SoundPrism Pro has always been one of my fundamental instruments and composing tools, can't do without it, so I just got Electro two seconds ago. In just playing it for a minute I've suddenly got a head full of new tunes! This app is awesome: both the sounds and the playing structure are unique and fantastic! The only bad thing is I now for to put it away and go to work. Thanks Sebastian for another Epic app!!!

Thank you so much, knowing that you enjoy your time with music and getting inspired by this instruments is purely awesome!

Is there any plans to do a version and use a vibraphone, celesta and sounds like that, I've become a bit obsessed with the vibraphone ever since I discovered it was the instrument behind the sound on a lot of my favourite tracks. Also if you did an instrument version, don't know if this is in electro, could you consider making the keys on the the left respond to sliding up and down to change the volume to mimic aftertouch or dampening if it's a vibraphone.

Could be useful for assigning it to carry out different functions in other synths when using midi, like animoog, or I spose you could just use the ribbon controller for dampening, but I'd love the keys to respond like that, unless they do already and I've missed it, in which case ignore this. Think I will pick up electro tomorrow after I find out how much flux is, enjoyed doug's demo, very nice sounding, reminds me of the big sounds from the jp8080.

I asked about sounds with a similar vibe to what you're asking for earlier and I get the feeling that they are very receptive,

  • @kobamoto

That makes me happy, could call it soundprism-vibes.

I was gonna sleep, it's 01:30 AM....But I totally zoned out using this app together with iSymphonic. 1 midi channel for low brass staccatos/sustains and the chord section in SP and some full string section on a second midi channel in iSymphonic = insta-random-MickealBay-movie shiznit.

I use the old one for things like that as well, but the new SP Electro adds a few more ways to setup the bass input behavior in relation to the chord/note section that works really well if you wanna do both bass stacs, low strings (in this case), and a higher solo thing going on, all at the same time. Really awesome, simple and FUN controller/instrument this is. :)

Btw, I checked out a few help sections, and using overlays on the interface + making the tutorials interactive is definitely so much better then a boring plain manual. (Edit: I think I mean. I don't like any manuals. I'm just too g.o.o.d, too s.m.r.a.t and above silly things like...manuels).

  • which iPad are you on chris? I'm sure I've asked before lol

  • Air (1). iOS 8.something

  • I like the fact that the internal sound engine is controllable through the volume switch, while not affecting the midi levels, although I'd like to see independent volume sliders for bass, chord, and melody. Not a criticism....just a wish for future consideration.

  • So it literally will only work on IOS 8 or higher? I'm afraid of switching to 8 because of all the horror stories i've heard.

Do it, @Chuck! ;) Do a backup and full reset if/when you do.

Man, these SP Electro sounds are nice! I like the way the bass, chords and melody controls are tied together while also distinct from one another, and love the way the new playing modes are set up. It makes me wish there were more multi-timbral apps (tri-timbre?) to live up to this thing's MIDI mojo and ensemble expressiveness.

  • I like that the volume control allows one to skip the menu-dive required when switching off the sound engine on Pro.

  • Soooo many great suggestions and feedback. We're going to keep all of it in mind when doing updates and new apps and all of that good stuff. Thank you so much!

  • just bought, amazing thing

  • Thank you!

Btw, please don't forget to leave a review on the App Store if you enjoyed SoundPrism Electro. It really helps!

  • Looks like a great app @Sebastian, buying to now to play with tonight.

  • So with coremidi in and out can i trigger the chords from a midi keyboard? Not quite chear how that works unless there's a manual floating about. :)

Yes. And there's a manual built into the app.

I don't know if this is what you're thinking, but when you send midi notes to any of the three channels, it's just triggering the notes you send (the four playing modes don't affect midi coming in). In other words, you can't do one-note chord triggers from midi the way you can play chords with one finger within the app. You can, of course, play or program midi chords to be sent to SP Electro, but then you're just using it as a sound module.

  • hmmm is that possible with sound prism pro I've never tried that?

Have you had a look at the video on page one yet? The playing modes are different, in that you can play melody, chords and bass with just one tap, while using three different sounds (or 3 different synths) in the background and manipulating the built in filter with the y-controller (or pass that on to a synth in the background). It's just... more massive.

  • You got my five-star App Store rating, @Sebastian! The tones are top-shelf, and I plan on making good use of this for post-rock backdrops and layering.

I was referring to the ability to press a single key on a midi controller and have it trigger chords within sound prism pro?

Sorry, that's not supported, nor do I think SoundPrism will support it any time soon. Theoretically it sounds like a nice idea but practically a piano keyboard cannot simply be mapped to the SoundPrism interface - it works the other way around though.

  • thats for sure I use it the other way around allot :)

  • I didn't think it was i was just trying to understand the purpose of midi in, something like that would be useful with the iconnectmidi but this is basically how Cthulhu works anyway.

  • I think one of the primary differences between SP Electro and SP Pro is that the app produces sound. It would be very nice to be able to record the midi from the app into a Cubasis midi track and have it play back like you can with other iOS synths. The sound set in Electro was carefully put together since any combination of bass, chords, and melody should work well together and be able to complement other electronic music so it'd be nice to use those sounds in other ways outside of being driven by SP Electro and midi in would be a way to do that.

  • It does that perfectly. You can setup a midi track in Cubasis and record the midi output of Electro. Of course when playing back it triggers back Electro.

What Sebastian is saying is that you cant press a single note and have that trigger e chord in SoundPrism Electro.

    Greetings :-)

  • In fact thats how i did my video teaser.

  • @o_imseng thanks for your comment. After some investigating I was able to record all three midi channels into Cubasis from SP Electro. Later I was able to play back the midi and create three separate audio channels for each midi track. Misunderstood the midi in aspect of the app and thought it could send and receive core midi but it has it's own virtual midi in channels. Definitely glad I learned some things along the way.
