  • @pbelgium thanks again for the report, bug fixed and update submitted to Apple for review! 🐈

  • There was talk about Meow using the global clipboard, so I could copy from Meow and paste into Loopy Pro. Is that in yet? That would be a huge plus for me👍

Not in v1.1, sorry! But it's firmly on the roadmap for 1.2 ☺️

Thanks for the quick update, but the menus are still not scrolling.

Note that you cannot scroll the menus by touching a slider, you have to touch anything outside slider areas to scroll. In the "Noise Reduction" menu, that can be a bit difficult depending on circumstances -- can you try the title area above the sliders, or maybe near the left and right edges of the drop down?

Okay, that works for the Noise Reduction menu - it scrolls touching the title area, edges or carefully touching the gaps in between. The Filter menu still doesn't.

Alright, which menu, can you post a screenshot? 🍻

  • @SevenSystems is there a way to view the sample rate, bit depth and length of the loaded file?

I checked all just now, and all menus that should scroll, do scroll - except this one. Thanks, once again, for your hard work.

Thanks a lot, I can see what's going on. Fix incoming!

Yes, the project sample rate will automatically be set to the file's sample rate when you use the 'Open' function or choose 'New Project' in the drag & drop dropdown. The length, both in samples and in time, can be seen by tapping either of the selection handles at the bottom. The bit depth currently cannot be viewed.

@skiphunt yes, I understand... and thanks for the compliments :) I want to deliver the best possible user experience in my apps, and that's really only possible with a "proper" macOS app. So it might still take some time, but when it arrives, it'll be great! 😃 so hang tight please, and thanks in advance for your help with testing and for your feedback in general!

And yes, there will probably be another public beta!

Coolio 😎 looking forward to it

...and apologies for the confusion regarding the Mac version -- I was fully expecting that either 'Catalyst' or 'Designed for iPad' would be good enough for a quick Mac version. I was mistaken FOR ONCE! 😁😜

No apology necessary. If you could find a way to have a macOS install use larger type OR that when you drag the app window to be larger, the type scales up too... I don't see any issue just using the iOS version on macOS. The only issue I saw with my brief play with it on desktop was the small type for the interface that stayed small even if you resized the app window.

Is there a setting on your end to allow the type to scale up with a window resize?

No, it's a bit more complicated... My UI toolkit (XUI) actually recognizes the preferred font size the user has set in the iOS Settings app, however, this doesn't work neither on "Catalyst" nor on "Designed for iPad" (the two "easy" ways to port iOS apps to macOS). It's just two of many things that Apple kinda messed up with both systems which is why I can't consider using them for bringing Meow to the Mac. As you might've noticed, I'm a bit of a quality nut (my desire for quality is inversely propoertional to the amount of profit my apps generate) and I really want my apps to work WELL, not just "work" 🥴

There's other issues, like the inability to set the window title (when the "proper" Mac version arrives, it'll show the filename in the window titlebar), or the inability to properly save the session when the user closes the window (!), etc... it's all a bit of a mess!

So, the only really useful way to make a proper macOS app is... to make a proper macOS app 😃

  • For me (unless I’m just missing it) it needs a snap quantise right down to a whole beat… or even a bar for both the playhead and the L & R markers to snap on to.

Both selection handles and the playhead should indeed snap to both bars and beats. Maybe there's a misunderstanding? Can you post a screenshot of the settings in the tempo menu and maybe a short video where snapping isn't working? (make sure the "Magnet" toggle is actually enabled in the tempo menu!)

Oh right - it’s probably me. I’ll check it again when I get back on Tuesday. I’ve only an old Air2 with me at the moment. Slightly strangely the AppStore tells me it will ‘work on this iPad’ but the Air 2 only goes up to 15 and the app tells me that 16.2 is required.

The App Store also tells people that their "Payment is processing" when they download FREE apps 😄

Anyway, let me know how it goes. The tempo menu where you can set up BPM, Time Signature and snapping is invoked by pressing on the playhead, in case you haven't found it (I think discoverability can be improved here and I have this on the roadmap!)

  • Sorry for the dumb question. How do I turn off the light color scheme. The new version changed color scheme on its own.

I resorted to turning on dark mode in control center.. which crashed meow

Hey. Yeah it follows the system theme, but it obviously shouldn't crash when you switch to Dark Mode 😬 does this happen every time? Could you maybe make a short screen recording where it happens?

Yes I’ve seen the ‘payment is processing’ for free apps, I’ve been wondering about that for a few years now 🤔😄

It won’t let me get past the pop up on an Air2 despite previously saying it will ‘work on this iPad’.
Not that it’s a big deal - but that’s what happens. The Air2 isn’t at the iOS 16 party. I’ll try it again when I get back with my Air4.

I don’t know the ins and outs of it, but I would have thought that if it was a fairly simple app then you might want to make it backwards compatible with earlier iOS versions? Maybe that’s not so easy - I wouldn’t know. I think there is a significant population out there who can’t get on to iOS 16 though.

  • I can switch freely between dark and light mode without crashes.
An option to override the system dark / light setting is always nice for apps with dual themes.

During the public beta, we did some testing on iOS 15 and it seemed to be fine, but it's a certain risk and it significantly increases the amount of testing that has to be done, in a market that already has extremely small margins (sorry 💰)... so I opted for iOS 16.2+ only, sorry!

Yes it's the first time I've heard about the problem, maybe it was unrelated to the theme switching. Let's see what @espiegel123 says later.

I have had this request a few times... not sure -- I mean, the system apps themselves, of the holy Apple tree, don't support this either. And I agree -- I mean, you either work in a dark or light "mode" / environment, why would you want each app to have a different setting? Would feel very disorienting and startling to me...

Is there a way to limit to only devices that can support iOS 16.2 then?

Oh definitely yes, you can set any minimum iOS version freely in Xcode...

It don't cost much to throw a toggle switch in somewhere. But I get it that it could bother a developer to do something that seems illogical to them.

That's not what I meant. I meant, can you limit the hardware devices it's compatible with so that, for instance, an Air 2 wouldn't be able to purchase because it isn't compatible?

Let's say I generally like to work in light mode, but when I open Meow it just blasts my eyes for some reason. It would be nice to be able to decide for myself that an individual app doesn't sit well with me in a particular mode without having to toggle dark mode, then go to another app and have to remember to switch again. I could have totally different preferences for editing audio than for, let's say, reading a book.

No big deal, but you know ... freedom of choice instead of someone deciding what you want?

That crash hasn't recurred. I noticed that I have four crash logs from meow from around the same time. I am not sure which of the logs it is. If you DM me an email address, I will send them all to you.

Personally, I would always want the Dark mode -- and would like the option to always use it -- so I don't have to switch the iPad to dark mode whenever I want to use Meow during the daytime. So, if there could be an option for that, it would be great.

Actually, it costs more than I thought since there's not a settings panel. Sorry, I forgot that.
    Slippery slope too. 😉
