I dont get these type of posts. all you end up getting is a list of every single synth app made. Its like asking what "best" there is no best.

Was just trying to make conversation 😞

If you don't like it, then sod off elsewhere. We don't need your type of attitude problem here.

Edit: Ironic how you agreed with Gav a few months ago about worsening attitudes, and yet here you are nitpicking about a thread meant to spark a conversation.

Now you don't want to appear as a hypocrite, do you?

You get to see the reasons people like certain synths, which I suppose is the real value of such a thread.

Exactly. I like to read about others' perspectives on their favourite synths and sometimes not-so-favourite synths.

  • Anyway I don’t always understand how discussions get out of hand on this. But I thought I should give a shout out to Poison 202. Maybe because I used to make sounds on a Roland SH 201but this app is brilliant for creating patches super easily.

  • Okay, now I see why this thread in fact exists, I’ll add the reason why I nominated the synth I did (ButterSynth).

Basically, it’s insanely capable, what with its list of synthesis modes and of parameters in each, it offers a heckton of modulation possibilities, and all the while, its interface remains quite clean and practical.

In other words, the perfect balance but with barely any compromises, as far as I’m concerned.

Definitely a great one! I actually normally find it harder to make a good patch with VA synths vs FM (not as far as difficulty but creatively) but that is a definite exception .

I really like Twin2 in Auria Pro,

My reason for Twin2…great sounding oscillators, infinite LFOs/envelopes/etc., and the filter is fab :)

I just bought Bleass Megalit to replace SM1&2 as it was a newer Wavetable synth and on sale :) It sounds really nice. No ringing and the filter has a warm tone to it. Good modulation options…not unlimited like Twin2, but also Twin2 is not a Wavetable synth. Recommend!

  • Pure Acid / Troublemaker.
for anything more complicated i prefer using presets.

I think my favorite is Addstation from Virsyn. Advanced additive synthesis meets wavesequencing. I have no idea what I’m doing, but the results are always interesting.

(And I love threads like this!)

How is twin 2 for generative stuff like Krell?

Perfect reply from a pro like you,,,,,,,all I did was post my opinion on a thread and you tell me to sod off, lmao. Pot calling the kettle black me thinks. Nobody has to like or dislike a thread or comment. You certainly didnt help me understand why, but others did and I thank them.

Months ago you lamented "worsening attitudes in the forum" on @Gavinski 's thread, and yet you made some snide snarky comment here making my friend @Fear2Stop feel bad about making the thread in the first place. You're obviously a part of the problem in this forum that Gavinski was talking about, and I'm here to correct and equalise it. So yeah, bugger off, little man. Go to KVR and GearSpace where people like you belong and leave this forum in peace.

Pull your head out of your ass, your white knighting is boring. Im not sure how saying " i dont understand,,,,," is snide or snarky but whatever, you're the man, the big boss. Im done

Megalit is incredibly fun to make patches with! And yeah it does sound very warm.

There’s something special about how BLEASS’s ease of use allows one to make patches but also learn synthesis. I learned FM due to Omega… the color coding just made everything “snap” for me

I agree 100% with this. Bleass' UIs are very user friendly.

  • Rings into Clouds still a favorite of mine even though it’s not really a synth. You can get some beautiful synth sounds out of it.
Yes it’s been beaten to death.. haha

  • Here are mine:

    NoInputMixer
    Ivcs3
    Shoom
    Ripplemaker

And VApolywest is definitely my favourite at the moment.

it was wolfsburg for interesting pads and leads, so im glad i can use it now as an auv3

it just sounds great, when you modulate the pitch a tiny bit and the mod matrix is very simple but very clear

just tried it in drambo and it still has the magic

the other one was borderlands for me. i did some live perfomances where bl was involved and used it for sound design in other projects

iSEM also still holds strong, great sound. good interface

today, im new again to the scene, after a long hiatus. i still have my ipad mini 2, but got me a ipad pro 4th gen. and stuff is different. more power…

synths i got that have the potential to become my next fav are:

    buttersynth
    id700
    electribe wave

im thinking about adding a bleass synth but cant decide

  • I’m thick so I prefer simpler synths with easy to use interfaces so TAL-UNO-X and Zeeon for me.
Zeeon actually sounds like a real analogue to me. I would buy a hardware version of that synth.

  • decided against bleass synths and got hilda
    cause noir is great

  • .Branches quite nice.

  • I haven’t dived into any new synth since 2022, so I’ll list my current favorites.

    1. Europa from Reason Compact. Still love the sounds I can produce and design on it. It’s quick, intuitive, and I have fun each time I work with it.
    2. Nanostudio 2 Obsidian as it’s the easiest one I’m able to design sounds on.
    3. Synthmaster 1 or 2 because of its insane collection of synthesized presets than I’ll need.
    4. Drambo because it allows experimentation. Combine racks together.
    5. Gadget 3/Pure Synth Platinum as an all-in-one bundle.

I’ve heard great things about butter synth, and how it’s similar to Serum. Haven’t tried it yet.

  • My fav 2 synths to make sounds with are Viking Synth (something about this monosynth is just perfect) and Laplace (has a kind of sound quality that I just can't find elsewhere)

  • This thread is making me want to spend money. I like how you can kind of guess what genres people work in by their choices. I wish I could just watch people create presets on some of these. I often get creative block once I learn how a new synth works. Blank Page Syndrome. I find it best to reach for one when I want a specific sound. For me in that situation it's usually Zeeon, Nambu, or Mersenne. Honorable mentions to Hilda, Phasemaker, and Rings.

I bet you can't guess I work mostly in EDM genres (Trance being my current favourite to produce), lol. I also branch out into TripHop, Lofi, and I think I may produce an Ambient piece soon as it's been a while.

I mentioned Monolit, but all Bleass synths for me are quite easy to grok. I also love to use Pure Synth Platinum 2, Korg Module, Beathawk, XinematiX, and other romplers. Not exactly instruments you have full sound design control over, but when I need "real world" sounds, I reach for one of those. These are what I normally load into AUM to sample oneshots into Koala Sampler when I'm using Koala as my main creative environment. Same for when I want to sample oneshots for DWSampler in FL Studio Mobile.

That all being said, my bread-and-butter synth will always be Obsidian whenever I use Nanostudio 2. Sometimes I get creative block in NS2, but I would prefer to stick with NS2 than any other environment. Obsidian is so easy to wrap my head around.

I do all of this on my iPhone since it's a 14 Pro Max with 1TB space. Hopefully Apple will release an iPad Mini 7/iPad Mini Pro with at least 512gb space so I can have a slightly larger screen to work in without it being obnoxiously to use (I prefer a smaller screen size), and so I can use Twin 3, Synthmaster 3 (whenever that comes to iOS), and other iPad-only synths as well as my aforementioned synths and romplers.

Okay, back to my music creation dungeon I go. :)

  • Since I make most of my finished stuff in Gadget, basically all of the gadgets and iap synths. The sounds can be easily layered if necessary and the synths are all fairly old school and straight forward. I use a third party xy pad to drive midi sometimes on filters.

I don’t make too much externally for songs in gadget, since it’s a pita to connect.

I usually get a kick out of messing around with Koala strictly for sound design.
TAL-UNO-X is great for to-the-point sounds for using with midi craziness in AUM or similar.

Aside from that, maybe twin 3, since the presets can be reused on desktop and it’s cool looking while also being approachable. On desktop, Harmor and phaseplant for getting in depth. I’m also learning about all the cool things that can be done natively in bitwig. It’s really wild.

While I love factory and aparillo, i just don’t use them that much, because they’re a bit weird and I forget the details after a while. I’ll probably start using serum more, since the constraints foster creativity.

    Tl:dr
    Gadget and iap synths.
