  • Well that sounded awful. Hello Soundblaster Awe 32 & General Midi.

    1. This looks promising so far.

    2. The Juno architecture is simple, but magic. The parameters are few, but very carefully chosen. There's an excellent software version for PC and Mac, TAL-U-NO-LX, but nothing close for iOS...so far. Epic Synth has the look but not the sound; that hasn't stopped some people from getting useful things out of it.

I'm not sure about this. I used that thing in the last millennium. I'm not sure I want to go there again. LOL

(They could have spruced up that interface a little maybe, Yikes :D)

Also, do you think saying "Born 1991" is a good idea?

Note: it's not a good sign when the demo sounds beyond horrible.

Then again, there's this inexplicable retro thing going on. I'll bet these guys are lining up for that one.

(I'm using Roland's BK-7m presently, so i can get my fill of cheesy from that :D )

Of course if they want around 5 bucks, i'll snatch it up.

    Curious.

  • Had to listen again. Can't get over the demo song.

  • Call me crazy, but I will get this just to own all the original super cheesy sounds.

Considering that the originals had quite limited amount of ROM for samples i think this app will be quite small, maybe around 30MB's or so.(My Yamaha SW1000XG had 20MB ROM).

  • No need to call yourself crazy or justify it, I'm all over it myself.

  • I wonder if Roland would release expansion packs for it?Just like on the old JV 1080. Would be nice if they did. Great to have there Vintage Synth modules, classic Keys, ect to buy as add on extras.

I like the idea of having a classic rompler with a (most probably) small (memory) footprint and a lot of different not spectacular but useful classic (Roland) bread and butter sounds available in one app.Depends on the price if i want to have it or not though. And it would be nice to have a real multitimbral app.

  • Hmmm, we shall have to wait and see what appears before our wondering eyes.

  • If anyone finds out about a release date or price, come back here and post! Looks interesting. Even if (many of) the sounds are cheesy, that doesn't mean it's useless, if the workflow is done well in terms of getting MIDI files in and audio files out.

  • Roland can do a lot better. An iOS JD990 would be welcome.

  • I'm curious to know what features it will have, iOS integration and all, beyond that I'll always welcome more sounds.

  • Perhaps they will do better after an initial release plus who really knows for sure just what is included with this release just yet.

Yes we do have a ton of sounds available currently but a quality all in one app as far as nice sounds could be very useful surely.

  • This looks interesting. Bring it on. At least this is not another bleeps bloops or fart machine :) It is what you do with the sounds that actually matters and "sound" is such a subjective concept. Roland still make highly desirable sound machines and I don't think an iOS app is going to compare to what they currently do with their hardware stuff. Even so, this is a great development. I wished they would make an app to go with my Roland VG 99. That would be awesome. One step at a time though.

  • An IOS MC-505 and SP-808 would be nice!

  • iOS MC 505...???....Oh Yes indeed..... I second that one.

  • I still own a MC-303 (Boxed in storage room), most of the MC-303 factory sounds are present in the SC-8850 on which the iOS Sound Canvas is built on...

The MC-909 would be a more suitable 'iOS-App' and give Gadget some competition as it also included a sampler (272mb worth of Ram when fully expanded 16+256mb).

  • virtual v-synths....

  • I have a D2!

  • I am guessing this may launch at NAMM later this month?

  • I think you maybe correct. Just like Cakewalk(Roland) did with Z3ta app.

You know, if you're gonna let it dust to death in a storage room, I can take it of your hands, and make it happy again! Send it over mister!

I know it will get a 'revival' soon too, just like my Eletribe ES-1 did a few months ago :)
It's so 'refreshing' to once in a while to pick up something and just tweak the hell out of it...

My MC-303 has old 'firmware'(1.01) full of bugs, it can randomly 'freeze', some samples play at slightly random pitches(like 909 RimShot), this is fixed in 1.03 but there never was an update replacement ROM for the MC-303 available in Sweden :(

The refreshing thing about the MC-303 sequencer is that it's not strictly limited to 16th or 32nd notes as it's possible to place notes anywhere on the 'grid' using Micro-Edit.

Too bad my Nord Micro Modular decided to completely die, guess I tweaked it too much because when it died it started to smoke inside, maybe i made too complex patches on it, who knows...(The Mobo is damaged beyond repair)...

  • I have an MC303. :) The arpeggiator is deep and awesome for use in live performance. The sound engine isn't great but sending midi out to other synths it makes a great synth looper.

    You synth torturer. :(

The Mc303 was the first groovebox I tried out, in my local music store. Back in the 90s. It was also the last. Always kinda drooled over the mc909 for some years, but never got one (and it wasn't exactly the cheapest thing around). It does look like either one of Korgs two new Electribes will be a purchase tho. That darn @tarekith totally sold me on it. :)

  • I did have a 303 and I loved it but the sound just became too dated. It was built like a tank and easy to use.

    Alesis SR16 anyone?

That's just a drum machine. I wish their app worked, but it didn't have audiobus or anything so I tossed it.

  • I've been waiting for Roland to do something like this, and the Sound Canvas was always one of the mainstays back in the day. As for value today? Broader sound palette & it can't be THAT expensive... and why wouldn't Roland (or any such entity) NOT want to make such a move?

  • Just noticed a new sound demo posted a couple of days ago.
