Actually, it costs more than I thought since there's not a settings panel. Sorry, I forgot that.
    Slippery slope too. 😉

Can we select other audio input sources other than the ipad microphone?

I can switch freely between dark and light mode without crashes.

Yes it's the first time I've heard about the problem, maybe it was unrelated to the theme switching. Let's see what @espiegel123 says later.

An option to override the system dark / light setting is always nice for apps with dual themes.

I have had this request a few times... not sure -- I mean, the system apps themselves, of the holy Apple tree, don't support this either. And I agree -- I mean, you either work in a dark or light "mode" / environment, why would you want each app to have a different setting? Would feel very disorienting and startling to me...

It don't cost much to throw a toggle switch in somewhere. But I get it that it could bother a developer to do something that seems illogical to them.

No, I do listen to proper arguments and I'm normally all for flexibility. As you noticed in your later reply though, there's no settings menu yet in Meow so while it would technically be trivial to add a switch, UX-wise it really would need to wait until the settings menu (which is one of the first items on the roadmap for a possible future update) is added.

During the public beta, we did some testing on iOS 15 and it seemed to be fine, but it's a certain risk and it significantly increases the amount of testing that has to be done, in a market that already has extremely small margins (sorry 💰)... so I opted for iOS 16.2+ only, sorry!

Is there a way to limit to only devices that can support iOS 16.2 then?

Oh definitely yes, you can set any minimum iOS version freely in Xcode...

That's not what I meant. I meant, can you limit the hardware devices it's compatible with so that, for instance, an Air 2 wouldn't be able to purchase because it isn't compatible?

Ah, gotcha... no, you can't do that, but you can get close enough by limiting the iOS version. It's part of the reason I went with iOS 16.2+ only -- I don't want disgruntled users on very old hardware complaining about frequent crashes because of lack of RAM, for example.

Yes true, but that's just added by iOS automatically and it's iOS-specific. As Meow is a cross-platform app (I'm currently working on the macOS and Windows versions), it would be extra work to add switches and their handling to the iOS Settings app, while only benefitting one single platform. Also, I suspect most users aren't even aware of those app-specific settings in the global settings app.

But I don't want to sound dismissive and I get that it's a valid concern and desirable feature being able to set the theme. It will get added once the in-app general settings menu arrives! 🍻

Yes, but as you're asking, I suspect no other input sources are appearing in the dropdown for you... it's kinda hit-and-miss, some audio interfaces do get detected, some don't. Improving this is on the roadmap for a future update.

(out of curiosity: what interface do you use that's not appearing for selection?)

I’ve found out how to select an external audio interface however it only shows the main stereo in.
    I have multiple audio inputs.
The audio interfaces I use are Behringer UMC1820 and Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 mkii.
I also was on the beta until last night.
    Tester removed.

Thanks for the info! No easy fix for that unfortunately right now.

Yes, the betas have ended -- the macOS beta has shown that a different approach has to be taken to port Meow to the Mac, so I've given up on "Catalyst" and "Designed for iPad" right now. The iOS beta has ended as the app has been released and testing is concluded. Thanks for your help!

Good idea. You’re only just scratching the potential for revenue.

Cat owners IAP - some ideas:
The cat starts meowing for food when you don’t load a file within 60 seconds of starting Meow.
It starts licking its bum when Meow is idle.
Or when pressing “New”: Place current file into the litter box ?
Let Meow start itself at 4am (3am in Summer) and play a random audio file…
Before 4am/3am Meow starts snoring loudly at random intervals.
The moment one “drops audio on cat” you hear a howling and the cat lashes out at you.
And 10% of the proceeds go to Cats Protection…

  • Purchased on sale :)

I don't think I need this, but I skimmed the Jade demo video and saw the auto mix where you can drop files onto it to replace or mix. And I saw the crossfades built in. Good stuff!

Overall looks less fussy than my other audio editors... and, that the dev says he's working on making this totally universal for native macOS use as well, decided to go ahead a grab now. :)

Yes, I"m now having the THIRD attempt at making the Mac version, because both of the technologies Apple offers for "easy" porting of iOS apps ("Catalyst" and "Designed for iPad") are too limited in practice. But progress is great (i.e. it's almost done)!

Haha, I actually had lots of ideas like that, but for now, the dangling bell must suffice! And I think we have to skip the audio ideas. Just imagine someone has connected their iPad to their studio monitors at full bang and the MEOW comes out of nowhere 😬

And 10% of the proceeds go to Cats Protection…

    At least 10%!

Hey, do you mean Meow? There's no IAP in Trinity, you always get the full version.

In Meow, you can test everything except saving for free. The IAP is for the ability to save.

  • edited March 2024

@SevenSystems by the way... I downloaded Meow specifically to buy the sale IAP, but I found it difficult to find where to buy it. It wasn't until I tried to export a quick test edit that I saw that I could buy the IAP.

Seriously, I looked around the app for nearly 10mins trying to find it. I even hit "restore purchases" which it indicated that it did restore my purchase, even though I hadn't actually purchased it yet. As mentioned, it wasn't until I tried to save/export that I got the prompt that it's a free trial and that if I want to export/save, I need to buy the IAP.

Might be good to put an easy to find link to buy the IAP somewhere. Or, maybe there is a buy link for the IAP and I just couldn't find it?

ps. it's perfectly fine the way you have it though... I'm just thinking of users who may be teetering on the fence as to whether to pull the trigger and buy. If they aren't sure they want it AND they get frustrated trying to find it... it might end up being the difference between a followed-thru purchase and an abandoned purchase.

Ahh, ok. Good to know. I only asked because when I looked at appsliced yesterday there was an asterisk next to the price (on Trinity), indicating that there’s an IAP. It’s not there today though, so maybe I’m mistaken.

Now you've confused me enough to actually double-check 😄 but yes, there's no IAP in Trinity but there is in Meow. 👍
