I hope so. Hope it also works on iPad Mini 7 (my iPad).
EDIT: GR-II has reverb and a shimmer reverb! Yep that should lend itself good to Ambient.
EDIT 2: Rereading all of its features, GR-II definitely seems a suitable replacement for NS2 with one major difference...GR-II has a live loops section with follow actions. Again, this lends itself quite well to Ambient. The kind of Ambient I make doesn't necessarily rely on soundscapes (although I'd give that a shot if GR-II had audio tracks).
I was keen to look at this for a bit of fun but 50aud is too rich for my blood at the moment. Would have considered it at that price if it implemented audio tracks. Regardless, I’m sure it’s awesome!
Will the price go up?
You won't charged until the app actually releases, if that influences anything.
If you can run iPadOS 16+ you're in, but the app store listing recommends "iPad Pro 2nd generation or newer" for the "best experience". AFAIKT the mini 6 and mini 7 have the same number of cores, but the iPP 2 has one more performance core (3+3 vs 2+4), and a bunch more GPU cores. Mini 7 has more RAM than iPP 2 (8GB vs 4GB) and mini 6 has 4GB.
So I think it's reasonable to hope that it will run well on a mini 7. I'm guessing you might not be able to push a mini 6 as far in terms of track count and loaded AUv3 plugins. Of course none of that speaks to how well the interface will scale down.
Anyway, I just preordered! I'm a huge fan of Pure Acid and this looks like fun. I hope it can export projects to Ableton, though it does not list this capability on the app store listing, so I'm not holding my breath. $30 seems like a very reasonable price considering the feature list.
Yeh, that's reasonable for sure. Unfortunate for those who can't afford it, but it would be unwise to price something with the features it for any less.
Absolutely. And the quality of Jim Audios apps are of course AAA. And just look at those features and ui layout. Can’t wait to get another iPad. I’m iPhone and pc only these days. My 10.5 pro just reboots itself over and over anymore.
Sorry if I missed it but what’s the point of preordering?
Not really too sure
Just that you'll be sure to catch it right on release day with the release discount pricing. You don't get charged until it ships. But it does also give an indie developer the opportunity to have a strong launch day and get their app in the sales charts at release, so it's a good way (I think) to support a developer.
I mean I’ve spent thirty bucks on worse things. 🤙
(usually) None for you other than the magic of seeing the app prompt you to install automatically when released. If there's a discount provided on launch day or pre-release that would help not to miss it. But in this case I don't think there is special intro pricing. [edit] clarified further down
There could be some marketing advantage to the developer as mentioned. I don't know.
If you're one hovering over this thread, there's a good chance you'll get it sooner by buying as soon as someone mentions it's available here. My experience is sometimes the preorders can take slightly longer to show up on my device than they do to show up in the App Store.
I'm not preordering this time, personally.
According to Jim Audio Facebook post the pre-order is a $5 discount
Interesting. Wow. That’s pretty expensive for an iPad app. Is there any precedent for this cost? Maybe trying to set one?
Isn't Beatmaker the same price? Or most DAWs like Cubasis. This isn't just a synth. It's full-on host, so price seems fine.
To be fair, it looks like a really quality app, and his previous ones are also solid and quality. Dependent on how good the integration of Poison and Pure Acid is, it could get very expensive for people who don't already have those 😉
I was hoping for P-Locks but didn’t see that in the features list.
I find that price fair and realistic in 2025. Remember that this market seems to actually be smaller than it was a few years ago, you have inflation, you have more competition than there used to be. There are so many reasons why app prices can't remain as low as they were in the early days of the platform.

I’m actually going to leave this one it at the moment for that very reason. I’ve managed to get myself into a productive workflow that at last I am happy with. I prefer working with audio clips anyway.
Easy preorder. Looks worth the full price. Great developer that I’m sure will pour lots of love into it.
Given the app’s complexity/depth, it isn’t an unreasonable price at all.
JimAudio confirmed on Facebook it will run on my iPad Mini 7, but there may be graphic FPS lags. With that in mind, I preordered it.
Perhaps the automation that is mentioned has P-Lock styled automation shapes. We shall see. I'm hoping it does. 🙏
Anyways, for those suffering from sticker shock, let me remind everyone that a simple plugin called Knock...
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/knock/id6443654114
....costs the same price as GR-II's preorder price. Knock is a specialty tool for adding sauce to drums, and it's pretty great, but though I spent the $30 to purchase it a couple years ago, I'm of the opinion that Knock is more of a $15-$20 plugin. (Plus, I preferred Caelum's Beef before Doctor Vibe was released.)
GR-II on the other hand is a fully immersive creative environment that's similar to Nanostudio 2, but seems to have much more to it. For instance, NS2 doesn't have a clip launching mode with follow actions, whereas JimAudio advertises that GR-II does.
Think GR-II will become my main creative environment of choice once Jamuary is done. We will see. At least I'll challenge myself to make a couple Ambient pieces in GR-II.
Lol so true
Yeah same here!
In case you’ve got GR16 and you’re wondering if you need the new version. To me, yes.
Also GR16 has Elektron-style parameter locks, so I’d assume this will as well.
I would love to see how the Sampler is used...
This sampler with chord generator…. Now I’m very interested Again
That looks great … add some layered sample chords and let er cook
Will it run on my iPad Air 3?
Visit the store link posted in the thread. It includes suggest device and OS requirements.
If your Air 3 can run iOS, I think it can.
