Lots of questions in the YouTube comments. Completely ignored.

  • Oh cool! Hope iOS comes soon!

I totally get that, once you get involved: hours upon hours wasted for some possible small gain but a guaranteed headache.

Then again, they could have been turned off instead.

  • Hmmm… just looks and sounds like multiple instances of Enso?

Couldn’t you do this in Loopy Pro?

It's similar to asking "Can't you do this in Drambo?" when new apps are launched.

  • Will need to investigate once it's out. It clearly has a more streamlined workflow for working with multiple Ensos, and playing with them interactively.

Not digging it at all on desktop. UI is horrible and difficult to make heads or tails over. And getting clicks in audio. They still don't seem to be able to get rid of clicks. Enso has been plagued with them for years and now Circa. Seems like a haphazard idea that got pushed out to soon. I don't see what it offers over Loopy Pro or even Ableton Looper.

That would be very disappointing if it still has major click problems. I see the UI has some envelope options - does tweaking those not work to remove clicks?

  • There are both play and record envelopes, you´d think that these would remove any clicks if set appropriately. The manual describes how you can create seamless loops of sustained material with automatic crossfading.

Yeah, given the flak they got for Enso, I find it totally unfeasible they would release a new looper not having fixed that

I asked them about the Enso click problem and they responded that they chose to shorten the crossfade because someone else wanted it to be tight for faster music. They really should make the crossfade length adjustable!
I'm very surprised to read that Circa has the same problem. They knew about the Enso click before releasing Circa... That definitely will hold me back from buying Circa.

  • The record envelope is adjustable, at least covering the range 20-100 ms, perhaps more (those numbers are used in the manual for creating seamless loops).

Only one person reported that and they also said 'UI is horrible and difficult to make heads or tails over' which would make me think they might not have understood all the controls (no offense meant, and that might not be the case. I'd refrain from passing judgment for now, I reckon, til there's been more feedback

  • Well let’s hope for the best then :)
It would be a fair move of them to add a crossfade adjustment to Enso too. Since having that pop sound it really takes away a lot of joy for me unfortunately.

I’m definitely not dismissing this app… yet. I’ve been a fan of most of the AD apps. Some are among my all time favs. I don’t always like the way dev’s GUI designer’s angry and dismissive vibe when interacting with users… so it’s likely a good business decision for him not to interact at all. ;)

I’m just trying to figure out what this new app is exactly. I can’t quite tell from the video. I no longer buy apps just because of the dev or user hype or beta tester hype. No matter if it’s a great dev with a proven track record. I’m trying to not impulsively buy any new app that gets hyped at launch, and wait for the demos and real world use case scenarios. And, whether I’ll personally get much use out of it.

Doesn’t even have to be something I’ll use often though. If it’s unique and the price is reasonable, and I think I’ll at least get a few weeks of pleasure from exploring the app, then that’s often enough.

This one still intrigues me, but that’s mostly because some of the AD apps have been among my favs in the past, and I tend to like the app’s GUI designer’s (Chris) taste in interface design.

That’s Audio Damage… Dig into their past a bit to understand more about the attitudes of the founders. Dating back to their hardware attempts…

They will never get another cent from me.

At least I got to try the desktop version before buying it on the app store and not being able to receive a refund. Apps really should have a trial period. Would save people from wasting so much money.

I agree, every app should have demos. When people keep buying only to be disappointed, it's no good for anyone in the long run. Users get disappointed, disaffected, and may end up deciding they're better off sticking with desktop. If they're picky about what they buy, and only buy on sale, they might even end up spending less than they would on iOS...

Open beta for iOS version here. I haven't had time to check it out deeply, just spent 5 minutes. Anyone gone deep? Any first impressions or more considered verdicts?

  • Great to have open betas for trying it out.

If someone with deep knowledge of Loopy Pro ( @espiegel123 @wim ?) could chime in on what Circa can offer that you can't do in LP, that would be much appreciated.

I'm sorry, @bleep, I'm not interested enough in Circa to take the time check it out.

I don’t know anything about Circa.

  • That's ok. I was trying the open beta and it is easy enough to get some loops going, but I don't have enough familiarity with LP to know whether it is better to go in that direction. Perhaps this is a good moment to do so.

You can join the public beta via @Gavinski’s post above and check it out if you want to.
