BeatCut - A Sampler app for Video! (AUv3 Ready!)
Edit the app is out!

Hey everyone, I've been working on this new app for a while, and it's ready for the beta testing.
It's very much like a sampler with 16 pads, where you can assign a video clip (from your gallery), the "chop" points, speed, play mode (one-shot, looping, ping-pong, etc.), and VFX tricks (flip, color change, zoom, etc.). When you press a pad, it plays back the clip just like you assigned it.
You can add background audio and start recording your new video by pressing the pads. It's very fast, so you can create really fun video edits, jump cuts, loops, etc.
It's obviously not a pro tool, and not AUv3 (yet, lol), but a fun little creative tool. The target audience is probably the tiktok kids and Insta teens, but if you are interested, please go ahead and give it a try.
There's a demo project (a countdown with a progress bar) that I used for the development and left it inside, but I’ll probably change it soon with a little more helpful demo project.
Also, there's an optional tutorial flow walking you through all of the controls.
It was designed for iPhone (portrait mode only) but works on the iPad as well.
Let me know what you think!

Sweet! I’ll check this out for sure.
Wow that sounds super interesting. Looking forward to it. Also, that’s some high level lateral thinking!
Weird app
Wow: Is there anything else like this on the market ?
Looks interesting Cem!
@Telstar5 this app called Smash Cut came out a few years ago, also based on taking a sampler style approach to video:
https://forum.loopypro.com/discussion/57015/smashcut-visual-synth-released#latest
This reminds me of an app from yesteryear but can’t find it or remember its name. May have disappeared. I’m sure Doug did a video on it back in the day. I found smashcut visual synth but recording is only by screen recorder and I don’t think it’s the app I’m thinking of.
Anyway whatever, great concept for an app.
Edit: Might have been Touchviz.
Works very well but I think it would be much more useful if it imported the sound of the video clip. One could always detach and delete the audio before upload if that was required or the ability to mute the audio in the settings.
Sounds right up my alley, excited to test this out. Congrats on the work @cem_olcay
Would be nice to rotate imported videos. Very cool app so far.
Nifty app. I’m having a lot of fun with it.
It’s been crashing or hanging up when I’ve tried to reverse or ping-pong a clip, but I’ll make a note of it on Test Flight.
Only suggestions I can think of so far are the ability to slow it down even more than .5x, and to rotate the clip 90°.
Very nice app @cem_olcay. Only criticism so far would be to question why the video is half hidden behind the performance pads? Doesn’t look good and doesn’t aide functionality. Having the video displayed on the interface, auto-sized to fit above the performance controls so that it could be seen properly would be much better in my opinion and should, at the very least, be an option in settings.
Would some sort of crossfade settings be possible for transitions from one pad to another?
As we enter the era of Crate Digging for VHS 🤣
I love this idea and can't wait for a full drop! Will keep my eyes on it til then!
I'm working on a fix for the reverse utility. It creates a reversed version of a clip when you select ping-pong or reverse modes, so it still plays the video forwards, but the reversed version.
It should automatically rotate the landscape-mode videos, but I can add rotation controls.
In the iPhone, I wanted the show the video fullscreen, for tiktok, shorts, reels vibe.
I think I can change it on iPad since we have much more space.
Cool, thanks.
Ping pong crashes for me too. This is shaping up to be a very fun app, though!
The landscape mode doen’t rotate.
Are you on iOS 18? Looks like the imported videos are autorotating correctly on iOS 26 but not on iOS 18, working on a fix right now.
i love it.
On 26.2
Thanks to the anonymous tip I’ve received from the testflight, I’m adding transition fx per pad (fade in, slide left, right, up, down). Also the new v5 should fix the clip rotation and rthe ping pong crash issues.
The new version dropped! We are getting close
That is awesome! Can’t wait!
Vidibox?
@cem_olcay, transitions work well but maybe even longer transitions need to be possible?
Would it be worthwhile I wonder to be able to set a bpm and have the option for quantized changes from one pad to another? Could be useful.
I see the video is still half hidden behind the pads on iPad. Can’t there at least be an option to see able to see it properly albeit smaller?
MIDI mappable pads? Then the video could be seen as big as possible without the pads visible.
I don't think I can change the video layout. Even if I put the video on the top half on the play mode, I need to make it full screen again in the edit mode, which is not good. I also experimented with side by side layout on ipad but it didn't work either.
I just added keyboard support, I can add MIDI triggers as well.
Mapped the keys for pads:
1, 2, 3, 4,
q, w, e, r,
a, s, d, f,
z, x, c, v
Does anyone have some good free video sources to test out? @cem_olcay have you been developing with a particular set of videos?
There's a lot available at Pixabay...https://pixabay.com/videos/
Shame about the layout but if it can’t be then fair enough. Nice to hear about the keyboard and, hopefully, MIDI support! Cheers.
