Is this more rompler or synth?

its a synth. You can use samples in it, but its not a rompler!

    That’s good. Thanks.

I see it has a prophet-5 filter option. Will this finally be somewhere near a prophet emulation on iOS? (I know Roland is a different company)

I’m genuinely started to wonder about selling my MC707 now.

I wouldn’t… Used prices suck on them now, and it’s still an amazing hands on interface. I’d never sell mine, and if prices keep falling I’ll buy another just as a couch device. Best standalone all-in-one device for love performance ever made. Hidden behind 3 layers of typical Roland bullshit of course.

    oh, i want that too!

I don't have access to the Roland Cloud now, but I do remember the filters being decent, but I have no way of gauging the authenticity really except when compared against other VSTs. Ive never owned or played a Prophet, except the Prophet 600 in a shop far too long back to remember lol. I do think that generally the Roland filters are probably on par with most digital emulations out there.

The Roland works on partials which are like a one OSC synth. Four of these are mixed together with lots of ways for them to interact. Then you can layer these four partial synths like you would on the Fantom etc. Will be interesting to see how well an iPad copes with this, say compared to the MC707 etc. Some heavy presets on Rolands really slaughter the available polyphony as I remember.

Im no Roland expert, as I've only had a little time with some of their gear. I do think it's very welcome if they get it right on the iPad. Fingers crossed :)

Zenology GX is heavily optimized and uses up to 40% less RAM than Zenology Pro, and this is what made it possible to port it to iOS as I understand it. I have high hopes for this one, and it clearly shows Roland is a serious player in the iOS game, something I have been saying over and over again in the Zenbeats thread. Roland is in it for the long run, and my two cents are on that we’ll see a new version of Zenbeats coming following ZGX AUv3, but as usual, only Roland knows if or when. I know though, 💯%, they are fully aware of our wishes for Zenbeats and having both Logic and Cubasis running in the race and presenting great apps, the stakes are high.

All in all, this is great news for our little niche!

    😊

    AU support confirmed. Great news.

AU support is being worked on for a future version, which is not quite the same thing. Sounds to me like we should not expect an AUv3 plugin from the soon-to-ship temporarily free version.

  • I’ll try a free version, but likely wait for AUv3 before buying.

That's a pity, but I intend to have fun with Zenology GX regardless. My plan was to record it directly into Koala Sampler within AUM for Ambient fodder. It appears I'll be stuck doing the screen recording method instead lol.

That could be a bit tricky if it doesn’t have AUv3 support and adding IAA in 2026 would be a move in the wrong direction…

  • Interesting strategy...releasing a synthersizer on iOS, for "free", in 2026, without AUv3 functionality!
Seems like a blatant attempt to get us hooked on Cloud...

Confirmed working on it. Hopefully they are getting that right before shipping the product.

Yes. Probably one of the best groove boxes ever made. The sound is stellar.

Don’t worry. They will have to make it work in Zenbeats and since Zenbeats is AUv3-only it will be AUv3. Anything else would be insane. Question is at launch for iOS or later…

My guess is that ZenBeats will have a 'built-in' version of Zenology GX that can be fully unlocked using IAP as this would allow much tighter integration with the host.

As both products are 'Roland Cloud Locked'(ie. require Roland Account) for authentication and purchase verification this would make perfect sense :sunglasses:

Steinberg something similar did with the Classic FM and Halion Selection before the they went on the AUv3 route and separate apps with Iconic Sketch, Verve and Etude but all those still include 'native integration'.

    We'll see what happens...

  • What about those Boss effect pedals? I’d love them on iOS

  • So, any recent updates about Zenology GX?

I hope they give us a launch date soon. Or maybe they delayed the launch so AUv3 is included upon initial release.

True, but it's been how long since NAMM 2026 ended? Lol, I want it now. 🤣 (I'm being facetious a little bit.)

I am sure they’ll release it as soon as it’s ready. It is not uncommon to show off a pre-version and then take some time perfecting it. Zenology GX will most likely take the place as my primary iPad synth coupled with a few chosen other ones. What are you going to use it for? @jwmmakerofmusic you wanted to do ambient with it, right?

Ambient being the first and foremost genre I want to use Zenology GX for. All the modulation possibilities it contains is staggering from what I've seen of the previews. :) Of course I bet this would also fit nicely in EDM and HipHop as well, which are my other two main genres I produce in.

  • I have no doubt it will fit nicely in my Synthwave / dark synth

Was excited but now too many doubts it'll be a subscription. And Logic ios and Roland cloud basic Are the only music subs I pay. It’s bad enough Crunchyroll just raised their price by two dollars. I hate subscriptions. I’m so cheap I won’t even give Amazon two dollars to remove commercials from Prime video. And it’s not the money, it’s the principle of the matter. Ever since Avid started nickel and diming on protools (pay more for more stuff) i couldn’t stomach it.

  • I was under the impression it would be a hybrid pricing model, where you can pay an exorbitant one-time fee, or sub to it. I'd personally prefer that since I can sub for a month first to see if Zenology will fit my workflow before committing to a one time fee.

Yes, it will be available on iOS both as a sub and a lifetime purchase. This is what @MatthewAtZenbeats said during NAMM.

Confirmed, but also know there will be an extended trial period when it launches so everyone will be able to check out the full feature set for free as well

He liiives! I forgot there'd be a free trial. How much longer would you say before the release, mate?
