Buzz zone is a boutique 'performance-oriented polyphonic synth with a rich set of features, cutting edge DSP and a streamlined modern interface, a hybrid of warm analog modelling and state of the art digital processing with a focused feature set for endless inspiration and experimentation

Features include:

• 9 Powerful multi segment envelopes, one for each of the 9 main controls, with an intuitive 'auto curve' function
• Streamlined yet versatile intertace with all controls on a single screen
• Deep analog modelling based on the cream of Eurorack modules and legendary vintage synths
• State of the art DSP, with the latest ADAA anti aliasing techniques for rich analog sounds without digital artefacts, even when pushed into extreme territories.
• Creative routing, unusual filters plus FM, AM, ring modulation and wave folding to creating harmonically rich analog timbres ideal for modern sound design
• Extensive library of meticulously crafted wavetables
• Vocoder mode allows you to imprint tonal characteristics of the loaded samples on to the output of the Synth engine

The synthesiser features two powerful engines that can be layered together for a variety of complex sounds and textures. The 'Synth' engine features a great sounding 'wavetable' oscillator with a unison function for buzzy, harmonically rich timbres, hence the name! • Well shiet! Was this expected? I know Thump One is great, this probably is too. Do I need another synth tho? No but yes ( ಠ ͜ʖಠ)

  • Anyone seen and YouTube vids yet? Not managed to find one myself and always like to hear a synth first.

  • This is great - 35-min spoken walkthrough vid is just starting on my YouTube now - maybe see some of you in the live chat!

  • It’s a great and interesting synth with lots of options and filters to choose from.

Yes, sound quality seems excellent too. Would love to hear what @dendy makes of the filters as he is so fussy about filter sounds!

Fantastic synth.. was in beta but unfortunately because of huge workload haven’t had enough time to play with it - anyway finally after VERY long time again iOS synths which makes me very excited .. great great sound and very interesting architecture and possibilities …

Second great synth from @Freeco - this dev starts to be really one of my favourite iOS devs :-)

    5/5 Approved by Dendy

  • I can join the praise - really great and original synth! You can do so much fun stuff with those looping envelopes!

It's official then! Yes, I am no hardware guy but these filters sound a cut above to me. Such variety too. Overall just a hugely impressive sound from this thing

Yes, kind of surprised there weren't more presets in the loop category, those are the most fun for me, I reckon, going to sit down and make some now actually

  • A good and interesting Synth. I just need to be able to select midi channels and presets with midi in stand alone.

I have to say, I really like that interface. Good use of the format. But the developer (David Alexander) really should put at least one video on the App Store demonstrating his synths. A video is the best free advertising one has available on the App Store and everyone selling an app there should attempt to demonstrate their app to its potential.

  • I love the simplicity of his apps you can just dive in and start making your own presets.

  • Do kind of wish that the tweaking knobs (lower row) had msegs too, not just the main controls

it's literally one of best sounding iOS synths to the date ..

He was active also here on forum, @Freeco

  • I wish the dev made it available on iPhone too.

  • You can also import your own samples, pretty fun.

Oh yes great idea! We are working on some 'deep dive' videos, so a short edit could be added to the app store for sure! :)

Thanks!!! We worked hard on it!

MIDI program change is planned, for this and Thump One...

  • Can we get another colour please, or several choices, It's to bright for the old eyes.

Yeah i subscribe to this, dark colour scheme would be excellent

Yes we are planning to add a 'High Contrast' option for anyone that needs to make the text more readable

Darker color choices would be real nice. Love the sounds coming out of this so far!

  • Does this need a fast device?

  • edited May 22

@Freeco The looper increase and decrease slider finger drag I still find a bit fidgety at times to change the amount. It’s impossible to read the numbers so a dark colour scheme option with larger numbers would be welcome.

  • Does the iPad version support 'snap to grid' (I saw this mentioned in the manual) when editing the mseg envelopes?
(Hopefully an external keyboard is NOT required for this feature as I mostly use my iPad as a stand-alone device).

  • It doesn’t seem to actually have a modulation bus… Sooo… how can it be a performance oriented synth if I can’t actually have something like a mod wheel control parameters? None of what I’ve seen in vids indicate it’s available.

    exact opposite

Too bad that the 'snap to grid' functionality currently requires mandatory use of keyboard modifiers.
Hopefully we'll someday we may see check boxes to enable X and Y grid with our having to use an external keyboard, I mean the iPad is after all a 'Touch First' device...

Ok, that’s cool. Can you have more than one destination and amount per?

Mainly trying to find an easier to use synth than my current fav Factory. I love it, but don’t always feel like plunging into its depths when I just want a quick, controllable weird noise…

I really wish more synths would use the “morph” paradigm like factory than a “modulation” paradigm.

I covered this in my YT walkthrough btw - some of the sources can have 2 destinations, some only one. I suggested to the dev that a matrix would be good, so you could assign destinations much more freely, something similar to the way it is done in Imaginando apps like FRMS.
