Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) is coming to iOS

Call me excited :)

https://www.facebook.com/groups/neuralampmodeler/permalink/7118716041510491/?app=fbl

It’s a free/open source guitar amp (effects) modeling/profiling software. Pretty much like Tonex or Kemper. Only available on desktop so far.

On the Tonehunt website you can get many profiles and IRs for it.

Definitely worth checking out!

Anybody here using this and excited for it too?

Oh that is really good news. Can you post what that FB link says? I can’t view it.

I used it on Windows 2-3 years ago. Can't talk about latest versions but I moved from NAM to Tonex mainly because of high CPU usage and poor preset (IR) management. If you already have Tonex I see no reason to install NAM. Btw it is IMO the same rabbit hole maybe even deeper.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • I have it on desktop, in Reason. I miss my iOS options when using desktop so I'm not sure this will do anything for me on iOS. But, it's good to have options, especially free ones.

  • Nice. I’m excited to be able to have the option on iOS for 48k profiles. I still think GuitarML gets better results for outboard gear but the 44.1k wall for it is a bummer

Do you notice issues running guitarml profiles in BYOD at 48k? I haven’t noticed any artifacts.

I’ve looked and looked but haven’t really noticed anything. It does introduce a drop off in the sub range but that’s at any sample rate and a known bug. I’d like to be able to actually record and create the profiles at 48k solely for convenience but I haven’t noticed any weird errors caused by using it in 48k

  • I think NAM is capable of 48k and higher now

  • This comparison is quite interesting:

And these tones very lovely IMO:

Btw free Tonocracy on desktop is based on NAM but has a better GUI and more pre installed amp settings.

I‘m using it at home and get a sweet Fender amp tone with it.

If you ever happened to have Wall of Sound from Two sound (I got it for free with a Korg midi controller I think) you get the upgrade to genome. I’ve made the switch to that because it really is superior to everything available with a lot of options. You might check if you ever had that cos I’d honestly buy it if I hadn’t got it for free

  • Plus one for Genome. But Tonocracy is a better deal for free. They both sound great, and more importantly feel like amps. Also AIDA-X , its great sounding and feeling plugin and is the one that most responds (IMO) to my playing like an actual amp.

This is an IOS forum tho, so I am excited for NAM coming to iOS.

Thanks guys for chiming in! Genome looks very cool! I’ll check it out.
Not sure what to think of the AIDA-X GUI and colours 😄 but will check it out too.
Knowing that NAM is coming to iPad definitely makes that my first choice for now. So I can tweak it at home and take it with me to wherever I want to play on my iPad. I guess the other two sims have no ambition to come to iPad..?

I'm running it at 96khz on my iPhone within AUM. No issues at all.

  • Same here Guitar ML is very good as well. BYOD

  • Did I miss anything? May I ask what Guitar ML is?

It's another form of profiling. Stands for Guitar Machine Learning. BYOD includes a module that can load GuitarML profiles. See

If you search the forum, you will instructions on how to load guitarml profiles in BYOD and where to find a nice library of profiles.

  • Any new news on NAM and ios? Testflight?

My sense is that it is going to be a while yet before it is in beta

  • Hi friends,
    Greetings from Turkey🤘🏻
We have devoleped GigFast, a mac/iOS compatible app / auV3 plugin with our parametric models and also has ability to load NAM profiles.

We have limited number of test slots available, so first come first served 🥰

Here is the test flight link:

This is what the dev wrote 2 days ago. It seems to be lots of work. I have a feeling that it's not long anymore though.

See the post directly above, too. GigfastLite also loads NAM profiles.

  • Gigfast Lite sounds really good to my battered ears. I keep all my NAM profiles and cab IRs in iCloud so its easy to test things on Mac or iPad. I am impressed.

Thanks a lot, we are glad that you like what you have experienced so far.

  • Well worth the testing time. Some profile that sounded like a** in the NAM macos plugin sound great in Gigfast lite and all my goto favorite NAM profiles sound awesome and respond to my playing and pick attack like my real amps do.

There are some great cleans and edge of breakup tones in the stock amps in there too. Would like more control over reverb size.

Running high cpu complex NAM captures on M2 ipad pro, it doesn't even get above 20-30 % CPU, even with several other apps in the chain. Nice.

    What profiles do you recommend?

  • Any of the Slammin Mofo Captures, Tone King Imperial Mk III V2 for Cleans, there is a recent Fender HRD 3 2015 — all on Tonehunt.

But even better: some of the Cleans and Edge of breakup tones that arealready included in the Gigfast stock amps—those themselves are incremental NAM captures, so you as turn the knobs the nam capture is changing. I think. All I know is they sound great.

The attached Plexi is a NAM capture I really like, for crunch, but I forget where I got it. Possibly FB.

    Hi guys,

We've released a new beta build (v1.0 build 9) for GigFast Lite! You can download it from the TestFlight app on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

First things first: This build includes MAJOR performance improvements! We've drastically reduced CPU usage by optimizing the NAM and other effects for iOS/macOS, taking advantage of multi-core processing and some Apple juice.

As you know, we're using our own parametric NAM models (captured with multiple amp knobs) for GigFast Amps. In this build, we've seen more than a 50% reduction in CPU usage even with our heavy parametric NAM models compared to previous builds.

These performance improvements should fix most of the crash issues, especially on lower-end devices.

This build also fixes the issues with importing NAM and IR files from third-party cloud providers like Google Drive and fixes some edge-case UI problems.

If you haven't tried GigFast Lite yet, you can get the current beta version from the link below:
