Red Rock Sound possibly leaving iOS!!!

*Politics aside, I just wanted everyone to be aware

Due to U.S. imposed sanctions (they’re located in Russia), Red Rock Sound’s iOS development was slowed. This explains the lack of a simultaneous release on iOS for RRS Punch! For the last few months they’ve been unable to receive payments from the App Store, and it has unfortunately come down to this. If you don’t have these plugins and interested, grab em.

Red Rock Sound plugins cover the “legendary” 1073, Pultec EQ-1A collection, Neve 33609, SSL Fusion Image, plus a bunch of API gems! Their Polivoks plugins are also iOS gems! Most are $5 each (insanely great prices) and the quality is TOP NOTCH!

  • It’s just incredible!
Musicians are not interested in the war, but we get punch from politics, and RRS is so nice developer… ok maybe it’s time to purchase more from them. I believe they will get their money soon or later.

Such a good developer for iOS and desktop as well 😔

  • Damn, that’s a bummer. They really have some great plugins. I was actually about to buy a couple more so maybe I’ll just get their desktop versions

  • How sad, I own most of them, very good quality.

This is sad, they are a really good developer with a lot of great and useful app.
I would think that eventually they will get all related sales back, yes?
It would be interesting to know if Apple are still taking their fee for hosting, and also if they are taking their “per app fee” while RRS’s money is still being withheld.

    For sure they do.

  • @HarlekinX I would think so too, which would mean that Apple are profiting from their own sanctions.

It's not really Apple who put the sanctions into place as they have to follow the law in every country they operate in...

@samu fair enough, it’s not Apples fault, but do you think they are still profiting from the sanctions they had to put into place?

Probably, but the tiny amount of money involved wouldn't pay for cleaning Tim's white sneakers.

"Politics aside" is a funny request, considering politics is 100% what is stripping this developer of his lifelihood 😂

And it only affects their 'iOS Apps' as their desktop sales continue as normal via other payment methods...

Yes, the Office of Foreign Assets Contol in the US maintains a list of sanctions that all US companies have to abide by.

  • Well this blows. Hope it gets sorted.

I know how touchy these subjects can be. I was only trying express there wasn’t any personal politics or agenda in me passing along the news

I'm not so sure about the "If you don’t have these plugins and interested, grab em" thought. I think I'd rather be sure that they will actually get their money.

btw, it's probably not Apple doing anything at all. It's probably the various banking transfer systems that have been disabled for Russia due to sanctions. Many international transactions aren't possible because of these payment systems being cut off.

    Yes sure, I got that.

You are correct, they said is not Apple

Agree about making sure they get paid. Nonetheless, what are their top 3 apps in the sense that there is no current alternative on iOS? Apart from the two Polyvoks ones perhaps.

  • edited January 2024

I give you one each in different categories. Keep in mind these are “character” based plugins

    RRS Comp 609 (Neve 33609)

    RRS EQ560 (API 560)

RRS Fuse Stereo Image (SSL Fusion Image)

I couldn't say. I had never heard of them before this. 😂

Sad to lose a good iOS plug-in developer. They make very good plugins and are reasonably priced. I have a lot of them. Gonna grab a couple more before it’s too late.

  • edited January 2024

Then..there are the “heavy hitters “ RRS EQ173 (Neve 1073)

RRS PEC (the entire Pultec EQ-1A collection in one plugin)

And you guys already know about the Polivoks plugins

Mixbox has a EQ-1A but it isn’t the collection. Klevgrand has the Go-To but the EQP-1A from RRS performs more like the UA Pultec plugin. RRS also sells each Pultec component separately

Again, this is the only developer that covered these on iOS

  • Nice write up @ninobeatz

I'm thinking DDMF do the Neve but their 6144 eq is actually based on the Portico 5033.

@RedRockSound Wishing you the best and hope the apps come back to iOS if you are forced to temporarily park them.

  • While I like that you can test the app first before buying, I have no idea how much it costs until I install.

Whats the price ranges? 5-20 or 30+?

They’re $5 each! The Pultec collection is $8 and I think the Polivoks is $8 also. You purchase through IAP

Nice stuff, easy to use. Thanks!

  • One thing to bear in mind is that the war will end, and so will the sanctions regime that is punishing all Russians, not just those perpetrating the war. There's no reason to think that once these "complications" are gone RRS will be back.

I was looking at their Pultec apps today but I'm hesitant to buy if there are reasons to think RRS can't get paid.

  • I’m curious, if they pull them from the App Store then they won’t restore or transfer when you upgrade to a new iPad correct? They’re one of my favorite devs on iOS so I may have to keep my current iPad on top of a new one just to be able to use these. Their Polyvoks synth and filter app are 2 of my favorites.

Back up the apps to a desktop using iMazing if you can. You should be able to restore them to another device even if the apps disappear. The free version of iMazing is enough for this.
