Weeping Wall for iOS

edited February 16 in App Development

I was surprised when I dropped by today, to find no mention of Weeping Wall for iOS, currently under development.

I bought the plugin earlier this year, and was fortunate to be invited to the iOS app beta. The developer behind Weeping Wall is Aqeel Adam, you'll find his software account on Instagram at http://instagram.com/aqeeladamsound

Recently, he released this video of his own work in progress, that will give you a taste of what's coming:

I can vouch for Weeping Wall plugin also, now out of its launch pricing, but still worth checking out as there's a trial available. It will give you a clue what the app will bring to the table. So far, it's looking like it has all the functionality on iOS as the plugin for Mac and Windows.

You can find the demo version of Weeping Wall on Aqeel's Gumroad page.

  • Oh wow! I grabbed the free trial for Mac. I liked it, but wasn’t convinced it suited my workflow on desktop…. Would definitely be interested in iOS version. Thanks for the heads up @andowrites 🙏🏼

    You're most welcome.

  • Oo this looks lovely, maybe even another case of it’s actually better on iPad than laptop…

I think it's good on both, and I love being able to use it on both.

The wonderful thing is that this is just Aqeel's first plugin/app — I can barely imagine the journeys he might take us on.

Yeah it’s a bit of a genius move for a first go! I’ll try the demo later I think, though I’m too skint for an actual purchase this month, maybe down the line…

Right now trying the desktop version (demo with drop out) and I don't know, a little bit disappointed I guess, as I thought it would alter the input sound a lot more than it does. The reverse effect is cool. Maybe I haven't fed it the right meal, I'm trying with a clean piano.

  • Thanks for the heads up. Any ETA on the release date? Looks cool.

No dates yet, but it looks pretty much like the plugin version in the current iteration.

I'm not sure it did so much with clean piano when I tried it, but with textures, and various synths, things with grain and character, even slow, quiet things, I've found it to work well. Ultimately, it can create a wall of ambience around the input.

You might find it helpful, if you haven't done it already, to spend some minutes with Aqeel's Weeping Wall video manual:

    I love it.

  • I definitely want something like this. :) Might be able to be built in Drambo (if it doesn't already exist on Patchstorage). And of course Loopy Pro is capable of such things too.

I’m not sure I’ve seen any, or if it would even be possible to build something in either as simple to use though…

  • Interesting. Kind of a politer version of SpaceFields, with the option of more loops and without the dynamic loop length. Could be a very useful addition to my toolkit.

True. Guess I'll have to wait for the iOS release then, lol.

That's a great way to describe it, that's the vibe I got too :))

I’m just starting to wonder if I could do something clever in mirack to tide us over, seems possible in my head but probably will elude me in reality 😂

  • Can reverse and pitch be set individually per looper?

I’m not sure it can, I’ve reached out to the dev this morning to see if I’m missing how in the demo…

No! You can only select how many loops you want active thus there are no additional control specific to the loops, there's just 6 controls and two(2) are for dry and wet, and pitch and/or reverse are on or off, very straight forward and easy to learn.

  • Reminds me of cheatcodes 2 for monome norns a bit. Definetly interested in this!

It's really lovely. And I don't think it will be too long before the V1 release.

Can't wait! Genuinely looking forward to trying this out.

  • I made a patch years ago in Noiise Flux FX using an inverted envelope follower, which somehow randomly grabbed a snatch (2-3 secs) of my playing and looped it forward or reverse, ad infinitum... I really miss that app. Similarly Shards in Drambo will sometimes do this, though I haven't managed to get it to auto grab a one-shot loop and hold onto it consistently. Looks like Weeping Wall has everything I need in a simple user friendly interface. I look forward to patching the output of FAC Envolver to the loop time parameter so that loop length is then related to playing dynamics, and thus a little more unpredictable... which I definitely like...

  • Try four instances of TTAP in parallel (or even in series!).

  • Weeping wall releases on iOS tomorrow!!
