One of the best features is the ability to process and control any audio being fed into it i.e voice, synths, drum machines, guitars. Letting you then play chords or melody’s with these instruments a bit like a vocoder but with lots more control.
Hi Korakios, It appears I have misinterpreted the audio processing ability of this synth, thanks for the quick reply, you saved me from spending A$13, maybe I will pick it up at some future point in time.
@Samu, The reason I suggested color-highlighting the triangular modulation control, left of the keyboard, is when you select a patch, you don't know if the modulation control has been assigned to any parameters. With my suggestion, you would know immediately whether the modulation control is active or not. If it is gray (not highlighted), then you would know that the patch has no modulation control assigned; and not to bother using it; unless you wanted to experiment and add your own modulation. If highlighted, then you could explore what kind of parameters were assigned to it. It wouldn't have to be a color. There are other ways of highlighting, like a blended ramp of medium gray to lighter gray. This is just a suggestion so that the user knows what has been activated or not.
@bsantoro So the 'Modwheel' should be 'yellow' when it has been assigned to change parameters?
I do admit it's hard to see quickly when and what parameters the mod wheel has been assigned to.
And I never thought I'd say this, but since ZedSynth has a lot of modulatable parameters a list with source & destination with editable values would make it easier to see what source is modulating what destination and by how much, it's a lot of scrolling around the interface
There is (I think) enough room on the screen to show all destinations with a slider when selecting a Modulator.
So for example when selecting LFO1 the area next to the 'Editor' could be overlapped with a list view with all destinations together with a slider, same would go if selecting Mod. Wheel, Velocity etc.
I'm really exited to see what feature the future updates of this synth will include.
I find it incredibly easy to make sounds just the way i like them with this synth even if my iPad is having a really hard time to cope with me, snap crackle and pop...
Here's a guitar-like effect for SP Electro run through Zed Synth. The first part is just SP Electro and the rest is the effected sound.
I actually held off on this unbelievably. Still considering. Not much buzz about this after the first day or so. Anyone using it much? I have so many apps that I am finally getting very choosy about what I want/need. Anyone doing audio or video examples yet?
it is really good both at making sounds and as effect to pass stuff through. polyphony an issue on older ipads but it still is useable even on ipad2.
I like it too, by so far I'm so digging deep into Sunvox. This one is on my queue to enjoy later.
Thanks for the suggestions, it would be very easy to add the mod. matrix in list form in some additional panel. What I've implemented here is closer to what you have on the Prophet 12 and Nord synths. The little coloured arrows allow you to see which parameters have modulations, but don't make it easy to get an overview of all the destinations of a given source.
Some ideas for future enhancements include:
Sample support, particularly impulses that you can then play through the resonator (aka Commutative Synthesis).
Adding an all-pass filter to the resonator to get metallic over-tones (non-integer harmonics, tuning is a bit tricky which is why I left it out).
Better keyboard, aftertouch, scrolling, key held when you change octave etc.
Improved Spring Box, more programmable with individual frequencies & sustain times at each (aka Banded Wave Guide)
Porting to VST/AU to actually make some pennies off this!! My current programming rate is $1/hour. So enjoy 'cause you're getting a real bargain
Hi, having animoog, Magellan ,Thor I didn't want to buy a new synth, but this one has very smooth and delicate character .it was the first time listening to demos and said I'll buy it.
Compared to Thor it lacks the amount of presets and I really need more on Zed cause it's different approach on synthesis. But the sounds are rich organic and convincing. Animoog a synth of it's own category but never actually went on deep synthesis, honestly if I didn't pulled the extra libraries when there was a glitch on the store I wouldn't use it much. Also they sound different with animoog being more metallic and harsh (nice) , and Zed more harmonic balanced. Magellan remains my favorite synth and can create millions of sounds in no time but Zed is miles away on sound quality. It would be interesting for someone compare it to mitosynth....
Keep in mind I haven't touched the lfo and modulations yet on Zed!
I did actually get this(due to the kindness of one of our members here who gifted his to me). Still testing it out and agree that I definitely have several synths I would prefer however with that said, I will definitely make use of some of the patches and perhaps more via patch sharing down the road. I plan on exploring the audio end of this more once I can figure that out.
@RikMaxSpeed
It sounds you are in version2 already if you add impulses and tweak the spring box, thank you!!!
PS. More presets first ,please!
FWIW (Mister Developer), it is/was the lack of presets (as noted by others) that put me off buying....
Hi,
I think that the hold button needs some treatment. I would prefer to remain enabled when switching octaves and disabled when changing presets.
Is the contact&support form on
http://www.jazzman-ltd.co.uk/support.html
actually working?
I send a mail ,but seems that the email is send back from me, to my mail address.
Edit: it works, just saw a mail from the dev!
This time, really dead. Removed from the AppStore
It’s a shame
Though nice for the Dev who has gone on to greener pastures. (Roli I heard)
If you purchased it, it’s still in your Purchases...
Sorry to hear that. It is a very good and very unique synth.
Just opened it back up and had a play. Damn, it sounds good.
I won a code for this but was planning on buying it again to give the developer some incentive to keep updating or working on new apps.
Maybe he just forgot to pay the yearly fee for AppStore and it will reappear?
No
He is done
I would like to buy the app literally from him
I asked the dev about iOS 11 compatibility some time ago and confirmed it works . Also he said he was interested sending him custom presets but didn’t made any , since the app is gone from App Store
Haven’t heard any synth like Zed till now , unless I missed something?
Totally amazing unique app.
One of my all time favorites.
Super unique.
Resonance and FM likeness made this a special synth.
Nearest related synth in my opinion would be Laplace.
Which is another fave of mine.
Dev was making no money on it.
I never quite understood why it was unsuccessful. The interface is kind of ugly so maybe that's the problem.
Sorry to see it go; happy to have it while it lasts....
I think it was that, plus the lateral hell of swipe swipe swiping.
But, I think it was a difficult synth as far as iOS synths go.
Very Tera synth in its specifics.
Which makes it an amazing app to me.
I am all about full control of all parameters and modulation matrixes and LFOs
