  • Just to be sure. Is it correct that there is no preset manager in the app?

  • @dahliasabin really enjoying the soundscapes I can create. I think that given how much a slight change in a parameter can completely change the sound in this zMf synth, it's really useful to have knobs that are capable of changing small increments with precision.

I find that the knobs are a bit too jumpy to allow for small shifts... Is there a way to look at making the knobs more precise, especially for small changes? I know I'd be able to really get more out of sound design if this were implemented. Having talked to other forum members, I know lots of people enjoy the app but find the knobs to be hard to tweak, especially for these smaller value changes.

    Thanks for your consideration!

  • @NoncompliantBryant @Charlesalbert

Apologies for the delay in my response and app updates! I've had a pretty hectic couple of months. I greatly appreciate the feedback and will be better about monitoring this post 💜

I will soon be releasing an update that includes a new Settings screen, which will allow adjustments to the sensitivity and rotation style of the knobs. The Settings screen will also include assignable MIDI control.

After this release, I will integrate a preset manager into the app and release it as soon as possible.

Thank you so much everyone for the continuous support of the fmQT App 😊✨

  • fmQT synthesizer update v1.3 is now available!

Features a new Settings screen with custom MIDI mapping and knob control customization. Also made improvements to the audio engine and overall performance.

  • Hey, it's nice that you keep building and improving the app. Regarding the midi mapping: I hope you expand it further and beyond just midi-learn. I for one never use that but prefer to add my mappings manually. Plus in e.g AUM it's though(impossible?) to map 3rd party LFOs via midi learn.
    Thanks

Thanks for your feedback, I sincerely appreciate it! Yes I will expand on the Midi Mapping feature in the near future; possibly after the next update which is Preset Management.

I also want to mention that the current Midi Mapping functionality was extensively tested in AUM with 3rd party LFOs and works great.

    Thank you! 😊

Really! Wow, I could do with an instruction for that. I have mLFO and midiLFO and I just don't understand how to use Midi Learn with those as there are no button or slider to address.

Same, I don't think it is possible. @dahliasabin when you say 3rd party lfo do you by any chance mean 3rd party lfo apps loaded in AUM? If so, please share the method for assigning. I tried and can't get it to work.

There are also advantages in using AUM's own system, which is another reason people are pressing for AUv3 parameters to be exposed. It allows you to do things like set min and max points for the cc values and other useful extras. So even if it is possible to use midi learn inside AUM to assign an AUv3 lfo to modulate fmqt, it would still be important to expose the auv3 parameters. Is there a particular reason why the parameters have not been exposed? Thnx for continuing to update and improve things.

Oh wow, you learn something new every day. Usually in AUM this way of routing midi is used for sending note data, like routing a keyboard to a synth. When using LFOs etc the usual way is using the Midi Control section in AUM (the icon looks like some EQ sliders). Anyway, very interesting to learn that this is possible. Exposed AUv3 parameters would still be good to add for reasons I mentioned in the last message, but great to know that this way is at least possible, cheers Dahlia.

My old AUM walkthrough (excuse the poor mic quality), around the 21:15 minute mark, shows the usual way. There are other ways to do this now, but this shows the basics.

Ah, yeah that works but for one CC only and you'll have to disconnect it and connect the next LFO to make another CC number available, and, if you wanna do a few it's not a very smooth way. Thanks for the video anyway.

Some great sounding presets there Dahlia, thanks for the update. But how do you get the preset browser window to close? Tapping again on the main bar at the top with the preset name would seem to be the obvious way, but that is not working. So once I open the preset menu I can’t get back to the main synth view.

Yw! I was in the same boat last night lol

  • Nice to see this getting updated so thought I would check it out. Getting some fun sounds. An INIT patch would be helpful with no sequence etc. (unless I missed it). Also, how do you stop the app sequencer when using an external sequencer?

  • It would be fun to have a parameter randomizer as well for patch starting points.

    Thank you! 😃

On the presets screen, there is a "New" button that will create an INIT patch.

Pressing the Record button will cycle through a few different modes: REC ALL, REC KEYS, REC KNOB, and REC NONE. The last mode will turn off the app's internal sequencer completely.

  • Thank you @dahliasabin I’m getting some really cool tones out of this synth. Great for techno and electro. Nice work.

  • Any tips to using the FM Slew? It seems like a very subtle dial.

Also, how do you stop the EQ points from resetting to zero gain when sequencing the AUv3?

    Thx

  • Hey! I tried msg’ing back in May:

“When the preset manager drops, I’d be interested in creating a bank for fmQT

So far, I’ve got a bank in Qithisizer, NERD Synth, and an upcoming one in Thump One, as well as the banks on my payhip”

And the preset manager is now out, do you have any plans on including artist/sound designer banks? 🙃

  • Bought this for the randomiser coming on the next update. Every synth should have one 😁

There’s a Mozaic script for cc randomization. While not perfect, it helps when a built-in randomizer isn’t available.

Hello, my apologies for the delay! The FM Slew knob automates the FM synthesis automation over a short period of time, as opposed to quickly jumping to the next value (when sequencer is running). A good example is the "Cherry Blossoms" preset; experiment with turning the FM Slew on and off. (Double tap any knob to remove all automation assigned to it).

Thanks for letting me know about the EQ points jumping to zero while dragging it. I will improve this feature in the next update!

In addition to the randomizer, the next update will include significant improvements to the AUv3 app functionality in a host application like AUM, Cubasis, Garageband, etc.

    Thank you friends! ✨

No worries! Tbh just excited to have fresh kit on the platform! And as far as sending, it was mostly just email/messenger. File sizes for the previous banks have all been relatively small. And the process, well kinda different for each. Qithisizer I went out of my way to use every mod available, including all the breath control CC because that app is focused for EWI players. In NERD, I researched the nord series and tried to recreate some of the layered patches as well create many expressive keys. Also, utilizing as much mod as possible. With thump one, I’ve gone out of my way to represent urban genres, as it’s a bit lacking, and edm type presets tend to get the spotlight. In DRC, I made pluck versions of all of the arps and sequences to give the player more flexibility in making their own arps. If you wanna listen to any of them, there are demos on my YouTube: https://youtube.com/@taeodoestech?si=H0r27Ku5WjaKbyk7

So far, I’ve mostly been designing different pattern sequences. Thats my favorite aspect of it! Parameter locking to the sequencer is something that is so under utilized imo. I’m a huge fan of the elektron workflow, and I know we have Drambo, ( and I’m a big fan of that as well!) But as far of ease of use, and also being standalone, this app def fills a void on the platform. I could maybe focus on a genre-specific bank, or an element-specific bank, or ALL pattern sequences lol. Just spitballin’ 🚀
