If you want to test all the presets, use it as AUv3 in any DAW and and press play, it doesn’t matter if nothing else is playing, start playing the iwavestation, a good majority of presets are tempo based and sound completely different to just static playing, try varying the tempo too 👍
I tend to agree - there are many cheesy 80s sounds. BUT - it’s packed with so many presets - I think everyone could find a few sounds they find useful for many styles of music. I find most of the cheesy stuff to be the guitars & pianos, but there’s some great pad sounds. And lots of useable drum/percussion sounds too.

I also tend to judge a synth by its presets, but in this case those presets were created in the early 90’s when the major manufacturers were trying to include “traditional musicians” in their marketing. Maybe it’s unfair to judge the presets over 30 years later.
The Wavestation can be purely electronic, to appeal to more modern genres, but users will have to rely upon creating their own presets. The wave-sequencing style of synthesis is a different approach that will take some time to become competent at. What this app really needs is the ability to load user samples. Maybe they could make the Korg Sample Builder an iOS app….? Fingers crossed!

It’s funny but i hardly ever use presets and I make my patches about 90-95%of the time (depending on the instrument)… I have a very strong feeling this is gonna be an exception 😂 I did try but …yeah . It’s okay though cause imho the charm of an instrument like this lies in the presets because if you’re interested in it to begin with, you’re more than likely going to want to capture this specific sounds anyway . The Wavestation was a very unique beast and it was kind of its own thing , so yeah , I don’t mind sticking to the presets here .
Our daughter’s liking what her mom and I are doing and said she might add her own parts too…might throw Viral on there too ,might make it into a Lacuna Coil type trip , who knows? 😎

While I would love that, Korg clearly takes their time and they have a long list of apps to give the AUv3 treatment. I figure Wavestate will be arriving in the 2030’s.
All down to personal taste of course. I find the majority of presets in most synths to be dreadful,...but the Wavestation ones really do it for me. Especially when you start messing with the X/Y pad joystick thing and start bringing some animation into them...
Indeed, all down to preference and taste, and the kind of sound we want to make. Korg make great products, but this is not for me. Enjoy! ☺️

Here’s a little work in progress featuring iwavestation (among others ). It’s playing in unison with Aparillo at the beginning of, and they’re roughly at the same volume.
Not even close to completion but figured it’ll be good for those on the fence on iwavestation to hear it in a bit of a different use for it. Plus I like the patch I made in SX1000 too lol
