Then who? Why would he mention a Paul if it’s just a random Paul not known in the space?

    Probably this Paul https://www.elf-audio.com/about.php

Interesting… Just was about to say, “ if only we could get some of Blocs Wave/Launchpad’s functionality in Koala”
    The Key/Scale option in particular…. Ohhhh…

    PAUL CHANA
    SVP Software Engineering

Having spent over a decade at Fxpansion building technology at the birth of the plugin industry, I moved over to Roli and helped in the launching of the blocs and seaboards. After that I moved to Ampify / Novation / Focusrite where I built large scale web backed audio applications and then lead their development teams across multiple hardware and software platforms as the technical lead. Now ive gone back to my roots building music tech fast with Marek at Elf-Audio.

Edit.. Sample Packs would be great too..

I’m actually glad it isn’t the other guy those apps don’t click with me but koala does!

  • Hey this is exciting news. Koala is my main app.

  • I’m sure new Paul will do great things but never forget @4pockets_paul is the OG and the GOAT on iOS ✊

  • Well, maybe now we will finally have full-fledged volume, pitch and filter envelopes)))

  • Maybe now the pad numbering order between portrait and landscape will finally be acknowledged and fixed! 🤣

  • I love Koala as is…anything new from the team should be a great thing too…so yep can’t wait

  • Crossing my fingers for some kind of automation... 🤞🏽

  • I think there will be some graphics thing... like palette swap or animated gif backgrounds, seems that people like that stuff.

Then the big one, I dunno, I know what I would like which is a granular engine, but I think it will be more sequencing stuff somehow.

Envelopes or Moar LFOs would be excellent.

People on this forum might guess that Paul is 4pockets Paul, but that would not be common knowledge.

Marek is talking about his Elf Audio team mate Paul:

This is wild! I wonder if this will also bring midi control like the SP 404 has. Either way this is huge news

I'm feeling mixed about this news. I just decided not to get a P-6 because of the extensive menu diving. I think this will be very nice for P-6 users, though.

Edit: nevermind, I'm all in. I use Koala a lot, I'll have the P-6 sometime in November, hopefully.
Now I am really looking forward to this Koala update!

@elf_audio adding the ability to sample instruments within Koala or even to host instruments within Koala would be baller, but Koala Sampler is stable as it is. Sometimes (oftentimes?) once a host adds AUv3 hosting capabilities to an app, the app becomes unstable/prone to crashing. Except for BlipInteractive with NS2. That app is supernaturally stable without crashing. I'm sure Marek and his beta testing team would deliver the same prestine quality with Koala.

That said, a song mode would be a game changier we need in Koala, and I suspect that's what's next in the pipeline. I'd pay for that IAP for sure. Fingers crossed.

Honestly, I hope that he doesn't add a ton more features and keeps it super rock hard stable because I plan on using it for live performances and part of the reason I can do that is because I know it won't crash on me and destroy my set.

It's fake - not really sure why that user decided to post it

Oh reallly!? That’s a really weird thing to lie about

I agree with that. That was the original point. :) I prefer Koala as-is, and Marek and team did add some sort of song mode to Koala since I posted that. There's nothing really else I could possibly want in Koala, but we'll see what the future holds.

Also, welcome to the forum. :)

I hope it's not fake news since I just bought a P-6 based on the Koala integration. haha
I'm sure I'll enjoy the P-6 regardless, but I'd rather use Koala on iPad than Roland Cloud Manager on laptop to load and edit samples. I really don't want to install that Roland cloud stuff on my Macbook.

Also, I agree with others who don't want to see Koala get complicated, I like Koala very much as is.

You don’t need the Mac/PC software to load samples - it all works easily from the files app on iPhone or iPad.

That said, with midi sync on sample, and the ability to define how many bars, it’s super easy to sample over USB from many apps on iPhone and iPad… it even supports start/stop transport controls.

Saving samples is a pain though…

That's good news about loading samples from the files app, that's perfect.
Is it more complicated to save samples loaded from the files app than it is to save samples recorded directly on the machine?

It’s all the same - you save samples in zip files per bank. You have to start the machine with the bank number held down - and restart after each bank saved.

    Well that's a novel approach.
    Roland be Rolanding.

    Yes, that’s why I’m hoping the P-6 Koala post really isn’t fake news… 🤞🤞🙏🙏

  • Random idea: Long pressing knobs, buttons & sliders to input numeric value.
Sometimes the knobs & sliders get tricky when I try to dial in an exact number

  • For those who have desktops/laptops
You can sample what you hear directly into Koala Sampler desktop version using Blackhole.

    Here's the link for Blackhole.

    https://existential.audio/blackhole/

Basically sample into Koala Desktop/laptop version and export the Koala file over to your idevice.

    Yeh, that works great.
Something I didn't know earlier is you can get also MIDI from DAWs into Koala Desktop by enabling the iAC Driver in MacOS Audio Midi setup.
