Ok I get it now. Mini 3 IS the mini 2 except for the Touch ID so why would they redesign the chassis just to remove the switch? Next version will have it removed.
I am going to publicly laugh at people if I see a iPad mini 3 in their hands !!! For $100 less they can buy the exact same tablet ...touchid has no reason to exist on the mini.
Good thing is refurb iPad mini 2 will be a a great price now !! so will craigslist and eBay ... Hope to see mini2s at 230$ or so...
Glad I sold my Air1 now,I'll be getting a 64GB black one asap tomorrow.
Fwiw, last time they did a midnight sale pre-orders slipped to a couple weeks with in 15 minutes. Not sure they are taking pre-orders at midnight this time, just a heads up.

Awesome! When will you have pictures of the inside of it showing the 2 gb of RAM?
Yes, pry it open. Apple bought Anand, so he won't do it this time. It's up to you Tarekith.

As a Mini Retina owner who wants to upgrade to 2GB Ram,i'm exactly in this situation.Losing a hundred bucks...but on the other hand, the Air 2 is 100$ cheaper than the first one was,
so it's give and take
I'm glad there's no reason to upgrade from iPad mini 2 yet. Touch ID is nice but gold? Not for me. The next mini will probably be a bigger improvement.
The most interesting thing that they have snuck in the new iPad is the SIM ... Not sure why it was not harped on ?

One SIM. Many options.
The new Apple SIM is pre-installed on iPad Air 2 with Wi‑Fi + Cellular models. The Apple SIM gives you the flexibility to choose from a variety of short-term plans from selected carriers in the US and UK right there on your iPad.
This is cool and will be great when they do this to the phone !

I wasn't going to open it up, but you all convinced me. I'll sacrifice my new iPad Air2 so you can see what it's made of.
(no of course not silly)
They're so thin now, if you hold it up to the light you should be able to read the lettering on the chips...
thin is getting old fast
If the air gap is gone, I'm hoping the display will feel more solid again. That's one thing I noticed about the iPad Air, it was thin but it felt like there was a gap behind the glass or something. Typing on it was much louder than previous iPads.
That made it also a little cheap feeling and probably less reliable to me.
^ Yeah, I wonder if these will bend too?!
Depends, for bending is minimum 2GB RAM.
