  • On paper the air 2 looks much faster, tri-core cpu clocked at 1.5ghz instead of a dual at 1.4ghz, double the ram, 8-core gpu, yet on the benchmarks iphone 6+ does quite well considering. I always check out anandtech for the lowdown on new devices as they go quite in depth and compare lots of different phones/tablets.

  • i have both and while they're both very fast, its important to remember that most of the good apps are iPad only, although there is still a very good selection for the phone. it does split the workflow up between the two devices tho

  • I just got a new 64GB 6 yesterday.

    So far so good.

  • Hey Matt let us know what you're battery life is like once you spend a day with it?

If Samplr ran on a 6+ It would be great

  • Well, ... It doesn't unfortunately. But you can't beat the battery life on a 6+

  • I've moved away from the 6/128 vs 6+/64 to contemplating the 6+/128, just trying to figure out if it is a good stepping stone to a iPad air 2, or something I should skip altogether if I'm going to get an iPad air 2 anyway…

  • 5s and Air2 ....

  • so does the slow mo feature only work with video that you take on the 6+ or it will work with video that you got from anywhere and put on the phone?

    oops double post

  • Hi kobamoto.

Battery life on my new 6... I'd say pretty much the same as on my old 5.

Can last a whole day. Did today. But only just.

  • edited January 2015

cool thanks Matt, so what are your thoughts about the 6 ?

  • Yeah, I like it. Not particularly revolutionary and not a hugely different experience from using my old 5. But the slightly bigger screen is nice and it makes little difference in the pocket of my jeans.

But I only use it for small tasks like capturing samples from apps, or maybe messing with a drum machine or Figure or something. And for work a lot.

If you want to do anything more intensive (and reading the thread above) maybe you want to consider the 6+.

thanks Matt, I did end up ordering the 6+, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a bad decision because I will get an iPad air 2 sooner than later..still figuring it out as it won't be here for a few days and I can still cancel it.

thanks Asnor, do you find that for your regular use the 6 battery life is not an issue or does it get to you sometimes?

I can't really complain. My iphone 4 was better, but iOS7 killed the performance, so I got to the the point where I didn't really use it for much more than work. Then I picked up a Galaxy S4, which was just horrible on the battery (not to mention the general lack of music apps). So, coming to the iPhone 6 from those two experiences leaves me feeling satisfied over-all. That said, I have considered getting one of those backup battery chargers for it, or maybe that iPhone case with the extra battery built in. I don't feel it is a necessity, though.

Did the Galaxy have anything you miss on the iPhone. I like to hear about neat features on other devices that are cool.

  • I do too, has the iPhone caught up to the competition when it comes to writing on the phone like a notepad or is that still hit and miss?

    so you'd go for a 6+ with 64gb over a 6 with 128gb?

btw how are you using your iPad 4 as a phone :) ?

I have no interest in the 6 at all, so if that was my choice I'd get the 6+. I am holding off upgrading my iPad 4 in the hope for a 256GB version so I'd probably opt up for the 128GB model. My dream device is an iPad mini retina 256GB with the same perf as a Air 2 and a built in phone.

I use Google Voice, the Google Voice app for missed calls and messages and the Google Plus app to send and receive calls and text. I transferred my old cell phone number of 15 years to Google voice and thats the number everyone gets. Google Voice is great in that I can filter numbers and groups and route them to my different numbers or straight into voice mail. For people I want to talk to it tries all my numbers. Rings just like a phone on the iPad and works great with all the blue tooth headsets and my car bluetooth. Only issue is that you are stuck with only speaker phone if you only have the iPad. I'm retired now so my life is no longer wrapped around my phone. This is all via my iPad data plan, I still have the original unlimited data plan from AT&T for ~$30 I've been transferring to my new iPads since my original iPad 1.

You can also send and receive calls on your computers as well through google mail and plus.

I have a cheap PAGO android phone I sometimes carry as a backup, they paid me $20 to take it, no one knows that number but my wife and Google Voice which routes only a few numbers to it. I pay $120 for 1600 minutes a year and have never used them all yet. Never had the iPad fail though, only use it when I don't want to talk on speaker phone. I often leave this at home now.

  • wow thanks for breaking that down Bigdawgsbyte, I didn't even know all of that was possible.

  • @BigDawgsByte Wow. Impressive, almost-military-like precision there Big Dawg. Do you alphabetize your condiments?

  • yeah quite a post, he opened up my eyes to whats possible, I'm going to seriously look into those functions and give them a try.
this forum is just cool like that I learn something new every day

  • @JohnnyGoodyear @kobamoto Thanks, nothing to compare to what I've learned from others here, glad I could contribute a little back.

  • is the front facing camera on the iPhone 6+ the same quality as the back facing camera?
