Is there a limit to the audio file size that can be opened in Meow? I keep getting a crash when trying to open a 522.9 MB file

Yes, it mostly depends on the length of the audio, not the file size. Meow does all processing in RAM, which means it's fast, but unfortunately there's limits on the length.

    @wim Ah .. thanks!

It would be interesting to know if there are any editing solutions on iOS that can handle large files like that.

Let me know if you find any, and I might take them as inspiration to maybe look into optional on-disk or chunked processing 🙂

Can anyone confirm here if they can get 1) audio input from a connected audio interface to work, and 2) in stereo? (doesn't matter if it's on the latest beta or release version as they're identical...)

    Thanks!

I get no audio input through audio interface - can select the device (Sonoma GJ2) in the drop down menu, but just records with the iPhone microphone.

Just wanted to chime in and say I found the buy button. What drove me to do it was that it has an easy workflow for taking larger audio files (not over 20 min) and quickly snapping to bars and exporting, as I need to do this to create loopy sets of some existing songs to play live, but wanted to break them into small loops to perform with. Between that workflow and the fact it was universal led me to purchase, even though I had just purchased auditor a day or 2 before. Yes I wish I had paid attention to the public beta before the release.

    Nice work!

  • @SevenSystems : the samplerate for recording still defaults to 48k - a samplerate (for recording samples) that I never use... Why not save a preferred SR (within Meow) for further use?
Also my iConnectAudio4+ audio interface is still useless in Meow... It doesn't show up as a choice.

Same here. Zoom U22, App Store version

As noted, this on the roadmap for a future update.

Thanks for your and also @branis report. Obviously, far more testing should've been done during the beta with different audio interfaces. Sorry for that! (on the other hand, I find it very surprising that this is such a problem, i.e. that different audio interfaces behave so differently on iOS. But it's noted for a more cautionary approach with more testing in the future!)

In the meantime, I'll clearly note in the app description that audio interfaces are not guaranteed to work for now with the recording function.

  • Suggestion for recording from an interface: Try to un-plug and re-plug the interface while Meow is running (yes, like in the 1970s), this might just fix it.

  • A tiny ask, and forgive me if I’ve overlooked it, but it would be very helpful to have the current file name displayed onscreen. My memory isn’t what it was 65 years ago, LOL.

Haha :) yes, has been requested a few times, and it's noted, I'm still investigating where to put it in the UI so it doesn't get distracting or eat up valuable space.

    Hey everyone,

there's an update incoming featuring a new light theme and hopefully improved scrolling support via mouse / trackpad.

A new public beta has started, link here:

    https://testflight.apple.com/join/cOPaXZDU

macOS -- I've enabled experimental macOS support (Apple Silicon Macs) via 'Designed for iPad', would be curious to see if this works and has no issues, in that case I would consider enabling it for the next App Store release as well.

    Thanks for testing!

    NEW:

    • Introducing a new beautiful light theme when your device is set to light mode.

    IMPROVEMENTS:

    • Improved scrolling via mouse wheel / track pad.
    • Layout and font fine-tuning.

    FIXES:

    • Disable the 'Play' button while the 'Rec' dropdown is open.
    • Fix rare crash when starting playback with a zero-length selection while dragging selection handles.
