Thanks for the comment Zymos, I've also got an iPad 2 so it's nice to know how it's working out for you.
Anyone taking a stab at doing their own presets yet
I clear RAM with that free app called Memory, but I'm pretty sure that if you haven't already had it for quite a while, the version you can download has had that function removed and only displays usage.
Also, I was able to get around 80 on one patch, with poly set to 1.

I figured as much. Sounds like if you aren't pushing the limits with a crazy swarming pad, though, it does work on iPad2?
I have that cMemory app (the Chinese one) or whatever it's called. Still not entirely sure it actually does anything, but if I close everything out and do a deep refresh, it does seem to work a little better, placebo effect be damned! But as soon as you get a couple music apps going, iPad2 RAM gets re-occupied pretty quickly anyway.
More sound examples please?.
Does the synth create any sounds that are unique and couldn't be created on another synth - Nave or Thor for example?

Thanks for the info Zymos, I'm on an iPad 2 as well so helpful to know how it performs.
Wow sounds flocking awesome! Gotta have it... damn I got no more flocking iTunes credits!
Still I am only tempted by the video so far. I need more of a look under the hood!
I got it. I think the presets are ordinary. They sound like they could have been made on any subtractive synth in my opinion. People with more synth experience than me may disagree.
Really very little out on this one to judge by, gonna have to pass for now until a few days go by. Perhaps the developer will get around to showing it in use more by then.
Douuuug !!! Can you ear all those brrrillant flocks in our heads Doug ?

here's another nice write up for insights sake, I'd post some patches/music but I suck.

the presets are just nice starting points and like said before there are not many of them
hopefully the dev will change that. the interface is very inviting so it feels good trying to create patches, it doesn't feel counter creative at all.
OOOOOOO, Im almost onboard for it.
Patch making on this is easy; making good ones of course requires the ears etc, but while it is utterly different in form and function I find this a little bit like Auxy in that its simplicity sends me on. By the same token I was playing with Auxy earlier and enjoyed what I made, but was grateful more than anything for the way it made me realize how incredible Gadget can be....
being the first iteration of the app, it almost has nowhere else to go but up if the dev stays on the same track. I mean real simple additions would knock this outta the park. If he keeps the trajectory of quality here and just adds a few things from frankly anybody's list of things it's going to be a very dope instrument.
ok I did it and I am really loving the ambient stuff. sweet sounds that just go forever. Cassiopia is my favorite so far.
I agree Mister T. Washes over nicely. Looking forward to what someone here (you?) will do with this paintbrush....
Wow, I really like this synth for some reason. Nothing revolutionary here really, but everything is just so easy to access and adjust. The presets are not many but are a wide variety of templates for ambient, bass, lead, and arp sounds. Would need to read more about whatever the "flock" controls are doing with the oscillators, but it adds a lot of depth to the sound.
As stated above, there are limitations on an older device, but totally workable. I found that polyphony had as much to do with causing audio glitches than did the number of oscillators. At about 20 oscillators, the magic number for polyphony was about 3 - go to 4 or more and it starts to break up.
AudioBus and IAA worked, as did CoreMIDI. But is there no VirtualMIDI? In other words, did anyone get it to recognize MIDI control from another app?
I'm a big fan so far for 5 dollars!

I was able to get it to recognize StepPolyArp, but I needed to up SPA first, and then Photophore.
I'd like to echo the question - does this synth bring anything new to iOS? Can it do anything sunrizer can't? If not does it at least have quality component parts, filter oscillators, effects, etc? Sorry for all the questions! A few more days and we'll have all the answers
Yeah, I'm half tempted but need to save some pennies for iFretless, so if I can make the same sounds on other synths then lovely though it may look, I'll hang onto my cash. A Doug video usually cures me of that though...
It seems as if what the flock effect does is try to give some hands on control to mimic the instability of VCOs on pitch. I can see why someone else earlier in this thread called it their Boards of Canada synth for that reason. It's pretty subtle, but in the few minutes I spent with it I was able to get some nice variations from the presets. I'll play with it more later, but if you consider the flock to be a variation on the traditional approach to VA oscilators it has a nice touch.
You can reach up to 100 oscilators, but the more you increase polyphony this drops. 6 voices maxes out at 20 oscilators (on an iPad 4...no glitches btw)...which is still quite a lot, but something to be aware of.
One thing I would like to see in a future update is midi CC. There aren't many controls to this thing, and it would be a bit more useful to send CCs, especially if the focus is to have your hands on the screen to direct the flock. A few more waveforms would be great too. The dev might also look into adding a bit more range to the instability-if you turn the controls up it is more obvious, but opening up the threshold would give way to more microtuning weirdness which would set this apart.
Minor issues, but it sounds pretty great. I'll hook it up to a sequencer later and go to town, but I like that it gives a slightly different approach to the standard VA with the oscilators. It's decent out of the gate. I'd give it an 7.5/10 with some room to grow.
would like to know more of your thoughts on it later Accent.
It has its own thread but I'll stick it here too

I am going to have a go at it on the bus today with Turnado in the fx slot and then with masterfx just to see what this could be like. Definately a fun and worthwhile investment! Did I mention that the pads sound spectacular?
Just bought me a iTunes card......downloading!
The flock thing almost feels "Animoog"-like in the way it manipulates sound and shows that visually, except it's doing it with oscillator interaction instead of "timbres". Not saying that "A is like B", just noting that there are some similarities in the experience of using it.
Interface also reminds of Ondes, in that we're seeing more and more synths that have a really lightweight, non-clutter approach to use of screen real estate, and then all the core adjustments are quickly accessible in drop-down menus. The screenshots are more impressive when you have a whole panel of knobs and controls all on one screen (think like Sunrizer, iMS-20, etc), and I appreciate that as well for a vintage "feel". But sometimes all of that noise can be disruptive to the process of trying to make music.
Performance-wise, I was able to quickly remedy audio glitches simply by stripping out a few of the oscillators in the flock, or lowering polyphony. Still keeps the underlying qualities of the sound you want, just a little less rich.
OH, one major request I felt I wanted that hadn't been mentioned: the delay/echo works well, but the delay time is just guesswork. Many delay knobs on iOS are synched to BPM (1/4, 1/8d, 1/16, 1/16t for examples), display the delay time in miliseconds, or both.
@Seangarland - I stand corrected about the MIDI. It recognized my MPK Mini immediately, but was not showing MultiTrackStudio as an input option. Could have been my fault due to settings, though. Some apps just seem to "work" with MIDI setup, and others require a lot of adjustment.
Yes, I wish it had more presets, and I wish there was some easy way to swap them (email? cloud?), but saving them is super-easy. Make adjustments, click the box with the 3 horizontal lines, and then hit the "+" key.
@StormJH1 Agree with all of your input on this one. Would also like to be able to swap/share user patches, this might be a big plus for the developer etc (and the users
