The next AUFX app

Just wanted to introduce the next coming AUFX app, AUFX:Push.
It's a dynamics stereo processor with noise gate, compressor with adjustable knee radius, side-chain EQ, and a lookahead limiter/clipper/saturator. See attached screenshot!

Some tweaks and testing left to do before I can begin the release process.

Cheers!

  • I'm lovin it :)))

    so drab. so plain.

    ...so absolutely gorgeous.

could be said about all the AUFX apps

I can't wait to play with this

  • looking forward to it.

  • W-o-W :-) Looking forward to that :-)

  • Crazy! I want it now. Got all the others. Need need need............ ;)

  • It was only yesterday that Mrs. Goodyear mentioned over the dinner table that it was time I had an adjustable knee radius. May your God bless you Sir.

  • Finally a decent Noisegate! AuxFX's is perfect for this because they're low CPU impact so now I can tweak my incoming mic input stuff. This fills a big hole in my setup. Yay and cheers back at you!

    yum @saturator!

Is it possible to set the ceiling on the limiter?
Red dot on the limiter = active/over?
What does RMS do in the detector?
How does Look-ahead work in a stand alone app? Will the buffer size be adjusted automatically if set to far into the future?
If the compressor is set to some setting where it doesn't compress anything (threshold 0db or something) will it use resources? Asking because sometimes you just want a gate or a limiter or a saturator and I didn't see a bypass on the comp specifically.

Not that any of it matters, I'll buy it immediately!

PS. Great old article on some of this fancy stuff like Knees and Look-ahead and RMS vs Peak... http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/dec00/articles/adcompression.htm

  • Are you using Audioshare to record? Is it good?

  • I'm kidding. You're a legend around here.

  • Take my money, now! Everyone seems to have been on and on about a stand alone compressor lately. Voila. Seems someone was listening.

  • Awesome! When is it out?

The limiter and hard-clipper has a fixed ceiling at 0dB, but you can adjust the gain after the compressor to decide where it kicks in, and of course lower the level at the receiving end if you don't want it at full 0dB.

Red dot on the limiter = active/over?

    Yes.

What does RMS do in the detector?

It uses the root mean square value in the envelope follower, instead of following the peak value.

How does Look-ahead work in a stand alone app? Will the buffer size be adjusted automatically if set to far into the future?

It has an internal buffer for look-ahead. The more lookahead, the more the signal is delayed (since we can't actually look into the future). The compressor has optional lookahead, useful to catch transients even with slower attack times. The limiter is always lookahead (but adjustable) and guarantees that nothing above 0dB slips by.

If the compressor is set to some setting where it doesn't compress anything (threshold 0db or something) will it use resources? Asking because sometimes you just want a gate or a limiter or a saturator and I didn't see a bypass on the comp specifically.

It will still use resources, but according to my tests this app will be very light on CPU so it shouldn't matter much. And maybe you actually wanted a tiny bit of compression too, you just didn't know before trying... ;)

At least before february ends, hopefully :)

Actually laughed out loud on that one. You are, no doubt, correct.

Thanks for the answers to all of my other questions!

  • Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the teaser!

  • Here's a test of the side-chain input:

The SECTOR signal is tapped for side-chain input to AUFX:Push. AudioShare plays a loop through AUFX:Dub, then through AUFX:Push (being compressed by the SECTOR signal), then everything is recorded into AudioShare.

Post-processed by running the whole thing through AUFX:Push once again :)

  • Really nice! Can't wait to get my hands on this one, compressors being my most (over-) used effect next to EQ and reverb. I tend to collect compressors & dynamic processors, or stock pile rather, since they all have their own character etc. And the Kymatica character sounds quite nice and push-y . :)

  • Here's with some new settings (negative expander ratio), extreme pumping side-chaining :)

  • And here's the app video preview:

  • Lol, I immediately wen't into App Store looking for a download...
I hope this will also be part of the AUFX bundle?

  • I will look into the bundle thing after initial release. Unfortunately it seems I have to remove the old bundle and make a new one (can't find a way to add apps into a bundle!). Any other devs able to confirm this?

  • Bundle or Not, this will be an insta-buy for me.

  • My bank account number is 555051054332. Jonatan, just take what you need. Thanks.

  • Extreme pumping in a variety of sectors.

  • notice this has a noise gate - would this work well on a guitar signal? I get a lot of noise with Tonestacks distortion effects, and have worked around by using Ampkit in AB Input with it's NoiseGate and TS in FX slot - which works pretty well... but maybe this would be a better method?

  • It's the gate that got my attention the most on this one...

  • from twitter:

" It needs the new update of Audiobus, also coming soon... just put AUFX:Push "Main" in one track and "Key Input" in another."

This sounds very interesting, cant wait to see what is involved on the Audiobus side of things.
