Does it do anything that cannot be done with snapheap or multipass? Honestly looks rather simple, despite being pretty.

Yeah, I looked hard at this. It's a real eye candy design but I already have other ways of getting to the same sound. Portals is the most interesting IMO but when I look at what I can do with No Input Mixer, Blue Cat Late Replies and Blue Cat Connector I'm well covered for feedback loops already. These plugins can be hard to resist but it's over $200 CAD for the full bundle so I'm glad I didn't rush ahead in the Black Friday scramble.

Looks like the lowest prices I've ever seen on U-he plugins. Ah... just checked. Diva is a little cheaper on Pluginboutique. But they're close.

Same here. There are a couple of U-he synths I've wanted for years.

This is just a PSA for anyone considering buying anything from Ableton soon. This will be, most likely, be the only sale you will get for Ableton until next year at the same time. Ableton doesn’t normally run sales apart from this time of year.

Ableton run a yearly sale starting Black Friday - last year it lasted only a week
    This includes upgrades from 7-11 -> 12.
    This includes the Push.
Thomann normally run a bit of a steeper discount on occasion (Thomman prices aren't lower in the EU, they pay VAT and it's the same price as buying directly from Ableton.)
You can’t stack the Student Discount on top of the Black Friday discount.
Last year the discount was 25%, however it has normally been 20% in years prior.

This includes edition upgrades (e.g. Standard -> Suite).
    This includes packs.
Regarding the push, when the sale lands it may be worth checking the B-Stock. I am not certain if they will also go on sale but if it does then you can get a further discount.

Push 3 (connected version) is £30 cheaper with Thomman (including VAT) than Ableton direct here in the UK, so if they have a discount that matches Ableton's (fingers crossed for 25%) I'll buy from there. That would bring the cost down to just £636, which I can just about justify for my noise making. A 20% deal with just Ableton pushes the cost to over £700, which might not be tempting enough for me. If Ableton do a 25% discount, I'm still in.

I usually buy an upgrade to Live during their sale, but I'm all up to date this year so some hardware is on the cards.

Ableton Black Friday sale is in effect today! 25% off Software and Packs, 20% off hardware. They also mentioned that Live 12.3 will be shipping on November 25. Sale runs through December 2.

Cheapest entry point for Omnisphere 3 right now is to buy Omnisphere 2 on sale for $399 at GC/Musicians Friend, which includes a free upgrade to 3. Traditionally Spectrasonics only discounts about 15% on Black Friday, but in rare occasion GC/MF has a 20% coupon. I doubt it this year since Omnisphere 3 is a brand new product.

I only have the “MixBox SE” version which comes with a more limited set of effects, but one of the big drawbacks is the lack of loading/saving presets so everything needs to be dialed in manually. By default they load with a "good starting place”. Still, it does contain a large amount of effects so may be useful to have around. It may be worth it just for the Uni-Vibe effect since that’s somewhat rareish as a plugin effect, though I don’t know how good it is.

Their newer T-Racks 6 product has loading/saving presets but it’s generally a small set of them compared to a more established line of products like what SoundToys offers. For instance IK’s Delay Lab comes with 11 total presets, while SoundToys EchoBoy has 50-100.

It’s almost laughable on IK’s part to take the effort to create supposedly world-class effects and then the lack of effort in making them useable to the average armchair music producer.

I think the cheapest product you can buy to get the free gift is the £5 Excite Audio Lifeline Wear

MixBox does actually come with loads of presets.

I was referring to the actual effects themselves… like if you want to quickly build your own rack and load your own effects, there is no load/save feature for each effect.

There is a way to save settings for individual effects: click on the small icon in the bottom left and a small window will appear under each effect, where the settings are saved and others can be saved.

It does. But we also have different definitions on what’s “useable” then :-)

To be honest, one of the best things about Mixbox is that it’s so quick and easy to set up fx from scratch. It’s my favourite IK plugin.

I don’t want a preset for EQ or compression, every sound is different and needs to be treated accordingly. What works on one sound might not work on another.

I don’t even like using presets for things like delays.

Having said that, the presets in Mixbox are good for getting ideas for fx chains. It helps with things such as which order compressors should go in when you want to catch the peaks then compress the rest more gently, and whether it’s best to EQ then compress or vice versa for specific sounds.

I still rarely, if ever, use the presets in Mixbox though. Not judging. Just a personal preference. But they are there.

I’m still pretty disappointed in IK for discontinuing MixBox. It’s a great plugin.
