    Not sure what more I can do with this. Any suggestion welcome but I'm a bit over it now.

    I hear what you're saying about being over a tune. But this one is great. Great song structure. Your voice sounds great. Nice production. Sounds pro. I wouldn't change a thing.

    Anyway, not sure about this one. Started with one idea and then at some point I completely changed everything, so that's absolutely not what was in my mind in the first place but I still liked it. I'm still unable to create something which I really like with SWAM Cello but I suppose it will happen at some point.

    I hear you about things rarely turning out the way you had them imagined.

    I really like this piece. Contemplative. Great sounds. Great mood. Cool progressions. That transition at around 2:00, chef's kiss! Wow almost like two completely different tunes. This is really quite unique. Dug it.

  • @richardyot awesome song , great performance, very good lyrics, the little synth stuff here and there is nice texture and solid production, very nice work

    @klownshed you know this song is amazing. The most recent version especially . I think as always your strengths in building soundscapes and progressions for atmospheric vibes is so incredible and unique, should be doing music for tv:movies

    @Ailerom thats a great track. I love the chord progression, I love the leads and little medleys, I love the vocals and the lyrics, one of my fave rock tracks I’ve heard on here.

    @jo92346 spectacular piece , idk how long it took to do but that must’ve been a lot of time. I like the whole thing, and I look forward to getting to know more of your work . Gorgeous score

    @DavidEnglish as always brilliant, this one was really nice and I liked the trumpet/horn from 3:15 to 5 min melody a lot . Your composition is awesome

    @unlink I don’t mind the places it went, it’s the best thing I remember hearing from you in recent memory, I like the many different sounds you used and it’s all pretty melodies , synths to strings

    @ecamburn i like this song. Strong powerful vocals, I like the sound of the background. It was simple but very nice and effective , and there was a lot of nice harmony and melodies, nice arpegiator , also synths to strings

    Here’s my offering (it’s from my Op-1 Field tests EP if anyone wants to hear more)

    Super-original concept mashing up the heavy guitars with the bouncy synth sounds and the angular rhythms, a fresh style for sure 👍

  • @yellow_eyez , like Richard said, this is super original. Really refreshing. Minimal, swingy, hip hop beats combined with grungy metal guitar drops. Unlike anything I've ever heard. Dug it.

  • @yellow_eyez said:

    Cool stuff. Your sound is developing into something very original. As I said in the other post, this one has ministry vibe guitars with clicky clack drums — what’s not to like? :-)

    I don't post here often but I do appreciate this thread.

    This piece began as a weird beat in Koala. The cello parts are from Thumbjam

    This is the second tune I've released with vocals. Props to @richardyot for this thread (and his book) for motivating me to try vocals and for helping to nudge me out of a bit of a dry spell.

    This is really good. Some of the sounds remind me of Ultra-era Depeche, especially the instrumental tracks like ‘Uselink’. I especially like the bridge with the whispered vocal and cello.

    More songs with vocals next please :-)

    I just wanted to repeat how good I think the entries are this month. There are usually some really good songs posted, but I can’t remember a month where so many properly good songs were shared. The production quality is really good too.

    Thanks everybody. It’s inspiring hearing such good music from our little corner of the interwebs.

    You’re right man. This month was a hailstorm of awesomeness. Every entry was really good. I tried to keep up but you guys are making it hard to showcase when your offerings are that good! lol seriously though Klownshed is right. Awesome work this month, best month yet maybe

    Thanks a lot. I have been trying to develop my own sound for decades not knowing what or why or how, and then I got the op1 field and it all just clicked and fell into place. I don’t know how well I’ve gotten to mesh the sounds together so they work and complement (and not clash) but I’m hopefully making progress. Thanks for saying that. Originality is important to me as an artist so it’s good to hear I made my own sound (sort of by accident which is a bonus because it just means I’m just being me and it came through my music.) you’ve given me some new determination to continue

    The guitar riff is an awesome drone to keep this song rolling along. There are songs I can't think of right now but they have a part that is repetitive but keeps the groundwork for the song going. I love how it disappeared and created a whole different mood but then came back and you are straight back in that zone again. Really cool arrangement.

    This has a really chewy quality to it. Everything is bouncing and grooving and has a sweet groove to it. And the filtering only adds to that feeling for me. Everything has like this gooey sort of synergy to it. The whispering vocals at 3.06 are very nice. There are times when the vocal is slightly off tone and it really stands out because the music is so perfect and clean. There are a few spots where the vocal sounds apart from the rest of the song, like in a different space/place. But overall it's a good vocal for the song. Well written and arranged song.

  • As others have said, a great set of tunes this month…
    @richardyot , beautifully constructed track, interesting all the way through, loved the pitch bending.
    @klownshed , nothing wrong with this at all. Very catchy and I see I’ve got a collaboration version to listen to as well !
    @Ailerom , really enjoyed yours, lovely vocals, liked the acoustic guitars.
    @unlink , lovely gentle track. I sort of agree with the others about the cello. A bit more vibrato and perhaps a repeated phrase to lock onto ?
    @ecamburn , tremendous track, lovely vocal variation and great cello fills.
    I think I’ve already commented on everybody else’s tracks elsewhere… they are all equally brilliant 🙏

    Hi Guys.. Well I have finally done it.. I have started my own Record Label?.. I'm fed up with Labels not paying out, or being toxic as music should be made how you want it to be?.. But mostly screwing all us with the hard work we do for there pockets.. So I have decided to go on my own?.. This is being released today, so i thought Id like to share with you my first release?.. Test the water as they say?.. The world is your oyster?..

    First of all, congrats on starting your own record label! I wish I had the same entrepreneurial spirit and know-how to start anything. :)

    As for the track, man, it gets you moving right away. The vocals are very nice and I like the melodies that go with it. Makes me want to drive at night or at least watch A Night At The Roxbury again. Definitely puts you in the mood for partying.

    I also missed hearing a sax being prominent in a song. :)

    I'm a real amateur at this so ignore if it's flat out wrong, but I think the vocals could sit a bit more in the front as they're a bit overwhelmed by the instrumentation. I don't have any other negative feedback. I think it's a great sounding track!

  • This is the first time I give writing lyrics a try. I can't sing, though, so I used Chipspeech to test the melody and the words to see how they flow. It doesn't pronounce everything right (for example, 'scars' sounds like 'cars' as the leading 's' is barely audible, but hopefully the gist is there.

    If the song is worth a damn, maybe I can convince someone to sing it. 🙂

    The Chiptune vocalist has its own quite cool character, I'm not usually keen on the sound of AI or robo-singers but I found this one quite charming. I also really loved the idea of the cute robotic voice singing about heartbreak, it worked even though it shouldn't :)

    I also enjoyed the synth melodies, the track was enjoyable throughout and well-arranged. If it was me I would probably have made it a minute shorter, but otherwise it was very well produced and put together.

    My entry for the month, another song in open G tuning, with help from @Jankun who provided some additional guitars, synths, percussion, and backing vocals to help up the nasties and the filth :)

    Lyrics in the spoiler:

    Nice diss track. :) The production is something that I don’t think I am familiar with— maybe something like noise rock? The buzzing guitars fit the lyrics!

    I like the economy of the verses with only one word or two and then leading into the pre chorus.

    The sentiment reminded me of an older salsa song I heard which was about bad friendships with people who are basically vampires— there only to take from you and bring you down.

    Nice and cathartic track. 👍

    Thanks for listening. The genre I think would just be alternative rock, noise rock sounds about right :)

    Here’s my entry for this month. I’m amazed I’ve managed more than one track already this year to be honest. I’ll come back tomorrow and post some production notes if anybody interested?

    Vocals courtesy of Mr S. N. Spell. (That’s his rapper name).

    Love the instrumental parts of the song. It gives me major Ramzoid vibes (the Grasslands track). The beat is great and I like how everything is built around it. The pads give the song a nice fullness.

    Lyrics in the spoiler:

    Buzz
    And moan
    Because
    You’re blown

    You look like a man but you’re dirty and grey
    You feast on the scraps that have come by your way

    So fly away
    When the wind blows the right way
    You only stay
    To taunt me here anyway

    You crawl on the ceiling
    A fly on the wall
    I can't even see you
    You're nothing at all

    Dirt
    Decay
    You got
    Your way

    You want to be noticed you want to be seen
    But you can't be loved when you're ugly and mean

    So fly away
    When the wind blows the right way
    You only stay
    To taunt me here anyway

    You crawl on the ceiling
    A fly on the wall
    I can't even see you
    You're nothing at all

    I'll take you on
    Even if you think I'm wrong
    You'll come undone
    And I will laugh so hard and long

    There's always something that will bring you running
    Always something that you come to do

    So fly away
    When the wind blows the right way
    You only stay
    To taunt me here anyway

    You crawl on the ceiling
    A fly on the wall
    I can't even see you
    You're nothing at all

    Not sure I am in the best position to comment on this one. All I can say is that I loved the song the moment I first heard it. Glad @klownshed appreciated the backing vocals on the verses. I was aiming at half sung half spoken rendition in an attempt to mimic Kim Gordon's teasing and cynical detachment. With such a reference I was obviously bound to fail ! Anyway, I believe a close-up video of me tracking those backing vocals could have gathered a large number of views and funny comments on tiktok or IG 😅.
    Since I was involved in this track, I think it is better for me not to post anything this month.

    Funny, when I mentioned ‘noise rock’, I had Sonic Youth in mind. I hadn’t read your post yet so maybe I wasn’t too far off lol

    For the overdubbed guitars added on top of Richard's, I used a very "Sonic Youth" approach for the open tuning with the three upper strings tuned in unison and am mostly playing one single note melody in unison with those 3 strings. Very subtle bends create interesting dissonances that remind me a bit of the sound of a fly. So yeah, you're definitely in the right ballpark with the"Noise Rock" labelling.

  • @richardyot
    Gee, it’s darker than usual tonight. I love how it repeatedly flies out of the shadows to soar into the light. Very strong vocals (both lead and background) and standout instrumentation (especially the drums and electric guitar). Almost vertigo inducing in its deep, sudden contrasts. Immensely innovative.

    @klownshed
    A way cool and highly addictive song. (Though I could be wrong about that.) Has a strong beat with a retro-futuristic vibe. Feels like the dark twin of The Jetsons. How can something this wrong be so right?

    @jo92346
    Uplifting, soaring, inspiring. A journey of varied tastes and moods. Ethereal voices that appear and disappear like wisps of smoke. Very drifty (in the best possible way). I’m in awe of your ability to create this kind of dreamlike edifice. Conjures up fantastic images. Amazing and magical.

    @Ailerom
    Terrific song with a strong voice and instrumentation. Builds up nicely. I especially like the guitar (both in the background and in solo). Everything blends together well. First-rate all the way through.

    @unlink
    Excellent ambient/orchestral song with terrific-sounding instruments and intriguing melodies. Seems simple on the surface, because it’s spare and open. That sets the stage for its many inspired twists and turns. I really this one.

    @ecamburn
    This has a very impressive stereo mix. It’s also an excellent song with strong vocals. The subtle stereo effects on the vocals makes this unusually immersive. It all fits together nicely.

    @yellow_eyez
    An exploratory tune that pits expected musical motifs against unexpected ones. Feels tentative, as though it wants to break out of its cycle. Then occasionally jumps free of its captivity, only to quickly return to its somewhat steady baseline. A portrait of everyday (clickity-clack) life?

    @studs1966
    Great vocals, a strong beat, and spot-on instrumentation. A very polished and smooth production. Makes you want to jump up and dance. Congrats on starting your own record label.

    @AlexY
    I kind of like the Chipspeech singing. It’s a good song. Maybe you can have a real person sing it, but then process the singer’s voice to place it halfway between a human voice and a Chipspeech-type voice.

    I love your interpretation of this piece. You really have given the title such a poetic derivation in relation to the piece itself. So thank you for that. Also you captured that nuance I spoke to Geotony about so good ear, but you know you have a great ear man. Your works reflect it. Thanks again

    Good song. I like the synth lines and song Melodies. I think a real singer would improve it but some of the chip tune vocals would still fit alongside a real singer.
