Anybody attempting Jamuary 2025 ?
I’m know I am 😀
Comments
Hmm, what does Jamuary involve? Heard of it but not sure what it involves.
I think it’s starting and finishing an album.
Or maybe one song every day.
I might attempt a remix of one of the tracks from @GeoTony 's Scottish adventure a while back. You know, maybe a minimal ambient remix e.g. the sound of a running stream, with a distant cow mooing in the background, and the ghostly murmurs of those who fell in battle in the glen, punctuated with the mournful wailing of a lonely bagpiper. Do you think that would work?
Good questions… my interpretation is one track per day but… I think if you even attempt one track per day and only finish / part finish a track in the day / week / month / year etc you will have entered into the spirit of the event which is all that matters 😊
I think the idea is to publish something every day, doesn't need to be a full song, although some people certainly do that.
It can be followed up by finish February, to finish an album out of the recordings you did during jamuary (I don't know if that's a general thing, could be just Brian Funk, who I heard use that term).
I'm probably doing something similar to last year and just do something every couple of days, which is still a lot more than I usually do. Although last year I did it all on iOS and this year I wanna go 50:50 with Ableton and bring the two worlds together.
Just did a search and found this:
https://jamuary.org
There seem to be daily prompts, if you participate there.
My plan is an album in 2025. Track a day is too rich for my blood 😂
Remix away @craftycurate … I think a lonely ( very lonely ) bagpiper is the sound to go for.
Along with the sound of distant (cow) horns I think it could work.
BTW which Glen were you thinking of… Campbell, Matlock, Gould, Miller… ?
I see what you did there 👍
Definitely committed to doing something every day this January/year, as has been my pattern hitherto. Every day, I aim to do something musical, even if it's making a new patch for an app, or reading a bit more of the manual for an app, learning something new.
Aiming for a low bar of entry. If something blossoms from that - a loop, or even a track, then that's even better, but I'm trying to keep the fun factor alive and that means not burdening myself with goals which I know I will mostly not achieve.
I think the whole forum could have that as its mission statement @craftycurate 🙏
Reflecting further on this @GeoTony ... by taking track production out of the goals list, maybe my goals are more related to process than product.
Nothing wrong with end results as goals of course, and needless to say that each of us is a free agent and can set whatever goals we wish. But for me, my musical goals for this year might be:
Sounds like a manifesto to me 👌
Can it be Peanut Butter and Jamuary?
I vote for Glenn Miller on bagpipes
Thanks kindly. I googled Jamuary and it didn't pop up for me. Yeah, think I may give Jamuary a miss. Good way to burn out quickly for me personally. 😅
I'd pay to see that.
A track a day seems like a huge commitment. I'm pleased with myself if I can manage to change my guitar strings once every five years or so.
I think it’s all a state of mind @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr … my finished tracks might be somebody else’s rough cuts.
I think it’s where you stop editing, tweaking, mastering that matters. Most listeners aren’t (in my view) bothered, it’s the feel, the melody, the rhythm, the emotion that matters not the nuances…. but what do I know 😊
I did a jamuary years ago and it was a great exercise to give you a goal and push harder.
I’ll modify it to be, work on the same song every day until its done… and if that happens start the next!
I've probably written thirty poems over the last couple of years. Maybe I'll record one a day and upload them to freesound for other musicians to set. That seems doable.
Ok, I’ll start
Sounds like you’re still at the NYE After-After party! Which controller is that? Maybe it’s a good idea for everyone to start their own Jamuary thread? Thanks for sharing!
[Edit] NVRMND. Saw on your YT it’s a Maschine MK3
Great start @kyrillik , good luck for the other 30 days 😊
Yeah, I'm gonna need it
Here’s my first one:
OneShot, KingB, Tomofon and Solderbox recorded into loopy pro
Too short @tyslothrop1 , enjoyed the sounds you used !
Here’s my first one…
This is def just a raw n sloppy jam, sampled all the sounds, except the drums, from the arturia minifreak into the Roland P6.
@GeoTony Thanks, the next one might be longer and maybe I’ll pick this one up again some time.
Great improvisation on yours.
@reasone I like it. Reminds me of somebody flipping a synth sample from an 80s horror or sci-fi movie (yes, I know you sampled yourself).
