    This looks completely mental.

And it’s not that there are alternatives, but switching from one workflow to another is always a pain.

Agreed. I have various options for painting (artrage, sketchbook, rebelle, krita, etc) and they are fine to get along with.
But although I have affinity Photo and Designer for personal use, I still struggle with the workflow. Even more so because on my work computer I still use Photoshop and Illustrator

Affinity is great stuff, and I hope they stay non subscription as I understood they are taken over by Canva.

Canva’s size ensures Affinity will be able to stay non-subscription (I think). On the other hand, they could conceivably offer a more capable version or an online version for subscription also.

In the end they always try to figure how to squeeze more cash from customers one way or the other. I used to work for years with ZBrush (3D sculpting) until it got taken over by Maxon and it’s all subscription now. And it’s not that there are alternatives, but switching from one workflow to another is always a pain.

Personally, I find Affinity (all of their offerings) to be pale imitators compared to the capabilities of Adobe's offerings and I only use Affinity (the first versions) because they were a one-time cost. I have not upgraded and I have no plans to upgrade unless the first versions become completely unusable at some point. But the technical limitations in their software can be quite excruciating at times.

True. I have worked with PS since 1997 and still have CS5 on my Mac, I can do everything like it’s my instinct. > @NeuM said:

True. It is at times hard and sometimes I happen to search all over the place for something I can do with my eyes closed in PS. But let’s not forget it took Adobe more than 30 years to evolve PS as it is today. If there is a clone out there that has almost everything in the same place and does what PS does I would like to know, but every demo I tried so far has more or less its own way of doing stuff. I can’t remember how many times I reinstalled Gimp and deleted it again. :D

TLDR; Scroll down for better apps imo

Okay so I used this app for a shoot a couple weeks ago. It was a nightmare.

This app fails at a majority of basic things. While I’m sure the people there will sort out the bugs in time, I’m dubious. It has a ton of audio issues (relevant to this forum, and any basic film app let’s be real) - no audio saved, no audio on export, clipping, etc and it constantly drops the last few seconds / minutes of recording leaving just clips of the shoot.

Not user error, this is my one area of creativity experience that I don’t self-doubt or question my abilities in.

Most of the LUTS seem to need the latest iPhone (utilizing AppleLOG I imagine) so you won’t even get to use a ton of them unless you got the latest.

Further more, as of now, this Pro App doesn’t let you adjust White Balance, they don’t claim to either because of course, but it’s weirdly marketed as professional and that’s the most basic function of any camera claiming to be professional.

More concerning, the responses on the App Store are a cut / paste basic respond that make 0 to no sense to some of the written reviews. No empathy. Just lame for a dev. While I get just not wanting to get into on their page, it’s just not a good look.

Maybe I’m biased because of this forum and the many great, responsive, knowledgeable, and empathetic devs here on ABF and in iOS Music in general, but those comment left me feeling weird about them.

This is a point / film / develop done type of app. Not professional. Marketed as Professional and Content Creation worthy, but it’s the bare minimum.

Anyone looking for a more stable professional product should try other options first In my opinion though.

Blackmagic has a free camera that gets updated regularly and overall might be the best camera on iOS. Even with the other I’m sharing that are paid, it’s worth mentioning this is a great app. Obviously part of their biz funnel to get people to their desktop editors. But it’s lovely.

Another camera/film app of note is Cinema P3 I’ve used this for multiple shoots and found it reliable and easy to use. Probably my favorite one since Filmic is no longer worth using. 7 day free pro trial. $12.95 for full unlock. 100% worth it In my opinion.

Beast is pretty good but the UI is wild. A bit overdone but for $3 it’s absolutely worth it.

    Hope this helps.

Side note - if anyone wants just a point / film / develop - Kino might be great for you! But heed this advice, trying to help!

Also obviously appreciate you @Poppadocrock and you share the deals as you find em, just figured since I have real life usage on this I would share.

  • I’m glad you did @offbrands ive never used it so didn’t know. It will definitely help those trying to decide, cheers.

    .

I bought Beast back when it was a much higher price, and it was worth it for the stable high bitrate.
Didn’t know about Blackmagic’s app, so thanks for that.
