On an Island, far, far away…(1950’s/1960’s exotica style)

We’re all snowed in today here in North Carolina, so I decided to chill out musically on a Island far far away by recording this lazy island song. It’s another attempt at capturing the feel of the Exotica genre of the 1950’s/1960’s. Mood music that’s suppose to take you to an Island paradise.

I used a session band jazz app for the bossa beat and bass, drumjam for more percussion, beathawk for the vibes, sunrizer @Spidericemidas presets, and some @thesoundtestroom IAP presets from SampleWiz 2 really gave it a special island sound (awesome presets Doug!). Used chior/voice from XinematiX. Recorded in AUM using MidiTapeRecorder, and also MultiTrackRecorder. Pianoteq for the piano.

Here are a couple more of these type songs I’ve shared here:

  • This was a treat to listen to. ❤️

  • What a production… It reminds me of the arranging style of Van Dyke Parks: he did the orchestral arrangements for Brain Wilson’s later projects like “Smile” (which was only released after years of seclusion by Brian Wilson). Conjuring up Van Dyke Parks takes a lot of layers and and a rhythmic pocket that “sloshes” to create a watery environment.

    Nice work as always.

    @jwmmakerofmusic : Thanks for listening!

    @McD: Interesting - I haven't heard of Van Dyke Parks before, I will check him out. Thanks!

  • @Dav And yet another superb track.
    These must take awhile to get right, and thanks for using some of my sounds too😊👍

    It took most of the morning to make this one. I used your OCHESTRAL DRONE patch a lot in this one, and the main melody here is the BLACK BRIDGE BASS played in the high C6 range, it just had a cool and quirky sound that cut through perfectly. I really like samplewiz. Not only useful, but just loads of fun to play and create with.

  • I like the woozy feeling .

    I’m a fan of his too.

    Yes… I was calling out the woozy feeling. No MIDI quantization here. All tracks live human. I miss that feeling of rhythmic variation at the mS level.

  • Such a lovely airy feeling to the track… great stuff 🙏

  • Another fantastic number, @Dav. You’re so good in this genre.

  • Thank you @GeoTony and @NeuM
