I think @Telstar5 landed in this thread because it was linked in a (since removed at moderator request) post in a thread outside the Other wasteland. I don't think there would have been any objection had it not gone down that way.
@McD blame those with capital and a kind of sociopathy that comes with it. The pursuit of profit above all else is apparently a drug worse than fentanyl. Add in some propaganda and hypermasculinity and more than a dash of racism and viola the hyper rich believe in their own godhood and decide to brainwash the poor into their own demise. And at the cost all of our basic freedoms.

You do mention some of the basic essentials for a decent caring society, they would mostly be simple to achieve and would alleviate animosity amongst society.

I do understand your sense of urgency, but I have been explaining that this was inevitable because of the corrupted system that’s in place all across the west, governments of the past have slowly over time opened up the possibility for an Orwellian form of governance.
I have repeatedly posted about the inevitable corruption of the capitalist system which would lead to an increasingly few controlling the wealth and power of that system.
This has been obvious for a long time, even Benn Jordan mentions this in the thread I posted, but others are increasingly becoming aware of this too.
You see when fascism manifested, Hitler wasn’t the sole representation of that system, likewise Trump is just a symptom of the system in place, not the underlying cause.
Realisation of this is key before you can even start to formulate a solution.

Socialism with careful financial management and excellent administration works for me: Singapore, which is very diverse and mandates DEI like practices for diversity between religions and cultures and gains improved productivity and social stability. Simple mandates like no littering or spitting out gum on the street.
If anyone implemented true Christianity they could get closer to a society that values and protects the least of us as core value. Managing the resulting reactions of those that don’t want to see anyone get something ‘free’ is the art of making that work. It usually creates a democratic pendulum like the US and GB see with extreme polarity as a governing model… it very inefficient but creates partisans that commit to the work. The US is being locked down by zealots and invaded by libertarians like Musk and Vance to destroy the old order and re-imagine the world into a meritocracy that looks dangerously close to feudalism. It’s interesting to see how many Ex-South African whites are leading this movement.

The 3 main areas of spending every year are defense, health, and social security.
Forget DOGE and cutting back on "government waste" - that is a drop in the ocean compared to the 3 big spending areas.
Should the US cut back on defense, health, and social security because it can't afford to spend money it doesn't have (should anyone spend money they don't have)?
Is the US insulating its citizens against the pain and hardship of reality by saying "don't worry - we'll just borrow more money"?
Fun fact: the interest alone on the 36 trillion dollars is more than the US spends on defense each year. That's how "out of control" this endless borrowing is.

Social security can be fixed. It was being fixed. That’s stopped. Trump now just wants to deny people access and use it as a slush fund.
What I do agree on without reservation is the amount we spend in the defense industry. Notice I didn’t say on the military. The military it’s people and what they need for support to do their jobs, be healthy, and for the veterans is absolutely something that shouldn’t be cut. The republicans cut those services all the time. For ONE example burn pits.
What should be cut is the endless hole of black box R&D and the contractors that bilk the government for the nuts and bolts millions a pop.
NONE of this changes that we were paying down the debit in previous administrations and that the GDP was rising and people WERE getting more money in their pockets and not being tossed off Medicaid and Medicare just to die.
It also doesn’t change that everything Trump is doing is authoritarian and that he is demonstrably a dictator.

No one is “taking down” China, economically militarily. The only way China falls is from cultural change within it x a precipitating event “could” be economic problems. But so far as the biggest holder (until recently - as they see us unstable and not a good ROI + tariffs) China is better situated to outlasting Americas threats/bluster and criminal bullshit.
