Photophore Synth
What the flock is that?

Alright I am interested.. Anyone get it yet?
A synth powered by weird space insects by the looks of him. Nice idea, doesn't sound that different to non insect based synths though, need to see and hear more I think.
a wonderful start this one, midi, audio bus, IAA, and a very rich sound so far. I only wish for a patch randomizer and a plethora of scales to lock into.
I love the sound, can be very lush. A hold for the arpeggiator would be nice to allow for easier tweaking of the parameters when playing around. Some fat bass sounds and pads here!
Hehehe
It does sound quite nice in the video.
Beautiful interface..but I think it's just a VA
Nice find! Looks like fun to play with that organic flocks. This one could break my personal no more synth rule...
Looks great. Not a silly thing to have a beautiful interface, it can make the experience of performing or composing that much different, better.
How many patches are included?
I'll bet you can do a nice Flock of Seagulls cover song with it.
Should "I Ran" to get it?
Ugh, only one video and no audio samples.

Indeed it does sound very nice. I am definitely looking to learn more. ios 7 too. I can feel the love now.
Perhaps Doug will be so inclined but I am not sure I can wait for the video to be honest. I am outside shoveling out from a snow storm with a bruised lung and might really want something fun to mess with tonight when I am half dead lol.
Yup. It's pretty and sounds that way also....haven't hooked a keyboard up to it yet, but imagine through AB and into/out of something else it will make nice noise.

Drone jockeys mount up!
I was just over on the developers tweet page from sept 24 when he was naming patches. He had been doing it for awhile and was asking for help coming up with names. Are there that many presets really? Anyone check it out yet?
You got it Koba? What is your impression?

lol, well said. But look at that UI! (love)
still sounds nice to me, but that could be a placebo effect.
I will try to resist for now.
(I need another VA synth like a hole in my head)
Ooooooh, I so want to try this, I need to go shovel really.

Looks really interesting at an intro price of $4.99. And it seems to have all the basic compatibility you'd hope for on day one.
My questions for anyone that has it would be:
How many presets? How varied are they?
Is it just a bunch of pads, or are there more percussive notes, bass stuff, etc?
A "swarm of up to 100 oscillators" sounds CPU hungry - any issues on iPad2/3? It does run iOS7, which is a good start
@StormJH1 Presets: 50+ spread across sections of Ambient, Bass, Arp, Lead, Chordial. Plus obviously user and plenty of ways to change and mix. This is a drone/scape/wash kit. And nice. Haven't tested with Ab (about to), but if this is your kind of thing it's your kind of thing...happy already.

Wonder what this sounds like "When Doves Cry"?

i count 51 patches, i wish there were 3 times more, and I wish there was a randomizer button as well, but the 51 patches are mostly useable in all the categories which are 4
and the arp makes it very easy to create patches while listening in realtime
it's so worth $4.99 and there is allot of quality room to grow cause the dev got the workflow pretty much done extremely well. it's got ab and IA, and midi out the gate so his updates are gonna focus on more quality I'm sure… and this dev has an ear, I've decided to call this my boards of canada synth

Thanks buddy! I don't do a ton of pads, but it looks like it can do more, and what I heard sounded really nice! Likely to give it a try.
Grab it before it goes up to $6.65!

You aren't going to get 100 oscillators on an ipad2.
I've only spent a couple of minutes with it, but was getting crackling with over 20. Not necessarily how it will be on all patches, just a really quick test.
I should say, I had a bunch of stuff open in the background, and didn't clear RAM, turn on airplane mode or anything to optimise.
YMMV, and mine might vary too with a clean boot, etc...
how do you clear ram?
