  • I wish I could update to 7.1 but that is no longer an option either.

I understand why people not want to update to iOS 8 but I don't get why they didn't at least installed 7.1.Makes it very hard for devs to track down every possible bug.

    +1
    dont understand

  • I do not understand your failures to understand? I did not update is all there was really no underlying motive here lol. I know that each update seems to bring more troubles and that is more than likely why. What was so hard to understand really? I have limited space for updates and did not want to is all. In hindsight I would but unfortunately it is no longer an option without going to 8. ??? I am missing your point here. You updated and I did not. It has little to do with this thread actually come to think about it. This was supposed to be an ios 7 compatible app.

  • Works on iPad 4, 7.1.2

  • There were a bunch of warnings/advice about how if you were planning on not updating to iOS 8, then you'd better get your iOS 7.x.x updates done before it was too late. And now it is.

Not that it really matters at this point....

    My thoughts as well.

  • And mine as well lol.

  • Wasn't one of the key selling points of 7.1 that it would improve iOS 7 performance on older devices? But I get how people missed the opportunity, since iOS upgrades on iDevices is a gigantic pain in the ass if it requires you to free up 3.2 GB or whatever of space. Less than that if you do it by iTunes and cable, but still...

The glitches I was hearing on iPad2 are similar to clicking I hear on iFretlessBass or any number of apps if you do quick note changes. I'd hope to see them improve, but if they didn't, I think I could still live with the app.

  • Great sounding synth, I look forward to midi.

  • Since a few here were wondering about the size of the app, here's what the dev said on FB:

"As the programmer of FM4 I can confirm that it is the graphics. For example the four operator level knobs each have their own 'dirt' and also they can be lighted up if the operator button is on. We are thinking about slimming this down in a future update -- we just thought it looked cool.

We have used no samples and the sine/log tables are less than 64KB in size -- to make it sound gritty."

  • Keep it looking cool, i like that dirt

  • Re: betatesting apps.
I see the declared version is .4. The deal seems quite fair to me. This app is going to cost much more in the future, so in a sense ealry users are "paid for" their adoption, if you know what I mean. And you can always put it apart and wait for the app to become more mature. Agreed, a no-brainer for me as well :)

Sorry to take this off topic - is that a big issue? Just checking as I was thinking of getting iFretlessBass for my iPad 2

  • So what exactly isn't working on the midi end of this? I just tried it for the first time, playing from an external keyboard and external sequencer with no issues. Set the channel and it worked like anything else. The only thing I did notice was that the bpm in the app didn't reflect the same bpm as my sequencer (stayed at 120 while the sequence played at 160), but I didn't notice any actual issues when syncing the arp or anything. Maybe the developer meant midi CC isn't working?

I dunno...if you haven't tried controlling it over midi due to the initial note about it not working, you might want to just try it for yourself and see.

No, not really. It mostly works just fine and is the best dedicated bass app by far. There is a youtube video on how to reduce the issues, too. Was just giving an example on how other apps have issues too if you push them.

  • I wish it had more patches but it sounds amazing as is.

  • Any word on a fix for this yet? Soon?

    more patches soon ;)

  • But will it be fixed soon so I can finally play the new patches is the big question here.

  • edited December 2014

    yes.Very soon.

edit:i see,you are talking about the fix for your dusty 7.0.2 or what it was ;) Sorry, don't know.Just shoot the dev a mail instead of asking here...he is a nice responsive guy.

  • The very first line in the App Store description mentions the 7.0.4 crashes and says they are looking into this right now and will update as soon as possible. I think that's awesome for an app that is currently so inexpensive.

  • Im on 7.0.6. Not very dusty though it gets a work out daily in fact and works great with supported apps in fact with none of the many reported bus of 8 in fact! Cool beans!

  • Update is out that fixes the midi bug (tho if you see my previous post, midi appeared to work fine before). Also implemented Steinholtz-Wegmann tuning.

I really need to spend more time with this app. The subtractive control structure makes it an FM programming dream. Hopefully between this app and the Lemur templates for my TX7 and TX81Z I'll have a firm understanding of FM programming by this time next year.

  • I never noticed any issue with midi before the update, but i also did not use it or test it that much this few days, the only thing i notice is that is a little slow getting in and out of the app in the multitasking screen wich i find strange on an iPad air 2. It used to happened with some apps in my iPad mini, its the only one of my apps that does this on the air 2

  • Yay, new update today! Going to go try it now!

  • edited December 2014

Nevermind it is still not working on 7. There is a disclaimer however blaiming apple for the failure to test it prior to release, that is interesting!

  • edited December 2014

I bought it and guess I really don't care for the FM synth sound at all, or else this is just a bad example of one. I didn't like a single preset. It's the coldest sounding synth I've head on iOS, and that's saying a lot. Oh well, I'm only out a buck. Glad I didn't pay more.

  • Yes, FM sounds cold. That's the point! It 's a great contrast to warm analog sounds.
This one is the closest I've heard to the TX81Z in software. Great job!

    I agree, I own a TX81Z and it's pretty close match.
The Envelopes on the TX81z are a little different and there is the 'note delay' feature i just love on tv TX81z and it's also 'multi-timbral' but has limited polyphony, but this FM4 is close enough for me to leave the TX81z in the closet for now...

Time to re-create that classic 'LatelyBass' Preset then :)
I wish i could import the loads of TX81Z presets i have into FM4.
    http://www.synthmania.com/tx81z.htm
And YES i could honestly pay a buck or two to get the original TX81Z patches inside the FM4...

  • Would be nice to have something on iOS that approaches the warmth and breadth of FM8.
