Go to iPhone settings > GarageBand
You’ll find an option to enable our disable Apple Audio Unit Extensions

  • Or delete GB 😅
Some devs might just opt to put them at the bottom of the list

I deleted GB a long time ago and still have AAU Extensions. It’s probably because of the LP4i. 😌

It has nothing to do with GB or Logic. Even if you delete GB that won't affect AUM. Turning them off in GB settings won't stop them showing up in AUM.

Those effects have always been there as part of the operating system. Most apps didn't show them. They were updated with improved interfaces and reliability a few versions back, so apps started to expose them. AUM recently added them. Drambo has an option to turn them on or off, as does GarageBand. AUM doesn't have that option.

@j_liljedahl mentioned that sorting by most recently used in AUM will put them at the bottom of the list if you don't use them.

  • Hmm I gotta check better cause I’m not seeing them. User error for sure

  • The Apple AUv3 are NOT tied to either GarageBand or LogicPro for iPad.
They are part of iPadOS and it's up to the developer of the host app to show or hide them.

They're only present in the December AUM update, version 1.4.6.

  • I’d vote they be turned off by the dev in the next update please.

+1, I just cleaned up my auv3 folder leaving only what I use and now it's look messy again. It would be cool if AUM would let you make favorites or hide unused stuff.

If dev does that then some user(s) will ask where they gone. They’re not bad either, there’s some past discussions about them

  • Surely if you have the apps displayed in Last used order your favourites are at the top and unused stuff is at the bottom.
    Really don’t see a problem here 🤔

Right. That's how I keep mine organized, and mainly use the search box, so this is definitely not a problem

I don‘t like it that way though. i prefer the list sorted by company. Best for everyone would be an option to disappear the apple AU. I don‘t want them as well.

    Yep, me too.

You have something to say to me? Than try using clear words.

  • I just discovered these in AUM. Thanks to this forum for explaining where they came from. Some of these are pretty good. I like the delay/ distortion one- it includes a nice ring modulator. Lots of good EQ apps as well. Sort of pissed that the other apps suppress these. I guess you won’t buy as many 3rd party apps if you had access to the Apple apps.

It's more likely a combination of reasons, none of them related to selling more 3rd party apps. They're not suppressed, they have to be specifically enabled. They used to be unreliable and some had pretty bad interfaces, developers avoided exposing them. They're all or none. While some people appreciate having them, adding them often results in exactly the complaints you see here.

You'll probably start to see them in more apps over time.

because that was never my workflow…? that’s not too hard to understand. i had them organized by devs for years and honed in to about 30-40 apps on my list. now there is a huge ungodly amount of apple apps that are just a pain to scroll past every freaking time

search box. type two or three letters. done.

I bet I can find the plugin I want in less than half the time you can with or without the Apple plugins getting in the way. 😎

I'm sorry. I know I'm just being annoying. I get where you're coming from even though I'm not bothered by it. You might want to make a feature request for a settings option to hide them over on the AUM Discord.

  • AUM’s dev had mentioned on here or discord or both that he plans to update the AU search window with a collapsible by company section, similar to how the new nav window is collapsible by channel

maybe you don’t understand the idea of workflow. it’s a thing that is inherent to the artist and different artists have different ways of working (like choosing on the fly an instrument for a particular part of a song). a work flow that works for one artist may not work for another. much of a workflow is built on familiarity and then intuition. music is magical that way. why would you assume i know exactly what i’m looking for while choosing an instrument? what if my workflow is a familiar list of my equipment that i go through until i am (magically) pulled to my instrument of choice?

yeah you’re annoying because you’re just unnecessarily trying to convert someone else to your work flow when this thread literally had nothing to do with you and what you think you do best.

    oooh. I think I touched a nerve.

OK, I'll go away, though the suggestion stands to make a feature request over on the AUM Discord. So far the thoughts from the developer that I've seen aren't going in that direction. You'll probably get hearty support from other Discord members. Maybe you'll be successful. Best of luck.

  • I think I can see why AUM adding a list of 14 Apple AU’s doesn’t bother me. I own too many FX apps and stopped scrolling that list a few years ago. I suspect many here have a similar “problem”.

The search function is my default workflow to bring up an FX App.

If I did use scrolling of the list regularly then I’m sure I would be begging to NOT see Apps listed that I did not buy and do not intend to use. It never hurts to ask.

yeah you’re annoying because you’re just unnecessarily trying to convert someone else to your work flow when this thread literally had nothing to do with you and what you think you do best.

What I love about workflows are that once a person has one they will never, ever, ever compromise on it: devs are then expected to clutter their apps and code with workarounds and additional settings and the whatnot to meet at times the most bizarre and convoluted workflows (of which you’re often left scratching your head thinking “really?? this is very simple - why are you wanting to make it so complicated for yourself doing it THAT way??”)

Offers of advice - “have you thought about trying it this way? it’s actually really good and might complement and speed up your workflow” - are met like they are personal attacks or insults when all they are are someone simply taking the time to try and help. And then things start to get nasty and things get polarised and then the discussion eventually gets diverted by someone essentially trolling with a sarcastic comment, much like this one.
