KiraStudio by BleuBleu OU

KiraStudio is a lightweight, cross-platform music studio built for clarity, automation, and sound creation. Compose in a fully featured piano roll, build custom instruments by assembling "generators", and connect everything through flexible effect chains.
Automation is at the core: shape nearly any parameter over time using ADSR envelopes, LFO-style curves, and step sequences with powerful editors. Create motion, dynamics, and evolving textures with precision.
With support for SoundFonts (SF2/SF3), sampling, wavetable and FM synthesis, plus MIDI import/export and WAV/OGG export, KiraStudio scales from quick sketches to full projects. A focused interface keeps you in the creative flow on desktop and mobile.
While KiraStudio is currently focused on video game music, its sound engine is built to grow into other genres in the near future.

OK. You have my attention.
Does this go head to head with NS2? CB3? FL studio? Logic? Loopy?
Doesn't support AU or VST plugins for one thing - instruments are 'created' by combining what they call generators so it could be a bit limiting / frustrating...
$9 makes it an easy instabuy for me. The magic words were "videogame music".
Fkn lovely ui design. Cmon devs, someone make an AUv3 host that looks as gorgeous as this please!
It looks lovely on my iPhone 16 Pro Max! Easy enough to navigate, though I'm unsure where I should install my soundfonts on my iPhone in order to load them into this beautiful app.
I think this is more intended as full cross platform 'stand alone music making tool' rather than a regular DAW with platform specific plug-in support. The built-in synthesis tools seem to be pretty flexible with emulation of some well know Nintendo and Yamaha chips, hand-drawn waveforms, sample import etc.
One bonus is that that one purchase works on iOS, iPadOS and macOS but no clue if it still supports Intel CPUs.
I'm in no rush to get new apps at the moment, got plenty already...
Sure, it's very unlikely this will get AUv3 support. Looks cool tho for sure though. I didn't see any mention of his last app, Famistudio, here. Anyone check that out?
After exploring Kirastudio and then looking at Famistudio in the appstore, I'm wondering if Kirastudio builds upon what Famistudio already has. Just with more features and the like. Still, for $9, it seems a good steal to me. Will report back with my thoughts once I actually get around to building a track with Kirastudio.
One thing that blew my mind is the Gameboy wav synth where I can shape the wave, much like I could with the Game Boy Camera, or like I can in Kamata in Korg Gadget. That's pretty cool. It also utilizes handles much like NS2 and GR-II have.
Looks quite groovy but a shame they didn’t keep the portrait on iPhone design from their chiptune app…
i like this one.. so far checked only on iPhone but i like it ..
Sez it’s compatible with my 2015 Intel Mac and only requires MacOS 12.
I'm so tempted just to check it out, even though I know once I play with it for a bit, it'll get set aside like so many other apps. Gonna try to be responsible this time.
Ha ha! Listen to me talking like being "responsible" with $9.99 makes me an adult or something. 😎🙄
Holy Sh*t though. What a beautiful app!
😂 Haha. I spent the $9, and I like the app so far.
After watching the tutorials this could very well turn out to be the next must-have for chip-tunes on iOS/iPadOS...

...even though there are things like Deflemask out there seems to be insanely well polished
Just curious about the export options? (.wav export to Files.app would be enough).
That part of the manual is not written yet...
I picked up miniverb, love it, but realized I don’t really own a “dedicated” chiptune synth (closest is SNESynth but not 8bit). Minibit on sale, so was thinking of scooping that, but then I saw this one released. Looks rad and would fill that void in my toolbox.
@jwmmakerofmusic since you bought it, like Samu asked, is it capable of exporting stems that I could then open in say AUM and apply stuff like miniverb to it? Thanks 🤙
I just looked, and it seems you have the option to export stems alongside the main mix. I could be wrong, bu in the export section, scroll down to the bottom and turn on each stem you'd like to export, and that should do the trick.
@jwmmakerofmusic
Thank ya for the info (and for being the Guinea pig haha)!
.
Says "WAV/OGG export" in the OP but this just goes to show that my eyes need some rest so no impulse buys for now but it might very well be installed on my devices by sometime next week
Lol! This app seems extremely well suited for making videogame music of all genres (aside from other genres of music), which is why I picked it up.
(Pic cropped slightly so to fit the upload size requirements.)
You can export in either format. 😎
'cough' PC user
Seems to be free on Windows.

Seems to be. Just there is no mention of any pricing so it's a bit confusing. Not to mention, a quick 5 minute inspection on PC revealed no way to set audio output.
Glad to see this here. I was actually quite surprised when the iOS port of FamiStudio (the dev’s other app) didn’t make a splash on here when it released a few months ago. I know there are quite a few chiptune enthusiasts here.
Damn, I was pretty sure I was buying Super J8 next week, but I don’t think I can resist this one.
Can we enter notes and/or play the in-built instruments with a midi keyboard?
I read the manual and couldn’t see any references to using an external controller.
I've not seen any signs of recording capabilities yet, maybe something for 1.1 update
Is fami studio a light version of kari studio?
The developer said this in the comments to one of the YouTube videos.
Lots of nice options to scale the UI in the settings.
Step-Entry of notes using either Midi-Keyboard or Built-in Keyboard, Recording and this will be da-bomb for Chip-Music!
I’ve always mostly used FamiStudio for the lovely UI and simplicity, not because I was keen on producing hardware-accurate NES music with all its limitations (although FamiStudio did allow some more liberties compared to FamiTracker). So I’m pretty pleased that now I can have that FamiStudio feel but with an expanded sonic palette.
