Thanks for reminding me, I think I just managed to reproduce it. Just down with the worst flu since 2018 so I'm a bit slow 😬
No worries. Priorities health, rest & recover first...
Sure! It's fixed though I think, will push another beta shortly! Thanks again.
If possible please consider adding some kind of 'noise removal/reducer' thing.
Maybe just select a portion of audio and use that as the basis for noise-removal?
It could be a nice 'DSP challenge' to create a slick noise-remover with live audition?
Cheers!
Sure, I want that as well! I have a noise-reducer on the roadmap and thought up an algorithm. I've never tried it, but I trust it will sound great 😄🙄
Hey all. New Beta has been approved by Apple and is available through TestFlight. I'm still down with the flu so not as fast or sharp as usual to respond, but let's hope this one fixes all outstanding bugs, then we can move on to adding a few important features that have been discussed here
@Samu this should finally fix mixed pen / mouse / touch input! Hooray
Seems to work ok now!
Just have to remember to use the finger to pan/scroll the waveform instead of using the pencil
In everyday use I think I'll just my fingers more anyway.
I did come up with a 'nice thing to have' I dubbed to 'selection snapshots' to mark multiple parts of an audio file for quick access. It would fit so nicely together in the toolbar with the 'all' and 'played'.
These 'selection snapshots' could for example be auto-populated when dividing an audio-file into x sections.
This would make it easy to quickly select a portion and process it etc.
But for now I'm happy the crashes are sorted out, bring on da noise (remover) LOL!
Cheers!
The UI bug reported earlier is fixed 👍
Brilliant! Thanks
OK -- I guess it's really hard to do UI/UX design these days where you basically have to expect users to be using 3 separate and conceptually different pointing devices simultaneously 😂
Yes it's a good idea, I've had the itching for something similar... but for now, I have to get closer to a feature freeze. I am, however, implementing loop points export right now 😎
I want to keep this simple for now:
Noise remover will be for 1.1!
Cool, this makes 'selection snapshots' almost essential
(ie. when loading a *.wav file with embedded loop would automatically become one 'selection' and the 'whole file' another etc.).
're-shuffling' content within the file could be done by re-arranging the 'selections list entries' and even repeating selections by duplicating the list-entries. The selection that will be used as the loop could be check-marked in the list etc. etc.
Absolutely no need to add, just 'brain-farting' loudly...
Cheers!
Will BPM be stored in the file too by any chance? Not critical - just asking.
Oof, what CHUNK (chink chunk chonk) does THAT get stored in? I haven't seen it in the just-implemented
smpl
chunk. Why is all this shit so complicated and badly documented? @Samu? (no I know you're not at fault, just asking you as the knowledgeable person 😂)Man the whole computer industry and internet really needs to be re-created from scratch, this time with a proper plan!
Could be one of the regular 'markers' (I'll have to check)
Here's a *.wav file at 68BPM
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/0f4sgl22zl9gvqmoiyek1/SL68BPM.wav?rlkey=yk14k6q19umhuqt5hqz8nrn3p&dl=0
It's saved from Logic and the label is simply 'Tempo: 68.0' in most audio editors.
Have to see if I can find a web-site that extracts all meta-data
There a JUNK chunk with additional markers, so Logic adds a marker with a tempo text.
There's some additional data in the BWAV(Broadcast Wave) chuck as well.
If I embed a 'loop point' using Logic's audio-file editor it's saved in the 'smpl' chunk.
It's a mess for sure
Yeh, no. I'm not an expert. In fact I know nothing about how it's implemented, only that it's recognized in several audio editors apps, and DAWs on various platforms.

Looks like to handle this without going insane, you have to be Chunk Norris 🤠
Thank you. Yeah, this seems to be proper chaos! I'm actually thinking of postponing loop point and BPM export until v1.1. The ability to choose between 'Export All' and 'Export Selection' also severely interferes with the original philosophy of the app.
But on the flipside, the built-in Recording feature is finished and I hope to upload a new beta tomorrow
😂 exactly. I'll show the emperor ALL THREE middle fingers 😁
Hey folks. Unfortunately, slight delay here... one of my displays broke 🥴 Thanks for your continued interest!
@SevenSystems I just noticed, when trying to share an audio file from the files app to Meow, that Meow doesn’t show up as an option on the share sheet .. it would certainly be a handy option to have.
It doesn't for me either, but it's possible this is the infamous problem with iOS where if you have "too many" apps installed that can handle a particular file type, the apps don't show.
Apple picked some arbitrary maximum number of apps to show in the share sheet. The only way around that limitation is to delete apps until the one you want shows!
Perhaps someone with a device with relatively few apps installed could check if Meow shows up in the extended list? Unless perhaps @SevenSystems knows if this was overlooked in the P-List or wherever those things are set.
@wim I share your sentiments. Actually I had this here draft saved:
How do I get meow to appear in the “share with” options. I’d like for instance to share a file from the Dictafone directly. The option doesn’t show, I know this is apple shenanigans, it shows apps that make no sense opening an audio file but not the ones I want
If it is that stupid Apple shenanigans then there won't be anything @SevenSystems can do about it. So I'm hoping he just goofed up. 😂
I don't know if this is true, but one developer told me that if one adds all the individual file types an audio app can open and not just the "all audio types flag" in the plist that the os uses to know what file types an app can handle that it may make a difference as to whether it shows up in the share sheet. I don't know if that is correct, but it is something I was told.
That's some excellent info, if correct. 👍🏼
one note to feature in top "view" icon where you can jump to start and end of selection:
when you do, it always auto zooms and centers loop point .. centering loop points is good, but changing current zoom is not very good.. i would make this auto zoom optional, often you want to keep current zoom an just quickly jump between start and end of loop to precisely set loop points with big zoom detail
+1 and I somehow wish it was possible to view the 'loop/crossing-point' at the middle of the screen and pan the left and right sides independently until the loop is 'spot on'. The whole view would then look like a 'seamless loop'.
This could be called 'view/adjust cross-over point' or some similar?
But I agree that the zoom should not be adjusted when switching between start and end markers.
I'm quite sure @SevenSystems has some nifty tricks up the sleeves
@SevenSystems Nice, gonna take the recording features for a spin
I did notice some minor things that just feel a bit 'weird' ?!
When the waveform is fully zoomed out and you tap either the left arrow next to the left bracket or right arrow next to the right bracket the waveform keeps adjusting its position slightly moving towards the center. (If you keep on tapping the left arrow left of the bracket you can see the waveform scroll slowly to the right).
As for the recording in general it would be handy to see some kind of indication that recording is in progress (yes the button is red but no clue for how long it's been enabled) maybe add a timer or update the waveform view?
Thankfully theres a Left & Right selector in the record dialogue
(I was too blind to see the dotted level meter above the record button).
If it's not too late a DC correction tool in the process menu would almost complete the 'essential tools' (ie. for me dc-correction and noise-reduction would complete the toolkit for now).
I can always loop the samples in the destination app when needed if to becomes an 'obstacle' due to the total chaos with *.wave chunks etc.
Automatically 'expanding' the toolbar buttons if there's enough space could be handy?
'Trim' and 'Apply Fades' could be on-screen all the time for speedier work-flow as one example.
Cheers!
