Can you livestream an AUM session?

    Yeah you can.

I’m thinking of doing it with it weekly jam sessions and using my iconnect4 so that I can mix / record our instruments stems on an iPad, then use the other side with maybe my phone and just a static shot of the room (nice lighting etc, maybe behind a wobbly bottle to make it blurry and interesting) but have the mixed sound come through into the stream rather than just the phone camera mic…

I'm not familar with the iconnect4 however I seem to remember
that you can connect multiple idevices to the one interface.
If so use the ipad for all of your sound sources and use the iPhone for livestreaming connected to the iConnect4.
That way the iPhone receives all of the audio as well as providing the visuals.
The blurry bottle idea seems interesting.

My way of streaming is I have the audio output from my ipad via the UMC1820 sent to my Pixel 5 connected to my Soundcraft Notepad 5 the latter of which has usb audio so what you hear is what I hear barring the signal path having to go through the Notepad 5 rather than direct from the UMC1820.

Cheers Gravitas, that was kinda my thinking. I’ll experiment today with some setups and maybe we’ll try our first experiment tonight!

    No worries.

I'm out tonight for a gig so drop the link here when you do live stream.

Hopefully will be on this in a bit…

No idea how that went, I think the sound kept coming and going from reports I’ve had, the file I guess needs processing at YouTube before I can check it… hopefully it gets easier with practice as it kinda put us off our stride a bit tonight…

I've been focused on my stuff the past few days so I haven't been able to check your stream.
Something to keep in my mind, if you have less than a 1k subscribers
you have to set your stream to public once the stream is finished.

Yeah for sure, this one maybe stays behind the curtain; sound mix was a bit off I think, and we didn’t find a very interesting angle for the camera. I’ll try again next time, hopefully it’ll get easier in time and not be a distraction from the main attraction of the evening for me 😅

I've left all of mine up including the bloopers.
It's a learning curve for sure however it does get easier with practice.

I wouldn’t spend too much time on it, if you even bother, thanks though mister 🙏

I will have look later on today.
Post the link here if you don't mind. 🙏🏾

It’s actually up already, need some way of monitoring the output though as (for a change) I’m way louder than everyone else 😅

    Sorry, I forgot 🙌

  • I've had a browse.

    Yeah, the mix was off.
The guitar was way louder than everything else.
I would suggest that you do some gain staging
whilst you're getting used to live streaming and
the other thing I would suggest is stream the visuals horizontally.
If you're streaming directly from the YouTube app
you should be able to select the orientation before streaming.

Looking foward to seeing how your streaming evolves and continue to post the links here. 🙌🏾

Cheers, I realised later what happened; initially I’d balanced it all like months ago when rosy multi track recording the sessions, but the drums were always way too hot, and being mixed with the keyboards I didn’t have much choice but to lower them (only four channels) and also the other guitar for some reason always peaked out as well, so I lowered that, but I always rebalanced them when putting them all back together. I got out of the habit of multitrack recording as it put a barrier between us getting started quickly, but kept the same AUM session and only invariably would get something other than me to plug in. Inevitably as I’ve saved a new version each week, with tweaks, I’ve got louder, while everything else stayed the same. Totally forgot this, I’ll have to just try to make a better gist of it. Trouble is, the priority is just us being there together playing not all this messing about and I / they don’t want anything to get in the way of that so getting it set up will be tricky/take time/maybe never happen… I’ll see how it feels as we go, we might try another space (my valve workshop which has space) so maybe there I can get a more controlled setup in place that can just be walked into and it’s ready to roll rather than where we currently are, which is vaguely set up, but is mostly our mate’s office adjoining their retail wharehouse premises…

Thanks for listening, sorry for the trauma 😅

You're not far of the mark soundwise you just need to balance it.
That's when a sound engineer comes in handy for sure.

    Tame?
I was staring at the mosh pit the other night and I had to take a deep breath because I was there professionally.
What I felt to do was dive in however I held myself back and that's about as tame as it gets with me.
The youngun's felt it so left a clearing just in case. ;)

All three I think, for some reason the go pro crapes out after an hour or so, though missing not so bad. Pleased with the sound, no extra stress with mixing and sounds pretty good. Gonna try to theme the projections, maybe a Lynch night, anime night, Tarkovsky, etc etc

  • Good evening all,

As the few who follow this thread have noticed
I haven't been doing any live streams recently.
    Here's why.

It was brought to my attention that there was infighting between
a couple of my subscribers (members of this forum), and it wasn't entirely their fault.
When third party's get involved in s!!t stirring then there's not much you can do, in my experience it's best to let it go.
I'm not going to mention any names however it did saddened me to learn that
they were encouraged to fight between themselves before my live stream actually got a good grip so to speak.
I am going to continue with my live streams in the future however I'm not going to share it with this Forum anymore.
If you've already subscribed to my YouTube then notifications will give you the heads up when I start again.

In regards to providing another outlet for the iOS platform via my live stream I doubt that will happen now.
Anyways the pilot chat was a really cool learning experience for myself and the few who attended so to speak.

Thank you to all who have supported my efforts so far.

    That's it.

    As you were.

Thank you for your service and patience and tutelage and making this community what it is today . Always will remember the time you spent to teach me and how much you love the music the art and spreading knowledge and love

You are the most positive and valuable asset I’ve come across musically , bridging electronic and acoustic and you’re an inspiration for all

Thank you again man (and I’m sorry things turned out the way they did FWIW, and I support your decision and thinking totally)

    You da man ish

Well dang Ish, sorry that this project didn’t pan out for you the way you had hoped. I avoid YT like the scourge it is but did peak at a couple of your videos. Anywho, I absolutely agree with Yellow Eyez’s statement. You have been an amazing help and inspiration. Best of luck with whatever comes next for you!

The live stream actually did pan out
only not for the iOS platform.
I have interest from Artists, musicians,
producers and creativity right across the board
    however that's from other platforms.

As there are elements on this forum playing silly games I'm not going to encourage
such activities on my creative outlets
which I'm investing and paying for
also on that note there is a certain lack of financial incentive for me to pour further energies into the iOS platform.
As an iOS user especially in regards
to dRambo I shall still be active.

Thank you for your wishes of good luck
    🙏🏾

  • Fascinating…

And I’m seeing trends from my own personal experiences. Someone once advised me to do this, “Build your own community…”

I never really focused on “the community”. What works for some will not work for others. It’s the reason why despite so many apps out there, and tools, there isn’t a one size fits all.

So, make the content you want to make, share the experiences you want to share, and find the people who support you in the journey that you are aiming for.

But, hey, what do I know…I’m just living one day at a time.

  • Dang I must have missed all of that @Gravitas

Please know that there are many of us who respect and admire your work, and while (speaking for myself) I might not always have the time to keep up with everything, I always appreciate the time you take to share your knowledge.

Always bear in mind that my focus isn't
software it will always be the music.
I'm on the iOS platform because the apps
are affordable, equal in quality to their
desktop equivalents and because their fun.
If I was here to sell apps then my approach
    would've been very different and I would've
    started years ago.

So, make the content you want to make, share the experiences you want to share, and find the people who support you in the journey that you are aiming for.

    Agreed.

On this note I hope you're doing okay.

    Behind the scenes dude,
    not even in the outtakes.

Please know that there are many of us who respect and admire your work, and while (speaking for myself) I might not always have the time to keep up with everything, I always appreciate the time you take to share your knowledge.

That much I do know which I appreciate greatly and I'm very aware that people don't always have the time myself included.
That's why I called it a "Pilot" chat.
It was a tester to learn which direction
I needed to go with it however when
I learned of the confusion making
I put the stream on hold thought about it
and decided that here is not the place
    to aim my stream at.
I do love the iOS apps but I need to discuss
and talk about more things than just apps.
The World of Music is vast and that's what
my focus has always been about.

As one of my "real" friends said on the stream
"In the twenty years or more that
I've known Ishmael I can tell you he's passionate as f!!k about music"

    That said everything to me.

  • Yeah, all's well.

Good to know that all is well.

  • @Gravitas I've been bit by out of the forum conversations.

There was a side discord at some point with some forum members, I don't know if it is still around, but that really left a bad taste in my mouth. I am an idiot and sometimes over shared, thinking well I'm in a group of friends. But the conversations there started becoming stranger by the day so I left. It left me so disappointed that I even stopped coming here to this forum for months. Even stopped making music for a month or so. How could I have been so naive?

Now I come here to learn, help others when I can, and to share the music I make. Never again will I join a discord or a private exclusive forum for a "special group of people."

When you trust and your trust gets broken
then yes that would leave you feeling a little bit naive.
It's okay, it happens so now you know what to look out for.

That's why I'm on the iOS platform as well and to enable it as much as possible.

    I hear you.

    I don't discord at all.
I was invited to a discord a couple of years ago
I stepped in and stepped straight back out and I refuse all invites to join Discord groups.
Discord is certainly not for me.
Special groups of people for me are bands and orchestras. :)
