Mmmm.
I was rather hoping for something extra today from Gadget. The last update was actually nearer 3 months ago by my calculations (around the 4th of Sep?)
I don't want to update to iOS8 (yet) and Module seems expensive, very high filesize and purely focused on piano (lots of it!). I suspect if I want piano in a track i'm best using another piano app and importing it as samples.
I understand that it's great for talented people who play and make music with amazing sounding piano - and I think that's good for moving iOS music forward etc. It just doesn't add up for me right now.
On the plus side I guess it shows that Gadget could integrate with other apps in a plugin kind of way, although it seems like it's purely just accessing samples in another apps folder. It's not doing what Auria does with Turnado in terms of sucking in another app like a plugin.
Maybe in the future they might push this to further to integrate with other (KORG, or ideally non-Korg?) apps. TBH though, electribe would the only one I think would really add something extra (although I know people rave about iPolySix and IMS20).
But TBH, if they just got on and either implemented MIDI OUT plus Audio Tracks... and/or IAA like Cubasis then all of the above wouldn't really matter. Gadget would be the full DAW that KORG said they wanted it to be when it got released.
Maybe one day / maybe not.
But until then - I really think they could at least do a few small things people have been asking for all over their forum like upping the max sample length to more than 5 secs for Bilbao!!! 10 seconds would halve the amount of time I have to spend chopping up and importing samples! Unlimited would bring it into line with Nanostudio. Is it really a big development overhead to do that in 3 months? And I could understand it if it's for memory reasons on older iPads - but now they are going to iOS8 and massive >1GB IAPs I think that ship has sailed!
And channel strip FX?? Everyone wants this.
I'd pay too! I'd probably pay them a silly amount of money!
Urgh... I would really love KORG to just get on and develop that killer single destination DAW that really works in terms of the iPAD and workflow. Gadget is so nearly there but it's so difficult to get it to work with other wonderful apps.
And, no I don't aprticularly want to save out 1GB of stems each track and learn how to master them in Auria or Abelton (which i'd have to buy). I'd like to have some basic mastering ability inside Gadget or use IAA FXs.
Rant over.
I still love KORG and I still love GADGET. Guess I'll just have to be patient!

Really?! That sucks. Maybe they only fixed the default kit samples or something. The only thing I can think of is to make sure your samples have clean fades.

okay,so i might do it even if had not a big problem with"clicks"in Bilbao.I only noticed it when fast repeating the same note all over again, which was fine to me.
Just to be sure:restoring does NOT wipe own sample kits, right?i made a lot now and would be quite annoyed if they were gone...
@Matt_Fletcher_2000
regarding Turnado plugin in Auria:are you shure Auria is able to access the original Turnado app or does it Install just twice then?
Might have to make some presets within the Turnado browser and check back if they show up in both.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 My guess is they will add audio tracks for IAA and AudioBus last. That way they can keep on adding gadgets to sell (like effects gadgets, Kaoss pad gadgets, legacy synth gadgets, etc.). I mean they could add audio tracks first, but then all the cool iOS synths would flood their enclosed market, so to speak.

As we all know,IAA can be quite flaky and you can only use one at a time.Speaking for me,i would prefer a rock solid"native"gadget (multiple times available) anytime over IAA or Audiobus.
@Crabman "regarding Turnado plugin in Auria:are you sure Auria is able to access the original Turnado app or does it Install it just twice then?"
I'm sure you're right. I'm sure it's a copy of the app built into the Auria app (although it's clever in knowing that you have already bought it). I kindof released this as I was writing that.
But I think my vague point is they obviously provide an open architecture / business model to allow 3rd parties to write IAP modules for Auria. Can you imagine if KORG/SB made a Turnado FX plugin for Gadget that could be automated with the Gadget piano roll (like Auria)? That would be unbelievable and make my music about 50 times better over night !
@1P18 - the cynic in me feels you are spot on.
But the optimist in me believes KORG are a good company of seriously cool looking Japanese dudes (and others) and they meant what they said in that first press release when Gadget came out about it being the ultimate mobile music making DAW and adding audio tracks (i'm paraphrasing).
Just to clarify Turnado in Auria, yes it is a copy and also a slightly different app. The Version in Auria doesn't have the XY pad live controls that the iPad version does.
I think this is probably a case of using the new extensibility features in iOS 8, which is why it requires it most likely.
ah yeah, you are right.I only use Turnado in Auria so i forgot about the XY pads.
30 dollars for basically nothing more than a piano? Almost makes me glad I dont have ios 8 to get this . I have a feeling this is not going to be one of their better apps as far as consumption goes lol.
"basically nothing more than a piano"is just a polemic reaction to me,sorry.I find the price also a bit steep but this is mainly because i have just no use for most of the sounds of it.And we are all still spoiled by the app store prices...
A polemic reaction. Of course it was as intended. do not be sorry.

Korg is one of the very few big player who is totally up to date and releases great stuff (not only ios related) so i don't think it's fair to trash them now just because they released something you don't want.Personal disappoinment aside, there is much more in module than just a piano but if you don't like it,don't buy it.So do i.
OR buy it and deliver some seroious impressions/criticism based on your own experiences.
I'm a big fan of KORG, not just because they know how to build stuff that's affordable and fun but also because they are quite responsive and nimble when it comes to their iOS app projects. If there's a bug with any of their stuff them and Steinberg are quite high on my list of companies who actually will fix them sooner rather than later.
I love KORG.
It just seems they don't love Midi Out or audio in that much .
With both IAPs installed in Module, both Module and Gadget still are showing their original size in iOS settings. The IAPs should have added 2-2,5gb in Module at least. Did Korg find a loop hole here or something? Seriously, I am really curious where those downloaded Ivory and Worley samples ended up, since iOS settings doesn't reflect any appsize changes..
I am a huge korg fan! Duh! Check out my name! My comment stands as stated and you get to feel how u like too! Is that not cool? I love my korg M50 with karma software even. Just not this. I also own every app they put out almost. Do try not to be offended.
iOS 8,a high price and just pianos for. Me thats not good i hope Korg releasé a new synth instead of a lot of pianos
They will@Aphex said:
I'm pretty sure they will. There is still a majority of"real"keyboard/piano players or even solo-entertainer so why not trying to please them as well and not only the small community of synth geeks?
Korg has always done stuff for people like this (look at all their long list of workstations and arranger keyboards).
Was looking forward to using the new Korg Module sounds, but I am sticking with iOS 7.1.2.
The Korg website lists all the new Gadgets as being compatible with "iOS7 and higher" which is a bit misleading.. Not sure why they put out a software for iOS7 that requires you to upgrade to iOS8 for new Gadgets... Big bummer and misleading advertising on the Korg site.
Gadget isn't affected by effect apps in AB or IAA. Doesn't bother me that much but I thought I mention it since it's strange. Maybe just on my device.
Watch Dougs video if you think it's all pianos.
@Cubilas said:
I think the ios 8 requiremet has something to do with the way Module and his gadgets having access to the same library,so,their descision is understandable imo.Otherwise people would shitstorimg why it blows their always-low-on-mem devices out of the water ;-)
But i agree, they could be more clear on this topic.
I don't have a problem with a super high quality piano (and other real instrument) Rompler app and gadget component. It's great. If it makes sense for KORGs business then it's a god thing s far as i'm concerned because i'm sure we want them to keep investing in iOS.
I might even buy it after a few drinks. Or some of it.
But I would have liked a few bits and pieces added to Gadget other than a mysterious fix to the samplers that no one can work out what they fixed (maybe they just replaced some of the in built Abu and Bilbao samples to make them less clicky at source?) - and MIDI over bluetooth.
@Matt MIDI over Bluetooth was added in this update.
I noticed that when starting 'Gadget' first time after Installing 'Module' the Gadget App spent quite a while 'Installing'... I suspect it copied many files over from Module into Gadget, maybe using private docpicker extensions that are only available in iOS8...
Prior to Installing 'Module' i had roughly 8.5GB left and After Install of Module and 'Module into Gadget' i have brought 5.7GB left...
3GB. Wow...
I don't have that kind of spare space on my 32GB Air 1 unfortunately.
And if I upgrade to iOS8 then i imagine that in itself will need another extra GB or something.
@mgmg4871 - thanks, yep I know. Sorry my sentence wasn't clear. meant that i hoped for more improvements other than MIDI over bluetooth.
Anyone care to estimate the minimum extra memory size (and cost) i'd need to give up get some of the nice new piano and other sounds?
I've bought pretty much everything else KORG have put out - and everything in Gadget so far. So i'm tempted to dip my toe in.
