned on.

So we have direct jump and phase lock. Hmmm

And Koala calls it 'SEQ: SNAP'.

+1. All 3 Ampify apps-LP,BW & GB are awesome apps. I use them every day. Very high quality all of them. A few new sound packs for BW & GB wouldn't hurt either! Cheers, ED

Actually that’s the name for when you want to trigger a sequence and have it start on the next bar or next 1/8th note, etc, what I’m talking about is actually Koala’s default behavior when switching between sequences, for which there is no name. It behaved that way from day one. Sequence snap is a recent feature introduced to appease those who have no rhythm 😂. I kid I kid. But yeah anyways.

  • Actually, we're, kind of, both right I think, 'SEQ SNAP: OFF' is the behaviour you want to name. 'SEQ SNAP' is the name of the option that allows you to change it. If you first selected 'Advanced Quantisation'

For sure. I could even live with them remaining as IAA if they just updated them to allow direct sampling from other AUV3 and not just other IAA apps. Obviously full AU treatment would be tops though 🔥

  • I'd need your video tutorial for that LOL as your miles ahead of me in wanting those new features! I am happy with it working in AUM so I can't really complain. I did ask a year or so back if they could make the BW EQ thing stay in place once I've tweaked it but I don't think that ever happened (its a pain to reset everything all over again when I get back to making a song). I enjoy your sharing of your music knowledge and your helpful posts on here so Cheers to you and the fellow members of our very special board. I am more of a lurker and a learner on here. Some of the new feature requests like Samu's go way over my head. But I respect him for challenging himself with each new Synth release. He sets the softsynth benchmark so high on here so my hat goes off to him: RESPECT!!! I am in awe of his technical expertise. I never understand any of it but he is very impressive in his synth knowledge that he freely shares with us.My question is : Hi Samu! When are you gonna build your own perfect softsynth so I can buy it already!!! (Throws money at the Ipad screen)-Best Wishes, ED

A tutorial on sampling directly into the app you mean?

And I agree, there are so many knowledgeable people here. @Samu is a legend!

    Cheers, Ed :)

  • Hi HS,
Any tutorial with advanced feature wishes would help us less tech savvy music makers. Since I am not even clear about your question I guess the answer is yes. I hope I am not the only one who needs to start slow with the tech basics before I can even understand Samu our very own AB Legend. Cheers to you too, you are also an awesome resource on here. -Grateful for all the brilliant knowledge sharing and the vast resources on here. I self taught myself starting from zero synth knowledge and rely on tutorials, demos and the wisdom of the magical mystery Bus by super folks like yourself! Its been a fun journey.-ED

At least you’re figuring it out! That’s all that matters :)

Once you get to a certain point everything else just clicks. I still have tons to learn myself and I’ve been at it for 20+ years 😂

I don’t have any tutorials of my own but Doug has one on YouTube that’s great. And almost an hour long!

Thanks for the kind words. Happy holidays to you ❄️

  • Thanks so much HS! Inteally appreciate the encouraging words! Sure, I will go to TSTR for more help as he is another legend around here! A very Happy Holiday to you too. Keep on keepin on!-Elektrik Diva
