Oooo I’m excited to see what made the list. Gonna watch tonight
Tomofon? Doubt.
There were 10 new synths? In 2023?
List? aka TL;DW ..
You doubt that people can have different opinions? I love it and it would be in my personal top 10 synths from this year.
Definitely agree with BA-1. I ragged on it when it was first announced, and I thought "for that price there should've been more to it". Bro, I've used BA-1 moreso than any other synth I've bought this year. It's the mutts nutts. Simple, but the sounds it can produce are out of this world!
And Buttersynth is simply stunning.
Yep I’ve used BA-01 a ton this year. Mela 4 would be my personal pick for #1 though I think. Unless Pianoteq counts. Then it may be tied 😂
Pianoteq was featured in Doug's excellent video. Unfortunately that's just a bit too pricey for me. (Yeah said the tosser (me) who bought himself a pricey Op-1 Field 🤣 )
😂😂😂 I bought it around when it came out and definitely don’t regret it one bit. I’m actually thinking of buying the upgrade soon. (After the 404 of course. That’s the priority 😂)
Good your 404 is priority. Man I can't wait to hear what you make with it.
Thanks mate I’m super excited. Been binge watching videos to tide me over until after the holidays 😂
@HotStrange are you doubting that i have a different opinion??
No but your wording made it come across less like you’re opinion on the app and more like yore either doubting it’s validity to even be on the list or doubting that anyone would include it in theirs.
Then to be clear, i triple doubt anyone had it on their list. I was one super hyped for it, and i didn't accept my ears good judgment when in videos of course saying "such amazing sounds" and it was every single preset being the same nasal rubber chicken sound. Over and over. I wanted to pretend that somehow the video reviewers just weren't showing its true power. *shrug
I can doubt whatever i want.
I would welcome a video of your workings with it, im open to the idea that it's just tricky to work with, or maybe those were the only 10 synths to come out this year so no matter what it was gonna be on a list of 10 synths
So you are indeed questioning the validity of other people opinions. Why would anyone lie about that? 😂 And why is it so hard for you to believe people like different things? lol strange…
Some people still haven’t realized music and taste is subjective I guess 🤷🏻♂️
nasal rubber chicken sound 😂😂😂 the word creativity around here astonishes me
I actually get where he's coming from with that description lol 😂
After I made the entire project with just BA-1, I’ve changed my mind about the synth. It’s still fantastic and a good-sounding synth, but as it is designed, it's very niche, and it’s made for a specific sound type.
Tomofon made me love Klevrgrand even more, I bought several other tools from them after that.
Dagger should be called "Monster." If this ever becomes a hardware synth, it will spawn a whole cult around it.
Hilda forced me to make a graphical diagram of signal flow, UI is a complete nightmare for my eyes. But I will never give up on that synth, when I crack it, you will know it.
Pianoteq purchase is strategically 💸 on wait.
About the Doug “Top 10” Patreon list, I don’t accept any 2023 list seriously if there is no Twin3 included even as the bad one. But I still love them all. I mean, people that support Doug, they just don’t know how to make a good list. 😂
2023 is not over yet. On December 18, Steinberg's HALion synth will be released as an IAP for Cubasis...
I know this from the desktop version for Cubase.
If the iPadOs version is similar, it will improve the quality of music production on the iPad.
Twin3 deserves a spot without a doubt. It’s fantastic and probably. Both UI and sound.
Very much agree about Dagger as well. Even just as an iPad app I can see it garnering quite a following. It’s not easy to make a genuinely unique synth app and they did it. I think Tomofon fits that mold a bit too.
agreed…definitely looking forward to Halion
Erm, it has the signal flow marked on the UI with arrows and everything. 🤔
NB I’m just puzzled, not arguing with your experience!
I would have put it in my top 10. It takes some work to get what you want from it, but it’s worth it when you realize how unique it can sound.
Twin 3 did almost make it in, it is a great synth
I agree. I bought Tomofon and refunded it. It seems to basically make the same type of sound no matter what you feed it with. I don't want to spend hours programming this, when it could be better spent on ID700 or something similar.
Mela 4 is my personal pick for top synth this year. Surprised it didn't make the cut.
It has some very good presets in the paid packs, so it must be possible to get interesting stuff out of it, but I also failed miserably despite extensive study of the manual, repeated attempts to make my own patches etc.
I think it’s definitely one of those apps that needs a lot of work as I spent quite a bit of time on it before I started to hear some interesting sounds. Without tweaking it does sound quite ordinary.
It’s worse than cables, and I have a hard time grouping sections (modules). I’m also puzzled as to why you are puzzled, haha!
