Is gadget allowed for this? Kinda feeling sone korg today and for some reason korg refuses to give memphis (ms-20) , lexington, or the mono poly the auv3 treatment 😡🤬
But one of those x4 could make a great jam for this challenge

Gadget is perfectly legit as long as you stick to up to four instances of one synth. :) Best of luck.

Rad! I’m probably going drumless since its 4 synths max and so gadget sequencer will be of great value to me!

That sounds like a good plan to me. :) Ofc if you choose a synth that has a mod matrix like Montpellier, you might be able to synthesise a simple kickdrum for one of the 4 instances if that is your wish. Then again, drumless is very nice too. Ambient or some other form of Electronica. :) Like most of Daft Punk's work on the "Tron: Legacy" soundtrack.

Absolutely, i could create some kicks or a hat with a synth, and i might! But i might hog up all the sounds with bass, pad, lead, arp! Haha who knows but i just started!

Awesome. Let's see where this takes you mate. :)

  • Finally finished my entry. Despite this being created in Nanostudio 2, my weapon of choice was Twin 3, not Obsidian. I fed the first instance of Twin 3 (the pads) into Pro-R2 to get those pads sounding lush af. The rolling bassline was originally a sustained bassline, but I evolved it into a rolling bassline by placing Flux Mini 2 on the effect rack to act as a gate.

The third instance of Twin 3 is the simple plucked lead. Nothing more to it than that, lol. Just a little PWM, and got an evolving plucked lead. Finally, the kickdrum was created with Twin 3 as well. I used FAC Transient to make the kick punchier and Doctor Vibe to make it sharper.

I mastered the track in the Nanostudio 2 project itself using Grand Finale 2, NS2's limiter to prevent anything going above -1dB, and Youlean's Loudness Meter. This piece will appear on my upcoming EP.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic that cover art really fits, very memory oriented. Good stuff.

Great track! That Twin3 pad is just butter melted over pancakes!

  • @Drrabbitfoot Thanks mate. :) Yeah, just a quick cover art generated in Wonder AI. 😂 I slapped a little text on top, made some edits to the vibrance and warmth, added a vignette, and voila.

@Nighur Thank you so kindly. :) I appreciate it. Such is the power of Twin 3.

@Fruitbat1919 Thanks so much mate. The secret to the Twin3 pad isn't just how I used Twin 3 itself but also Pro-R2. The final pads you hear are 100% wet/0% dry Pro-R2 mate. Pro-R2 is rather simple to grok once you understand what each control is doing and, in my opinion, could easily compete with Logic's Quantec. In fact, Pro-R2 can load IRs as reference material which it tries to approximate with its EQ curve, time-based EQ curve, etc. If you have any Quantec IRs, you could load one into Pro-R2 to approximate its character. Switch between the various reverb algorithms, adjust the character of the reverb, etc to get the timbre you desire.

That said, I didn't load any IRs into Pro-R2 for this one. I simply shaped the sound until it sounded good to my ears.

I’m still waiting to get the FabFilter pack of apps. I was getting them last year in the sale and I had other things come up….this year I spent way to much on sale apps throughout November (I bought enough apps for one each day of the month!). Roll on next years sales lol

Lol! 😂 I snagged a couple of apps during Black Friday, including OneShot and Pro-R2 (which I was honestly surprised I didn't yet have 😅 ). Nothing quite like using Pro-R2.

  • Drambo with four daggers. Game? Sorry John didn’t read the rules

  • @jwmmakerofmusic it was a preset I tweaked with argument, and I apologize but I wanted to make sure you understood that it was the music I was calling memory oriented. Your song made me think I was walking through memories.

  • @Fruitbat1919 & @jwmmakerofmusic thank you. This was a hell of an exercise:)

Me llamo Jim, no John, lol. Lo siento. :) And yes, Drambo as a host with four Daggers sounds like it'd be interesting. I probably should've specified that Drambo cannot be used as a plugin, but as a host with four instances of one synth plugin is fine.

Ah, now I understand better. (I came down with a cold recently, so my brain is foggier than usual. ) I like that you think the song makes you feel you're walking through memories. <3 And well done on tweaking the preset with Argument! That's so cool. :) (I for the life of me wouldn't be able to figure out how to use Argument, which is why I've yet to purchase it. )

And yeah, one hell of an exercise, but I'm glad you made what you made. Sounds great. :)

Thank you so much mate. Yeah, I needed to slow down. I was headed for yet another musical burnout, so slowing down and being more contemplative helped me immensely.

  • Woah hole up their folks this one here’s for fans a drum circles and open toed shoes, apéritif in hand. Mainly I wanted to experiment with Drambo, it’s whatever you need it to be and since it could not be a plugin but it could be a host I said let’s do this! I chose Bleep as my synth because Bleeps just cool and I wanted to see if I could get a melody out of it using Drambo. You can bounce around and see what I was using but I posted it to see if I a. Got other folk on this challenge and b. Learn stuff from other folk too. Stuff like this is for creatives to strut their stuff, and I’m here for it.

I'm here for it too. That was a very cool Experimental track. :) I loved it. Nice rhythm and everything.

  • Ahh thanks @jwmmakerofmusic, it was long and so I wanted to put the disclaimer in there

  • I was trying to make one with 4 instances of the new FM synth….at 2048 buffer and very few fx, I gave up….M1 iPad brought to its knees lol

Seems like the new FM synth is a bit of a CPU hog! But, I like what I heard. Very nice and well done. :)

A bit late but sorry nevertheless for mistaking your name. I knew you’re Jim, just a lapse. Haven’t been in the best headspace lately, I think I’m suffering from burnout or whatever it’s called. Sorry, you don’t need me mistaking names neither hearing about my problems.

Man I can totally relate. I was sick this week with a nasty cold. This happened right after I was also burned out on music creativity. My burnouts usually last a week, but this felt like it'd last a lot longer. So I switched up what focus my creativity should be - in other words, a return to Ambient music. (See footnote)

Anyways, if you need to vent, I'm here to listen and support mate. Wishing you better days ahead.

Footnote - This time however, instead of cacophonous atonal sound experiments, I'm creating melodic Ambient music more akin to something Tangerine Dream, Jean-Michel Jarre and Brian Eno would craft. There's still plenty of room for experimenting and sound crafting, but in a way that's accessible to the average listener.

@jwmmakerofmusic Very excited to dive into this. It reminds me of a contest run years ago (in iPad Musicians group on Facebook, I think) where folks were challenged to do record only using instances of Sunrizer (to showcase its versatility). Excited to try this again with a different synth, or maybe even Sunrizer again, as I just recently rediscovered how awesome it still is after all these years.

Made me remember Fluss - I’ve used it to make audio intros, but never used the input on it to use as fx……do I have to wear sandles ?
