Nice! That was a complete transformation. Some nice rests where I didn’t expect them. Nice sounds, especially the lead sax. 💙

Thanks for letting me mess with your track :)

  • Here is my little 4-track contribution, a vocal from JWM himself and his track I am the DJ. He kindly permitted me to use it🙏, and what can be better than using stuff from the OP himself?

I made some kind of sonic mayhem with a beat and arps and the vocal is layered on top. As usual it’s made in Roland Zenbeats, using ZR1 for drums, and the two arps are from SM2 and Discovery respectively. Mixed in Zenbeats, and additional mixing and mastering made in GF2.

It doesn’t make your talent justice @jwmmakerofmusic, but hey, it’s all for fun😎.

I really love that. Bloody nice work. :) Wish I could master Zenbeats, but alas it eludes me. I'm definitely more well versed in apps such as Gadget, NS2, and the sort.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic Thanks duder! Listening back, the mix is so bad. My voice is so monotone and high in the mix lol I may need to redo the track or post a new one

Well, if it's any consolation, I quite enjoyed it. Like I said, someday maybe we'll collab. :)

Here is my entry. I have no idea why it gos track 1,31, 32, 33 after the 31 came down, I had no idea how to change it and had done too much to care.

All the different sounds from the RingsFX track are done by automating settings in the app. It is still only the one sound preset.

I had difficulty adding more fx in as at one point I was getting close to using all the processor power. The drum track, which would have been the first I could freeze, would not with the new Glitchstep app in it. Even with only four tracks, freezing and unfreezing to add fx became problematic - RingsFX especially, as it kept wanting to change preset while unfrozen and starting up Logic.

If I could have used some fx tracks, I would have added more!

The piece really needs a fifth track to have had a lead sax - that would have transformed it. As it is, it’s more a backing track lol

Enjoyed learning from the challenge though!

Link is down but had a listen by going into your channel , very nice ambient feel , especially like the bloom app , it’s going into my wish list for Santa 🥰👍

  • Awesome track @DMfan
Like @jwmmakerofmusic, admiring the mastery of Zen(beats)
But unlike him I can't say I mastered any app at all  More of a jack of all trades just dabbling around.

Listening to it now I am getting some ideas for a second version that won’t fit with only four tracks….

I just might go ahead and do more with it😉.

Yeah nice track, but I’m pretty much convinced most the tracks submitted just need those few extra tracks. I suppose in the old days, we would have bounced down and added more anyway. I posted an extended version of mine and AlexYs 4 track challenges, so would be great to see you post an extended version of this too!

Thanks, @jwmmakerofmusic! Fun challenge. Well, I’ve played a lot of jazz gigs as a trumpeter, but don’t think I’m a ‘real’ jazz player, but do try to play well enough to do what the gig calls for. After suffering a lip injury during a symphony gig, I had to start playing more piano gigs while my embrouchure healed, which seemed to be jazzier gigs. Found a need playing piano/singing at retirement communities. Have learned a wide variety of styles that way, especially the older jazz music.

I’ve been listening to everyone’s track. They are all good! 4 tracks can do a lot. There’s a lot of talent on this forum. This challenge is also a great way to see what these various apps can do.

Nice groove! I especially like the kick pattern in the breakdown.

Very nice track. I get some nice Daftpunk vibes. Good work.

  • @peanutgallery. This is a nice upbeat number. There's a very positive vibe to the whole thing. I appreciate your choice of sounds. For some reason it reminded me of 1980s Yes.

@AlexY. Rocking out with NS2. Love it. It's nice to hear someone coax atypical sounds out of NS2.

@DMfan. This one has some nice bounce to it. The swung feel is nice. I really dig the part that sounds like a trancegated pad. Adds a lot of rhythmic interest.

  • So I'm thinking for my next challenge (the December one), I may either do a "holiday music" challenge, or a Logic Pro challenge.

The first would be app-agnostic and could be instrumental or vocal, just add sleigh bells. 😂 (Joking about the last part.)

The latter would focus solely on Logic Pro for iPad, using only what comes inside (which is a lot once you download the 30gb+ worth of content) and the plugins within. External vocals would be allowed, but nothing else. Free trial for a month if a new subscriber, but only a fiver if you wish to enter.

So, which of these two are you more likely to gravitate towards?

I don’t have Logic Pro, so I’d be out of contributing, but I’d still be listening!

Hmm, well it's between the Logic Pro challenge vs the Holiday Music challenge (the latter which is "app agnostic"). So, I'm going to assume your vote is for the Holiday Music challenge. :) Fair enough mate.

  • Why not both? Holiday Music Challenge
Those who have Logic Pro go ahead. Those of us (like me) that doesn't, can use GarageBand

That may be fun combining the two. BUT, I just gave it some deep thought, and perhaps a Holiday Music Challenge could potentially spark controversy given there are so many Holidays celebrated in December including Ashura, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas, Festivus, etc. It could open the floodgates for inhouse fighting and "I'm right, you're wrong" rubbish, which is the opposite of what the intention of the challenge would be to be honest. The less headaches for Michael, Doug, Wim (I forgot Wim's first name, sorry mate) and Chris, the better.

But you do bring up a good point regarding Garageband. We can open it up to a "Logic Pro for iPad and Garageband" only challenge, where the goal is to use only what comes inside of Logic and Garageband (with Logic having far more options and plugins, but hidden behind a subscription paywall). That way, it's a fair game for everyone. Plus it would avoid fighting over holiday shit, and people have the option to start a project in Garageband and import it into Logic Pro to finish it up.

  • Good point @jwmmakerofmusic
Agreed on the holiday spectrum of things
    Better safe than sorry

  • I would really like to have Monthly Four Track Challenge. And have it divided by month :)

  • edited November 15

I will boldly go where no man has gone before and have Scotty beam the link up for my 4- track challenge contribution but in its newer version😁.

My vote is for a Holiday challenge with enormous amounts of hoho-audio, sleighbell samples “en masse” and Last Christmas-vibes. Let’s keep the LP challenge in the LP thread shall we, since not everyone uses LP?

    /DMfan🇸🇪

  • Another vote for Christmas rather than LP. Not an LP user.

To address the worry about not representing other holiday how about making it Christmas/other winter holidays?

Exactly mate. Better safe than sorry.

@DMfan and @ecamburn Right. So, above I settled on possibly an LP/GB only challenge, where you can use either Logic Pro, or Garageband, or both in tandem to create a track with. :) (And if only using Garageband, I will most likely allow the usage of a separate app for mastering purposes.) But I will keep in mind the Holiday Song/Instrumental challenge as well.

  • I’m glad it worked, thank you Jim :)
