š Harmonicc - Chord Progressions & Sequencer (Out!)
The app is out!
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/harmonicc-chord-sequencer-auv3/id6692624491
https://keybudapp.com/harmonicc
Hey all, Iām super excited to announce my new chord progression app, Harmonicc! Many of you know my passion for creating apps that make complex stuff fun and simple. Itās a dream come true. I've always wanted to explore chords and progressions without needing deep theory knowledge. ChordBud is awesome but does require some degree of music theory knowledge.
Harmonicc, powered by the brand-new Harmony Engine and built with assistance from the best AI models, represents chords with emojis and suggests chords that fit your progression and selected style, so no theory needed
The app has two main parts: the top half, Harmonics, and the bottom half, the sequencer.
- Harmony Engine loads the next set of related harmonics when you pick a chord by lifting your finger inside the chord pad.
- Sequencer Recording: When you pick a chord, itās recorded directly into the sequencer.
- Expanded Sequencer Options: Expand the sequencer to configure each step individually, adjusting settings like step duration, repeats, octaves, bass notes, inversion, individual notes, gate, and velocity.
- Strum and Lofi Effects: Add strum for rhythmic depth, while the lofi effect slightly nudges notes off the grid for a humanized touch.
- Step Navigation: When the sequencer is playing, you can jump to specific steps. If the sequencer is inactive (when the host is stopped or sequencer is disabled), you can trigger steps via MIDI.
- Customizable MIDI Mapping: C4 triggers the first step by default, but you can adjust it in the settings and even force white-key triggers (e.g., C4 for the first step, D4 for the second instead of C#4).
- MIDI Control Options: Use a MIDI keyboard, launchpad, or another sequencer to play chords.
- Style Selection: Choose from various styles that affect harmonic complexity. Jazz includes more complex chords, while Pop sticks to simpler ones (and thereās much more to explore!)
- Pattern Chaining: Automatically play your patterns in sequence.
- MIDI Export: Export your sequences as MIDI files for use elsewhere.
- Dual MIDI Outputs: The app includes separate MIDI outputs for chords and bass. The lowest note has its own MIDI out, perfect for controlling a bass synth.
Iām currently beta testing the app and would love to hear your initial feedback. I think it covers most of the essential styles and chord types, but the Harmony Engine is highly scalable, so Iām open to adding more! DM me your TestFlight email if youād like to help test. Thanks!

I know chords and harmony and it still looks interesting.
Nice!
Great
Great idea š Now I know why we have so many emojis in Unicode (finally). š
Deleted
Fun idea!
Iām avoiding anything that includes AI on ethical and environmental grounds.
Interesting, please elaborate š§
I wrote this:
https://www.lifewire.com/generative-ai-environmental-nightmare-8601430
And thereās plenty out there on LLMs being trained on everybodyās creations without permission or payment.
Oh right, they totally can be used unethically in some cases. But in my case it helped me to write hundreds of lines of emoji code and assistance on harmony, so nothing unethical
Is this a typo in the article... "According to an analysis published in sustainability research Joule last year, NVIDIA will ship around 1.5 Million AI servers per year by 2017"?
Nice article! Iām with you about āiaās, not only for that material reasons but also for deeper and more spiritual ones.
Itoh, seems like a n awesome new midi processor @cem_olcay !
Looking Forward to seeing this on my iPad!
Had a lot of inspiration using the beta of this thereās a lot of timing options etc that makes it fun and flexible ššæš¹š½
I was all in on this until I saw the phrase āAIā. There is no such thing as āAIā and I avoid using anything that has contributed to the massive water consumption and environmental damage caused by training large language models. Can you let me know exactly what form of āAIā was used please? (Humanity already knows all the rules of music, so machine learning is superfluous to a project like this). But I am very keen on the app, so it would be great to know if I can buy it or will have to forgo on ethical grounds.
I built the emoji part with the help of AI. Itās almost criminal to not using it as a software dev. It saves you hours or even days of time. Itās the greatest thing ever humans invented after the internet. But donāt worry Harmonicc is not an AI app
Itās definitely criminal to use āAIā in any circumstance. And itās definitely the greatest thing humans have invented to destroy the ecosystem. For example, in Ireland alone, 30% of all water use goes to cooling āAIā data centres. Many people in this thread are telling you the same thing. You need to educate yourself and stop just ignoring what people are telling you soās you can āsave timeā on unnecessary frivolities.
Brilliant article! Have you tuned into the 4 part series on the Tech Wonāt Save Us podcast called āData Vampiresā? Itās fabulous.
Are you familiar with Emily M Bender too? She is my hero.
These are just the engineering problems we will overcome eventually. Itās true that itās not the most efficient today, but itās the future and it will only get better
So much whining about AI. It has pros and cons. This is hardly a negative use of it, jeez.
@cem_olcay
I made a decent chord progression with rests etc using the standalone beta. Closed the app and lost everything. Any thoughts in the future now you put sound engines into your midi apps to add save project function.
Working in standalone gives you a full screen which is great working in AU can be fiddly at times but gives you state saving in the chosen host if built in.
Would love to be able to create using standalone then save then open the project in AUM say as a AU. Or canāt we do that is it an Apple limitation?
I just finished adding the preset manager and will upload a new beta version soon. It's iCloud based and you can use your presets across your devices between both standalone app and the AUv3 plugin.
Thatās fabulous tried it works great I hope you can add the presets feature to your other apps where appropriate. Really am enjoying Harmonicc.
Well said. Some people just love telling others there high and mighty opinion, displaying their āsuperiorityā

I think all beta testers are happy, I'm planning to release the app on Monday! I'm working on the landing page and the screenshots right now. I'll let you guys know when it's ready.
Sweet canāt wait instant buy from me itās a great tool to have in your arsenal.
Glad to hear that, thanks!
I released a final beta version with some sweet factory presets for the AUv3 app.
For the next version (after the release) Iām planning to add a random progression generator.
@cem_olcay I couldnāt find the factory presets what are they under?
