  • Hey Matt, if you really don’t want to sell NS2 source code, make it open source, will ya?
That will be a great service for humanity

  • edited February 19

@israelite The developer already said he won't. At end of the day, it is his code, and we don't get to decide what other people do with their intellectual properties.

  • @KRPT Hi, please change the title of this thread, it’s getting flagged as clickbait.
    Cheers

Needs more smiley emoji’s, maybe a “lol’ here and there
But seriously, the man is telling it like it is, from his perspective, so no, no NS3 as we speak. And no audio tracks either, deal with it 😂😂😂 lololol

  • It's 85% C++, 10% assembly code and 5% Apple-proprietary language (that's the shitty 5% which breaks all the time)

    LOL

He sells it tho, the price is 5 years of retirement so 500K? is there anyone rich here? lol

    I think Matt's straight talk
    is quite refreshing actually.
Paying £10 per day just to keep
    users happy is ridiculous if
    you're not earning from it.
If there is a way to be able to
export the IAP's that would be cool
however my approach as is many
is to download the app+IAP's and
don't update said iDevice and then
    make music.
I think Matt is doing a great favour to
the iOS community by setting it free
    before it disappears.

  • I hope the smileys and lols translated as my poor attempt at being funny
I love NS and was one of the apps that got me into iOS as a music platform like 10 or 15 years ago.
I still love it as before, but times have changed, it is what it is

    1. Your IAP’s will disappear when he deletes the app from the Store, even if you download them.

    2. £10 per day for what? An App Store account is $99 per year. Need a website and contact form? Grab a template and a £50 per year hosting account, or do it for nowt like this guy: https://motion-soundscape.blogspot.com/2022/07/spacefields-universal-ios-and-macos-app.html

    3. Keeping users happy, particularly those that have supported you in payment and promotion is not ridiculous, it’s the right thing to do. Though I realise that’s not fashionable these days.

  • I thought it was BM4 or something that was about to drop?! :D

Can not agree more. In terms of getting an address there are companies who provide mail address services. You don’t have to share your home address as a developer. 10 a day it’s 3650 pounds/euro a year. Ist the effort worth it? Not counting support for people who already put money in your pocket in the past by buying your app. But yeah, asking people to care for others might be too much these days? Hope I am wrong.

I'm pretty sure that "£10 per day" was a typo. S.B. £10 per month.

  • I've actually tried this "Virtual Office Address" thing for keeping my apps in the EU.

    I lost patience after:

    • hidden costs being added all the time after the initial agreement, in the end being closer to EUR 100 / month instead of the initial EUR 60
    • the company (Regus) requiring outlandish bureaucratic shenanigans to "approve" the address, including going to a police station for witnessing my passport to prevent "money laundering" and "terrorism" (!)
    • you get the vibe 😄

But yeah, I must admit I probably have below-average patience with bullshit.

If they do then I have ample samples that I can use.
There's loads of links on the Forum for free samples.

As @wim has mentioned that's most probably a typo however that's what I read on the dev's message to everyone.

    1. Keeping users happy, particularly those that have supported you in payment and promotion is not ridiculous, it’s the right thing to do. Though I realise that’s not fashionable these days.

Creating music with the app is supposed to make you happy.
If Giku decided to end dRambo right now obviously I would be
rather upset especially with the amount of time and effort that
I've invested into the app and platform
however regardless I will just adapt and move on.
Bitchin about it is not going to do you any favours I'm sorry to say.
The dev of NS 2 doesn't owe you or any of us a damn thing really.
That's why I appreciate his efforts in setting the app free
as much as possible including the IAP's however temporarily
however it seems like it's really upset you so get it off your chest.

  • In regards to the tenner a day

"It's easy to set the up the EU Trader stuff

Sort of, sort of not. I can set up a burner phone but a PO box isn't permitted, and I'm not putting my home address on the webpage. I could use my accountant's registered business address but they don't really want their phone number in the public domain on the app store page. Both communication mediums are archaic in 2025 anyway. Obviously it's not an insurmountable problem, but for a tenner a day? Just make it free, job done."

I've gotten to use it for 6 years. The people that get it for free right now cannot time travel backwards and get six years of use out of it right now. He's not taking away six years worth of usage i've had since day one.

    Commenting, not ranting.

Which comment? You’ve made a few.

If this platform is to attract serious musicians, who will in turn attract serious app development from larger music software companies, then it needs to prove it is a stable, professional environment where the work they do and the apps they purchase are safe from trackers, changes in purchase agreements, or their work lost due to the software disappearing altogether.

    On a lighter note... 😎

Someone asked about NS1's fate on the Blip Interactive forum, so I dug out my ancient iPad 2 to see if I could still install it. After some (expected) hassles I was able to do it. Man! I never fully appreciated NS1 before. I had hours of fun, and made a couple of tracks I liked a lot ... without a hiccup on a 24 year old device. It didn't even break a sweat.

If anyone has an old (pre iOS 11) iPad, now might be the time to dig it out and see if you can get NS1 loaded onto it (and also back up to a PC with iMazing) before it leaves the App Store forever. (See here for details of what I needed to do. ymmv.)

Kinda cool to think I might pull that old thing out again in 2049 and re-discover NS1 again. 😂

I honestly don't see anyone ganging up on you, just responding in kind to your initial terse response. 🤷‍♂️

I'm with you that the situation sucks, but I already ported over my drum sample folders to GR2. I have my soundfonts loaded there as well.

And, truth be told there are better sound library AUv3s on iOS than what's in Obsidian's IAPs such as Korg Module Pro, Beathawk, Pure Synth Platinum 2, XinematiX, Iconica Sketch, etc. And the Halion sounds in Cubasis 3 are chef's kiss.

But now that NS2 and its IAPs are free for a short time, why not just take advantage while you can? No harm, no foul.

Ranting about an app tha was generously set free
isn't going to attract serious musicians in actual fact it will certainly do the opposite.
The recent offerings on the iOS platform are stable, solid and are now almost or are on par
with their desktop equivalents and have been for some time which is why I espouse so much about them.
I was about to focus my live stream on the iOS platform full stop however things have changed.
I'm an award winning recognised musician I can drop names all day however
I wouldn't recommend the Forum to any of the musicians I know right now.
Serious musicians have been attracted to the platform however once they have arrived at the Loopy Pro Forum
they get put off and are reticent to engage and then go elsewhere hence why there are thriving FB groups
with lots of app focused support from users rather than constant bitchin.
The Loopy Pro Forum has made loads of positive changes over the past year and a half.
Far less one sided political arguments, less toxicity and better communication
between forum members unfortunatley it's male dominated.
The Dev's are notoriously reticent to come on the Forum however
when they do they are welcomed rather than attacked these days.
Basic priniciple if someone is shouting at you in your face what are you going to do?
There's several ways to react however you can choose to engage even further (I'm doing this right now)
or simply ignore and walk away which I'm going to do after I've finished writing this.
