On my air, the mute switch controls "Ringer" while the volume controls control "Volume." They are separate levels. Maybe I don't even know what the hell that switch does. I only know I hit it when my wife tells me to turn down and it works for that. But how odd that one of the new devices has it and the other doesn't.
mini still has the a7. Weird. And the old camera.

Ahh! Makes sense now!
Are they available as of now?
The new iPads, that is...
Ordering space grey 64gb tomorrow. Not opening until 2GB ram is 100% confirmed. Going right back to store if still 1GB no question about it.
For mac mini do you need a mac monitor or you can use any monitor?
I believe you can use any monitor (unless something changed on the new one)...

You'll need to open it to check the ram :P
Do you have a flat head screwdriver?

Product marketing 101: you always target the middle, then add a lower tier so the customer feels they are getting added value above that, and add a higher tier so they perceive they are making a more economical decision. You are always meant to buy the middle.
In this case Apple didn't keep the low end 16 GB to save a few pennies, they did it to push you to the middle where they want you to be (making $100 more on the sale).
Lol I'll leave that to the tear down pros.
You can use any monitor but you're likely to run into resolution issues

How can you be so sure about the shorter battery life? The pads were always arround ten hours, even with a little more going on.The same as their presentations, that were never more than showing some browsing and taking pictures...or wait,he showed all the new photo/video stuff,i can imagine some of this functions are quite cpu/gpu hungry but i'm sure if they show this stuff AND say"10 hours battery",it will be close to that.As it always was.
The Mac mini has an HDMI out so you can connect it to an HD TV to use as a monitor.
Or, maybe they're partially subsidizing the $100 drop on the 128 via the increased profit margins on the 16. For the, what, 75%? of ipad purchasers who use it as a Netflix+Safari device, 16 is plenty. There's no good reason for Apple to lose money on them. They make nice stuff but they're a corporation selling products to make profits.

Not sure what you mean by this; I use my Mac Mini to drive a 1920 x1200 Dell monitor as well as a 1920 x1080 HDTV, and I've never had an issue.
The Mini 3 thing is entirely weird. Am I reading this wrong or does http://www.apple.com/ipad/compare/#comparison-chart basically say 'Pay us an extra 100 dollars for touch ID'? Am I missing something?
I think the 3 in the name says it all. An actual new mini will surface in 4 months.
I think I'll get another good year or so use out of my original iPad Air before I need to upgrade.

I just need to look at the battery life on CPU heavy applications, going from iPad 1 up to the Air 1. Air 2 is even thinner, and have a more battery hungry CPU (and GPU). 10 hrs were always for basic stuff.
I prefer to wait for real world comparisons
@syrupcore said:
Maybe it got better front camera too? Air and Air 2 appear to have same front camera on that comparison but they are upgraded. Whoopty doo.
That's what I've been looking at. Unless Apple really used some magic, it WILL have a shorter battery span when utilizing the CPU. But I'm also hoping for some Apple magic!
I'm holding out for more rumors of the pro. Perhaps by then the iOS 8 "pains" will have been ironed out and I'll feel more confident about the iPad as my main/primary music platform.
For now, my iPad 4 will continue to feed my laptop with sounds (and vice versa).
Check the comparison chart, it lists the cameras too I believe.

Omniture (Adobe Analytics)
Looks like Gizmodo noticed the same: http://gizmodo.com/the-ipad-mini-just-got-touch-id-1647115231

Wait I got it... $100 for Touch ID and the option to get Gold and be exclusive.
Edit: crap they pointed that out too.

ah, right. I keep forgetting that Adobe acquired them.
Also, SERIOUS boo on the loss of the orientation lock switch. I use that thing all the time.

I've been using my imac with an external toshiba display but admittedly it's an old tech via vga because it is the 2007 imac. Anyhow that was an issue other people reported and switchres app partially solves the issue. If it works via hdmi however then it is good news.
