  • Really good stuff you guys!

Interesting “challenge”, so we can use Subscription Synth, King Keys, and any of Caelum Audio’s effect plugins, so that includes Flux Pro right? Just those alone open up a huge range of possibilities.

Here’s my entry. It’s 2 king keys and 5 subscription synths, done in Drambo with loads of Drambo FX and modulation.

Nice! Glad to see (hear) Drambo being used.

Hey, what did you use for that artwork? I really like that!

I missed this one somehow! Possibly might be good if we could possibly collect them all onto one page. Not sure how that can be done though.

Thanks, I used scribblediffusion.com. You can have a sketch and a text prompt at the same time and I find it fun to keep the sketch and change the text, spend a couple of evenings doing that some time ago and this is just one random picture from that.

  • These are all great! Such a great mix of creativity!
Thanks to all hiding behind the sofa!
    Here is the next episode…
    Fugue Machine for midi,
    It’s a bit gnarly in places !
    Enjoy carefully!

  • Got it uploaded…

8 instances of King Key in dRambo. All internal FX apart from 2 instances of Blindfold EQ.

  • @Mountain_Hamlet good grooves, tipped the scale slightly to the not quite so doomy side for this thread for me ;)

Ha. Thanks @tyslothrop1. I liked your piece too. It has a great atmosphere and I liked the melodic component. I noticed the regular reference to doom in this thread, but I don’t quite see it. Maybe that’s the joke.

This is a great way to lead off the challenge. It took me to the Penguin in Batman. Under the city with all his penguins.

Oops I wrote a miserable dirge that belongs more to a funeral for someone you disliked than for International Joke Day lol

Cool track. Maybe it’s something for a funeral for a robot? Little gloomy, but I can see the potential joke in there.

    Dirge2 could be the wake…

Hi y’all, I used 4 King Key instances, 2 SUBscription ones, with two dustbins effects on the SUBscription instances, and sequenced by LK, hosted in AUM.

I had a job in a mailroom once operating the sorting machine and this wouldn’t go astray in that atmosphere at all. Especially in the middle of the night. I liked the second version too.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic said:

3x SUBscription Synth (bass, lead, and high sustained note)
3x King Key (one for the "kick", one for the typewriter sounds, and one for the "hats" (computer clicks))

I also used Beef on the "drums" and Flux Mini 2.

Only internal plugins of NS2 I used are compressor, algoverb, and EQ.

On the Master I used Grand Finale 2 and Youlean's Loudness Meter to ensure my levels are juuuust right.

A nice one from the starter of this thread. I especially liked the transition point where it lifts starting at 1:30 and brings in the melody. The song transitioned into one of hope and promise from a slightly darker start.

Here’s my grungy electro effort. Unmixed and overdriven in AUM so don’t mind the clipping, I got a little carried away. I found the kick the biggest challenge from King Key. I had to layer two to get in the ball park. Fun idea and respect to @CaelumAudio for giving us these awesome apps and a bit of light relief.

I liked the driving feel of this and the melodic elements were really well crafted. As for the kick - well, mine wasn’t really a punchy one and it actually became more of the bass line as I explored the sounds available to me.

Nice piece of atmosphere. really nice. I liked the filter work.

I was going to skip this one, but then again…

This is not my usual kind of stuff, but I find these apps less suitable for that kind of thing, great as they are.

Anyway, hastily knocked together today, this is about the sixth take, as I kept messing up the pattern changes (performed manually, “live”). It’s about as good as it’s going to get :-)

Three instances of SUBscription and one of King Keys sequenced by Poly 2, plus another King Keys doing the kick, sequenced by Rozeta XOX. A couple of Dustbins and a Choric in there, plus a Blindfold EQ on the output bus (which is as close to mastering as it’s likely to get!).

Heaven knows what genre this is: have fun trying to figure it out, if that’s your thing!

I’d better have a listen to the other submissions now - I’ve been deliberately avoiding doing that until I’d finished my piece.

I like the bouncy feel of this. I like the steel drum sound you got going. I need to sit down with patterning 2 again at some point.

Cool . Quite catchy and the detuned lead sound really stands out.

I really like this one. I’m particularly enamoured of the boingy spring sound, which (being of a certain age and in the UK) immediately conjures up Zebedee in the Magic Roundabout!

Thanks! Hadn’t played with Poly 2 for a long time. It’s such a great app. Here I’m using just to output MIDI, but you can load samples into it, too.

cool. I was thinking about what your track reminded me of. It’s very similar in vibe to a few Ministry Of Sound Ibiza chill out tracks from the 90s that swim around in the recesses of my consciousness. Nice.

Blue string soup, now you’re talking!

    - tries to figure out how to represent a Clanger talking in text -

    - fails -

    🤣🤣🤣🤣

Edit: hang on, it was blue string pudding wasn’t it?

  • Had to start from near scratch cos flux crashed wiping things. I don’t know what’s happened to the mix in the upload. The kicks hit harder, might be logics annoying plug-in freezing uselessness. Anyway, due to family illness it is what it is. https://on.soundcloud.com/UnDtVZ2RHHEgJBaS6

Like it. I was transported to an alien factory somewhere. Wish your family the best.

I must’ve been confused by the primordial mushrooms!

  • Here is another submission, if that’s possible. I like this one a little more than the other one. I also tried to make it less doomy/gloomy.

Also, thank you to anyone who listened to my melodies and commented!

I hope the volume is not too bad… I did this at work with the sound very low on my iPhone speakers…
