I have pretty much zero time to check out apps unfortunately.
Fair enough.
UI is hard to use on touchscreen - I had to use the apple pencil to have much chance of dragging the loop start / end points.
.
Getting some loading issues on my iPad mini 5… but after a hard reset, seems to be working now.
Kinda diggin it actually
Any news on this app? I'm intrigued.
FYI: The latest beta update fixed the loading issues I was having only on iPad mini 5. There were also reported syncs issues that have also been fixed in latest beta build.
Quickly becoming a personal fav
Pretty solid now, but no idea 🤷♂️ when they’ll release
This sounds good. No crashes so far and everything is pretty easy to figure out.
Now that it is out, I feel an obligation to make a demo video... I got myself all excited for this, and not being standalone sucks for me, but it's A LOT better than no AUV3! I use my RC505 looper in both synced loop mode and free running mode. The free running mode allows for ambient sounds to all run at different lengths, so with all the loops running the song becomes kind of infinitely varied. Very cool to see a RC505 but touchable and tweakable. For 8 bucks, that's pretty cool. But I really have to sit down with it and see if it truly measures up to the RC505.
Anyway, I'm psyched by the specs, and the price.
Just saw this pop up:
(Edited post title to reflect release)
I’ve recently got a Morningstar MC6-Pro and am looking really forward to incorporating stuff like Circa into the workflow
How long can a recording be in each loop? Could I, for example, use file player in AUM to feed long pieces of audio (say 2 or 3 minutes) into each loop?
From the manual:
Maximum Recording Time
For efficiency, each layer has a fixed maximum length of ninety seconds when operating with a 96K sampling rate. Yes, this means that the maximum length is three minutes with a 48K sampling rate, and a bit more than that at 44.1K.
90 seconds is max according to the manual.
Which I just started reading, I was on the beta but haven't got around to use it very much and I am missing something. Once I get some better clarity I'm going to grab my guitar and try the multi-out which seem to be a cool setup.
Edit: My apologies @Kashi I read just the first sentence and thought I got it: Here it is verbatim:
For efficiency, each layer has a fixed maximum length of ninety seconds when operating with a 96K sampling rate.

Apart from multi audio out, everything Circa can do can also be done with Loopy Pro (+ a few FX's). And the same with six instances of Gauss! That last app must have been an inspiration for the dev of Circa, given the Gauss 'copied' speed control with quant off/on...
That doesn't mean it's not nice to have a looper with 6 tracks to 'just try something out'. The Default preset is also not set up for tempo and start/stop with the host (which may seem strange for an AUv3-only app) and therefore invites you to just loop and overdub some incoming audio (a guitar via TH-U in my case) without the host running and dictating the tempo.
My experience with Circa so far? Not so good. Crashes after fiddling with the Trigger button, the Stop button not always stopping, the Undo button not always working as expected, the list of Modulations options not having a scrollbar (so you always have to work in fullscreen to see them all), 'Scribble strips' in Settings (for naming tracks/layers) not being saved per preset, and 'Display tooltips when hovering over controls' (ditto in Settings) not working for a touchscreen of course.
Stuff like that....
I haven't made up my mind about Circa yet. But just to mention that Gauss (very annoyingly I think) misses one feature that Circa has - ability to grab the start and end points of the loop and move them. Yes, in Gauss you can make the loop longer or shorter but that's not quite the same, and only adjusts the end, not the start. That said, grabbing the start and end points in Circa is a bit of a hassle - it's easy to fail in that task and to accidentally adjust the playhead position instead. Off the top of my head, I think Circa must do some other stuff that Gauss doesn't, but am not familiar enough with it yet to remember, and not in front of my device.
Well for one, you can slice and play those slices (don't think even Loopy does that). Anyway @Harro, almost any new release of app/s can be done with a combination of others already existing. Hell, why do we still get new releases of delays and reverbs what have you? Should we ask them to stop maybe, I don't know.
One more thing though for your comparison: I despise Loopy and have given up totally, yeah I removed it the other day despite being up to date. I don't care, that app makes me feel like I'm a fucking moron every time I try it and (it might be right) I'm tired of that - Circa is exactly what I wanted to use loopy for, you know, like a guitar loop station (e.g Boss). Hopefully we can get bugs ironed out so it works in a solid manner. Please report what you state here as bugs to Audio Damage, I will do the same.
Anyway guys, you're supposed to be able to drag and drop samples (you can copy between circles) to the circles but at least in AUM I can't get it to work. Something bugging me about just that, AUM and drag and drop. Have you got that to work: Harro, Gavin?
Best,
Ulf
Good point about the slicer, forgot about that, quite a neat addition. I tried just now dragging a sample from Files in slide over to a circle in AUM, doesn’t work
Yeah that I had tried, I was thinking if you had used it elsewhere. Never mind, I try to set up something in Logic or Cubasis later. I'm totally crushed but gonna try to make sense, the slicer thing is really neat and I thought you could set it up so you can play them via midi and that you would set that up on the modulation layer but it ain't there. I've had a few crashes now and luckily have saved the project so I can start over. The sample recordings are not saved (like Harro say I think) though and that gonna be an oversight or a setting I miss (yeah you have to tick a box for that .. I'm answering my self ha ha, so tired).
Sorry for the rambling, hope you can make out something useful.
I played with it on beta. I tried setting up various apps to do basically the same thing (mostly) but, I kinda preferred Circa for this specific layering of captured samples. Sure, I could do it other ways... but for me, Circa is a preferred interface.
I wasn't aware that you're supposed to be able to drag/drop samples. I know that you can between the Circa loops. Seemed to always work fine for me. Are you sure it's supposed to be able to drag drop other samples from outside of Circa?
Regarding the saving of the samples... it doesn't appear to save for the session, but I think it's supposed to. I think they are aware that it doesn't actually work. However, I found that if you save a session as a user preset within Circa, it does actually save the captured samples.
I had some crashing and such on an iPad mini 5, but the last beta (which is the same as the launched version) took care of most of it. Seems there's a memory issue, ie. you need a newer iPad with more memory than my iPad mini 5 has. My iPad Pro M2 is fine without crashing. The last beta update got it to where I could use it on the iPad mini 5 too... but I had to make sure nothing else is running in the background that's also taking up memory.
I haven't bought it yet, but even with a few issues... nothing has been a dealbreaker for me and I'll certainly be purchasing before the intro deal is over June 1st
Yes, I assumed that slices might be hard to expose to parameters as the number is not fixed, but I dunno. If you care about it you could probably email them and mention the other issues too. I gave a ton of feedback during open beta, not sure any of it made a difference. Cool app, it really annoys me though when touch gestures like dragging the start / stop handles don't work
Thanks @Harro and @Pxlhg
The handle grabs were indeed bad for the first beta version I tried, but the last build seemed to improve at least one side. I can't remember which one it was L or R, but the other side was still hard to grab. I reported it, but didn't get a reply.
The slice thing is cool. I was able to send cc to the slices parameter, but it only changes the amount of slices. I asked if there was a way to have a cc control that skipped around the slice in-points. I was told simply "we have a slice plan". Not sure what that means beyond they have plans for more evolution in the slice capabilities.
When I asked about the samples not being saved for a given AUM session... since the samples are saved per session in their other Enso looping app... the dev acted like it should be and asked which host I was using. So, I'm guessing maybe it'll be eventually be the case that samples are saved per session and not only if you save a user preset to Circa.
Anyone else having problems getting it to reload successfully in Drambo when opening a project? I’m currently using the latest public beta version but i presume this is the same as the public release?
(Yes, i have reported it to Audio Damage).
This is an amazingly wonderful creative tool.
After a quest that started 30 years ago with my first tap-tempo enabled guitar delay pedal, I think I have found my main-squeeze looper.
As of May 12, 2025, I am having a few stability issues that would not let me rely on it in a live set, but I still don’t think I will be making many AUM sessions without it.
Many thanks to the development team, and the commentators who provide constructive feedback.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers, Sim.
how do you play back the slices ?
You just tap a slice and it will jump to that slice and then move from there
In fairness, it’s very easy to set up widgets in Loopy Pro to do this, with full control over the slice positioning and optional ramp as well.
