  • Couple quick things… I’m about to cave on this one…

    1. Ballpark how many patches come with it?
    2. Is there a patch randomizer?
    3. How are people felling about RingzFX now that its been out a week? Something you will use frequently?

I’ve learned something new about Logic too.

    Same! Thanks @Luxthor

Dunno the number, but none of the other Rings ports come with any patches at all, AFAIK. Doug's walkthrough revealed quite a few nice factory patches for this one. That's worth the price alone!

    1. Yes! :-) And also individual randomizers for the step-sequencers in the exciter-section. (Just long-press “clear” to make a random pattern.)

    2. It sounds absolutely wonderful - both as instrument and as fx-processer - and is easy and fun to use. I have used it a lot already, and expect to continue to do so. Feels like I’ve only scraped the surface. Only thing I miss would be the ability to set different lenghts for the individual step-sequencers for even more variation, but it is still a really great app as it is now.

RingZ in Tera Pro has tons of good presets

Has anyone got the sidechain input in Logic to work in the update. I can’t figure out where to enable it?

I don't think sidechain input works in rings, I certainly can't see it.

I wrote earlier that I haven’t used Logic on iPad, but I just found this video by Jamie Mallender, perhaps this can help 🙂
    https://youtu.be/nP_LbDonMqA?si=XMjBSqls7ZVhKjyF

Yeah but the side chain option is not available with RingsFX. It is in many other plugins, so I'm guessing this is something that has to be added by the dev.

Basically in Logic there is no MIDI routing, but there is audio routing. So whereas in AUM you would route the MIDI to wherever you need it, in Logic what you have to do is add plugins to a MIDI channel and route the audio there using the side chain option, this works in many cases, but not here, because in RingsFX the side chain option is not available.

Oh but wasn’t it added in the recent update?

It was according to the release notes, but I'm up to date with the app and the side chain function doesn't appear to be there, at least I'm not seeing it in the usual place in Logic, when RingsFX is loaded as an instrument or an effect on a MIDI channel.

It works for me. Just insert MIDI-controlled Effects.

I thought I knew what you had done here however when I sat down with Logic I realised I was missing a step or two. So you have added RingsFx as a midi controller auv3 instrument and not an effect. I’m unsure how one then uses this to effect an audio file or instrument, presumably on another track. Excuse my ignorance.

Look for the side chain input at the top right and route your audio in (from another track) from there.

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve wanted TPro since release but was concerned about the processing power of my aging iPad. I heard/read Tera Pro can be a little bit on the CPU heavy side, which for most isn’t an issue but for me has unfortunately become a concern. From what I’ve seen it looks and sounds great, especially morphing those Wavetables and the Ringz IAP. when I first heard the Wavetable morphing in a YT video I thought “dam that sounds good.” Unfortunately my iPad is 6 years old, so I decided to put that purchase on the back burner for now. It’s on my list, and one I hope to own in the future.

Thanks. I watched a few videos, and maybe I missed it, but didn’t see anyone use a patch randomizer, so I was curious about that feature. I was also looking to support Paul in his trying time. I have a folder full of his apps, but this one seems unique, sounds great, and as you mentioned, has a relatively simple interface. Cheers.

I did not know that, interesting, it was a euro rack module, correct?
I did watch most of that video, and it seemed like a decent amount. Thanks for the info.

Only instruments or MIDI-controlled FX can receive MIDI note information from the MIDI region. But you also need an audio signal, so you actually need to use a side chain to route the desired audio signal. Also, if your MIDI information for RingsFX is the same as that from the source from which you are receiving the audio signal, use summing stacks.

It's essentially the legal trick, but the only way to do this properly in Logic Pro.

Thanks so much and also @richardyot . All working now!

  • Can someone check whether the exciter Input is working for you when RingsFX is loaded as an effect?

It’s working for me when hosted in Drambo (though the adsr envelope for volume doesn’t seem to do anything unlike in the instrument version of RingsFX)

Hosted in Audio Evolution, AUM and ApeMatrix, the input mode for exciter doesn’t seem to work for me though. When the Output Mix is moved away from -100 i can hear the original signal coming through but at -100, when it’s supposed to be used as the exciter and not itself heard, i hear nothing when MIDI notes are triggered.

Most likely user error on my part - anyone able to check if it’s working for you and let me know what I’m missing? Cheers.

I encountered this too at first, knowing too, it must be me 😝
Too stubborn to ask for help, a day later I realized notes need to be held.
Drambo for me to btw . So just play or draw in a note or chord in the step sequencer.

Thanks @Blipsford_Baubie. Well, I’ve got it working in Audio Evolution and AUM (haven’t tried ApeMatrix again yet but pretty sure it’ll be fine) now thanks to your advice, cheers. The key seems to be that MIDI needs to be sent to both the instrument providing the exciter input source and the RingsFX plug-in loaded as an effect.

The ADSR option doesn’t seem to be working in any host though when loaded as an effect and using the exciter input? It works for RingsFX loaded as an instrument.

Thanks again for your help, really appreciate it. Cheers.
