Couple of other small suggestions on the UI:
you tap a clip to activate it playing. Therefore my brain REALLY wants to tap a clip to deactivate it. I keep doing this while jamming away and of course tapping a playing clip takes you into editing it (rather than stopping it). Could I suggest tapping once always just toggles clips on and off and it's changed to a double tap to get into the clip to edit it? (remembering to have to go up to the top of the column in order to stop a playing clip seems counter intuitive to me).
it's nice to be able to play live as much as possible but a few preview things happens that get in the way. It would be nice to be able to change drum kits or synths as you play - but it appears to give you a preview sound when you try to do this. Similarly it would be nice to select some notes and drop them, say a few rows up at the precise moment to have the same pattern pitch up a few notes. Live. But if you try to do this live you hear the notes preview (out of time) as the are dragged up. Be nice to not hear notes as you pick them up and move them around IMO, just after you drop them.
Not huge things... But thought this might be useful.
MIdi out however... Would be incredible .
I like this. Despite only having a few sounds, they sound good and the envelope and filter controls provide scope to create some nice variations. I like that the drum filter springs back, but it would be good if this were a toggle between staying where you set it and the sprung return to zero.
I exported a loop to Sector but the loop seems to export at the wrong tempo as if you have the Sector tempo link activated it was playing each region back around 1.7. If you use Sector, this clumsy description should make sense - can anyone else repeat this?
Also, how do you stop individual patterns while recording?
This one definitely has potential though.
"Also, how do you stop individual patterns while recording?"
Stop button at the top of each column / track?
Congrats on the release and welcome @lenberg. Stunning UX and design work here.

Hi and congrats on your release, I'd just like some background on your ideas about the app and where you and your partner are planning to go with it if you care to share?
and what was you're reasoning behind including copy/paste out but not (in) the app?
regards
I love it. More kits/sounds are needed but as a basic concept I love it. I thrive on limitation(I'm finding). Just a filter-vol- and a grid. Awesome.
No question the simplicity here is lovely. Agree with the constraint thing, but would like to see a few of the simpler suggestions above. I agree on the feeling that just touching the loop should stop it. But, hey, whatever, small beans in the scheme of things. Very nice development and design.
If I could have one thing and one thing only? Audiobus; by a thousand miles.
Edit: Er, yeah, maybe missing something here, but I'd like to save more than the one thing...
@lenberg: what a great app. "Less is more" is definitely true in the case of Auxy. I really like the app on itself, but imagine the creative power that would be unleashed if each of the four channels could drive a synth in Caustic. Having 4 PCM synths in Caustic each loaded to the brim with my own samples and being able to trigger them from inside Auxy would be amazing!
Please, please, add a separate midi out for each of the channels!!!!
Wow, so much great input. Thanks!
To answer your questions (remind me if I'm missing something):
Midi Out is in the works! We'll post more info and ask for your feedback soon. We actually tried this a while back at the Midi Hackday in Stockholm and it's a lot of fun for sure. Check out this video. (Fredrik is programming on an early version of Auxy and I'm tweaking the sounds on the NordLead)
New sounds are high on our priority list, but I'm not gonna talk too much about exactly what we're doing. Gotta keep some things as a surprise...
Currently, sounds are generated with a built-in synth, except for drums which are sample-based.
Sample import would be cool but we're not promising anything. It's tricky to work out both technically and UI-wise, but we have some interesting ideas in this area. Same goes for pasting sounds into the app.
Tapping loops to stop them is something we've tried and after a lot of testing we feel the current design works best. In short, we feel it's better to keep the loop triggering "stable" (as in not accidentally stopping loops) and you will hopefully get used to how it works if you give it some time. Keep me posted on how this feels after you've used the app some more.
If you change the sound while playing a loop on that channel it won't trigger the preview, but I guess it might be tricky to do a silent change... Hm... Have made a note to think more about this.
The filter snap back for drums is mainly there to make sure people don't forget about it and start wondering why their kick doesn't sound, but I agree there are situations where it makes sense for it to stay fixed.
About the background for the project, I just realised it took exactly a year from writing this blog post to launching the app: https://medium.com/@lenberg/the-vision-for-my-next-company-7cba73f639e1
I was super lucky to find Fredrik Gadnell to help co-found the company and build the app. You can read a little bit more about our thinking here as well: http://auxy.co/about/

This app is really cool. It looks great, has a velvety feel whilst editing the piano roll, smooth gestures and huge potential.
Whilst the internal sounds are nice, having this as a midi out motor would almost certainly elevate a progressed version of this app to 'essential'.
For any reader who hasn't picked this up yet, hit the store now. It's currently free, so nothing to lose. You'll find yourself a very nice app.
Congrats to the Auxy team.
@lenberg Hi, interested in seeing the video you mentioned, but at the moment I think the link is missing.
Great to see those planned features.
Thanks
Ah, strange... vimeo.com/95650050
Cool vid. Thanks.
Just read your blog too. Awesome. You're an iOS music VIP!
Check it out guys... https://medium.com/@lenberg/my-soundcloud-journey-b16a25f60c22
And definitely read the link @lenberg posted https://medium.com/@lenberg/the-vision-for-my-next-company-7cba73f639e1
Been playing more this with app and liking it more and more.
"Midi Out is in the works!"
Brilliant. That's the big one IMO. That's great news.
It would, at some stage, also be nice to be able to turn off the snapping to grid/quantisation. And also be able to switch to a triplet grid.
The synth sounds nice BTW. If we could get some access to twiddle with the synth a bit more that would be nice too.
Oh and audio bus of course.
But Midi out... that would be really awesome.
I'll check your links out now .
Hi Hendrik, thanks for the fun app. I love the simplicity of it. Looking forward to the new sounds.
+1 to turning off grid. Being able to reduce note lengths less than a sixteenth to get a more staccato feel would be a boost.
Happy to announce that we have some goodies in the works related to shorter notes, triplets, etc.
@lenberg: Made that vimeo URL into a markup link. I think only Youtube vidoes are embedded automatically. Good stuff!
Thanks @sebastian! Seemed like the link was being resolved but disappeared instead of actually creating a video player.
Also: Nice to have you here.
Love this bit from the Medium post:
(even though I'm constantly asking for new features!)
Peter Kirn just wrote a really good post that I think captures a lot of what we're about: http://createdigitalmusic.com/2014/10/auxy-best-piano-roll-editor-ipad-yet-much-else/
I read that CDM article earlier and wasn't sure about the title including "not much else..." Which made it sound like a bad thing -- and a lot here agree that it is not a bad thing. Yes to make it into an iOS workflow it needs a couple of additions, but I love the simplicity of Auxy.
thanks for sharing your thoughts lenberg, guess I would only echo everybody's midi out request and add that it would be lovely if it turned out that you guys let us use our own samples.
thanks again for putting this out
I like this app but like so many others it's stuck in 4/4 time signature. Can those of us that aren't into EDM exclusively get some love too? Thanks
+1 for different time signatures. I compose a lot in 3/4 and 6/8.
These extra features would be nice, but it's also a lot to be asking of a free app.
p.s. - It's pretty easy to compose different time signatures in Xynthesizr. You can set the bar length to however many beats you like, as long as you don't mind composing only one bar at a time.
what's the connection between this app and xynthesizr?
According to their Twitter page the idea is to get users engaged then start charging for more advanced features.
