  • Well Korg listened (eventually) to all the requests for landscape view in Gadget.

And who knows, if we complain loudly enough maybe Roland will listen and add IAA and AudioBus support :D

Let's hope they listen, aren't Roland and Cakewalk linked, if so Z3ta on iOS is fully integrated, so what's the reasoning with Canvas?

Sorry guys that do iOS only productions but I will insta buy this. A new sound module for my studio :)

I'm not sure if 'new' is the right adjective here. ;)

Old is the new New :) The power of Roland is here with about1600 sounds. What's not to like? My automap enabled keyboards is going to be a happy chappy playing live into Logic.

Absolutely true. You could make a pretty impressive list of music apps that didn't support one or both of AB/IAA upon launch, and that was quickly forgotten after the fact. Like how FM4 just got AudioBus. I still have other questions about exactly what this app does from a music production standpoint, but we'll see.

Think BS-16i or Sampletank with 16 (32?) channels—this will take care of all of your bread and butter sounds. Big difference is this will land with a metric ton of well organized sounds. The quality of the sounds is the main question for me.

  • Bs-16i or Sampletank with no audiobus or interapp audio /

  • I remember when Sampletank didn't have any export options, audiobus or interapp. #BadOldDays

To the point of those above, Moog Voyagers don't have audiobus or IAA either. If you actually want a hardware Roland Sound Canvas for use in your non-iOS only production work, this will be a killer deal.

  • Perhaps it will. We shall see what Roland decides on pricing ect and how good it is actually.

Your right, but wrong move Roland.IMO.

  • id rather they add Auria integration as per fab filter twin.......now id buy that for sure...

  • @syrupcore point taken but things have developed so much on the iOS platform with virtual MIDI, background audio, ACP, open in, AB, IAA etc., I fail to understand why Roland would choose to ignore this.

  • If they want to run with Korg this is not going to do it I know that. But then the hardware has gone much the same way as far as keyboards at least. They just let Korg take the lead.

  • Believe me I'd love to see Roland shine again, but where is their marketing strategy, aiming for a niche, within a niche, seems crazy to me.

  • Don't get me wrong, I wont even consider it without AB. Even so, I can understand why FrankieJay and others with a non-iOS-only workflow still see this as a good thing. All I'm saying.

  • I wouldn't be too pessimistic about Roland at the moment. Their recent product launches may not be up everyone's alley, but they did get new management who isn't hellbent on neglecting their own history (their old management would have never done the Aira line, for instance). I'm guessing that company is going to be more open to outside suggestion and new development than in the past.

  • I'd always prefer to see AB and/or IAA, but with the iConnect products, the Behringer UCAs, SecretBase Design, and others, there are ways to shuffle the audio around.

  • So, available now in the UK AppStore but as we expected no AB, IAA or probably even background audio. Updates needed!!

  • How bad is the price?

  • £10.99 in UK so probably around $15

  • What the hell would I be able to do with this with no ab or IAA? Suggestions?

  • You can play it live, or you can record the audio in a good old fashioned way. But it seems crazy to me - it's like launching a soft synth on a PC or Mac without having VST or any other way to integrate with a DAW - you just wouldn't do it! A crazy decision...

  • It seems to being pitched as a midifile playback device more than anything else.

  • I am glad I got flux fx instead of this it will be much more useful.

  • But you could get this AND the new DFX effects for less than the price of Flux...

  • I got flux for 15 dollars last week and it is very useful. It was like multiplying all of my synths many times over. It is really that good. I also have a Korg m50 with cards full of pcg files and a mininova, no need for this without AB

  • DFX instabuy, Canvas bye, bye, well for now at least.

  • This is Roland we are talking about, don't hold your breath on the update considering it was not mentioned by them in any way shape or form.

sure it will be ab compatible in the next'update.let's be patient.

Problem is,it's a launch price until Feb 10.I doubt we will have an AB or IAA update or even an info if it's planned until then.I would have bought it but not in the current state. If it's going to be much higher priced later,i'm out.
