Here’s my entry. It’s 2 king keys and 5 subscription synths, done in Drambo with loads of Drambo FX and modulation.

This is excellent! :) I really love what you did here. I agree, belongs in a Zelda level or some sort of videogame, like in a cold damp cave level.

Hi y’all, I used 4 King Key instances, 2 SUBscription ones, with two dustbins effects on the SUBscription instances, and sequenced by LK, hosted in AUM.

    Strangly hypnotic :)

Thank you man! I added two more SUBscription instances because I felt like it needed some hummfff so here is version 2:

It’s clearly not mixed well, or at all, so I don’t think it plays well with anything other than the iPhone speakers lol.. anyways, I also changed the order of the patterns a little bit to keep it short.

Cool, no need to keep it short, I would have liked to here more of the melodic part :)

Very soundtrackish, I imagine a scene in which gnomes work in a factory completing a doomsday-device with perfect choreography. I like it.

I can see that. I liked it too.

What fun apps these freebies are turning out to be. Thanks for making the video to display your
    approach.

3x SUBscription Synth (bass, lead, and high sustained note)
3x King Key (one for the "kick", one for the typewriter sounds, and one for the "hats" (computer clicks))

I also used Beef on the "drums" and Flux Mini 2.

Only internal plugins of NS2 I used are compressor, algoverb, and EQ.

On the Master I used Grand Finale 2 and Youlean's Loudness Meter to ensure my levels are juuuust right.

Good one! Thanks for pushing this monthly freebie creative festival too.

This is like a dark carnival take of The Magic Roundabout. Love it.

Oops I wrote a miserable dirge that belongs more to a funeral for someone you disliked than for International Joke Day lol

Nice to see how you arranged this. You got some nice sounds out of the apps.

I like the swagger of this one even though I agree it needs further mixing. Nice one!

Really nice soundstage in this one! Very cool.

  • Here’s my grungy electro effort. Unmixed and overdriven in AUM so don’t mind the clipping, I got a little carried away. I found the kick the biggest challenge from King Key. I had to layer two to get in the ball park. Fun idea and respect to @CaelumAudio for giving us these awesome apps and a bit of light relief.

Do you all use King Key for your kicks? Or did you create them in Subscription? I felt it needed a transient shaper as well but AUM didn’t have one built in.

I look forward to listening to yours later when the house has woken up. As for drums, I spent quite a bit of time in one of the other challenges with kicks, that I simply took one of the kits in King Key this time. I simple played random chords through an arp until I got something I liked, so what I got was completely accidental for the most part. 3 of my sounds in SUBscription are just tweaked init sounds with fx doing much of the heavy lifting. SUBscription does have some interesting sounds though.

Caelum Audio does make some fun apps for sure.

This was amazing! I'm surprised I wasn't subbed to you yet. :) I love grungy electro.

Cheers dude. To be fair there’s nothing to sub to 😆

You’re mixing is tight. I need to take some notes.

  • Hey @jwmmakerofmusic great idea
    Thought I’d have a quick jam…

  • Dirge 2

Very rough and knocked out in an hour. I seriously need something uptempo and mixed nicely lol

Groovy.....yeah I just used the sixties word lol. I was dancing along while shaving...

I could edit the original post, but I find it more fun to sift through and see comments as well. That's just me personally.

Thanks mate. :) It's all part of the fun is seeing the nice comments towards one another. A fun way to build our sense of community here.

(I know I've been a jerk lately elsewhere in this forum. I'm trying to correct that by more positive posting.)

  • I was going to skip this one, but then again…

This is not my usual kind of stuff, but I find these apps less suitable for that kind of thing, great as they are.

Anyway, hastily knocked together today, this is about the sixth take, as I kept messing up the pattern changes (performed manually, “live”). It’s about as good as it’s going to get :-)

Three instances of SUBscription and one of King Keys sequenced by Poly 2, plus another King Keys doing the kick, sequenced by Rozeta XOX. A couple of Dustbins and a Choric in there, plus a Blindfold EQ on the output bus (which is as close to mastering as it’s likely to get!).

Heaven knows what genre this is: have fun trying to figure it out, if that’s your thing!

I’d better have a listen to the other submissions now - I’ve been deliberately avoiding doing that until I’d finished my piece.

  • @McD - definitely a hint of psychopath lurking in there.

@Fruitbat1919 - Dirge 1: I like the sparse, doomy feel. Dirge 2: I like this one better, seems more complete somehow.

@magnusovi - more doom: I like it. Version two seems to lighten it up a little, though not too much.

@jwmmakerofmusic - that sub bass is great. And yet more doom!

@tyslothrop1 - like the trippy dub feel of this. Melancholic (he says, trying not to use “doom” again).

@gusgranite - great sounds you’ve squeezed out of these apps. Verging on psychotic in places.

@id_23 - I’m hiding behind the sofa, now.

I find it interesting that, considering the joke nature of the apps, there’s a general feel of doom/dislocation/paranoia/sadness. Or maybe that’s just my current mood (I’ve been ill the last few days).

  • Thanks everyone for the nice comments:)

@Fruitbat1919 I like your second version. I kind of get x-files vibes.

@gusgranite cool mix between filthy and chrystal-clear elements. Driving.

@id_23 great sounds, otherworldly like out of a really old sci-fi movie.

@bygjohn the most cheerful track, so far I think. Poly 2 looks like a lot of fun.

Yep that’s a little more up beat lol must look into Poly 2, I know I have the demo version somewhere!
