  • This looks like it may be the NAMM purchase I waited for! Waiting a day or two but had already pretty much decided on this at the next time it went on sale! Not much else of interest iOS app wise yet to be reported.

Talk me out of it. I have too much stuff!
I love the functionality I have seen but, contrary to most opinions I have read, I am not totally sold on the sound (although that could just be the demos I have seen.)

    Ps. I'm referring to Gadget.

  • TIL there is a @Tritonman and a @Tritonman2

@bonso You gotta tell us which one to talk you out of. ;)

  • Erm, thanks.

  • Same guy here but I think I just signed up twice and forgot some original info , it is still just me.

Lol, yep sorry I meant Gadget.

Module is not of interest! No offence to Module.

  • Wow the sound demos are exactly what do it for me! This guy does some of my favorite reviews but I did not realize he did iOS stuff. Anyway here is a link, English sub titles but he plays nicely and is fun to watch!

  • One thing I like about module is you can slightly edit the sounds, but for me it comes alive in gadget, just nice to have extra textures for layering.

    OK, I'll try.

    1) It's still kind of pricey for an iOS app
    2) You'll need a newer iPad for it to run well with more than a few tracks
    3) While you can do other kinds of music, it's really geared towards EDM

How am I doing so far?

  • Well this is always a subjective matter. I don't think it sounded bad in terms of fidelity, but most of the demos I heard had a slightly samey polished sound that I don't find that inspiring.
TBH, I own an Electribe EMX which I feel the same about, however like on that machine it's probably just down to the style of the programming in the demo projects, etc. that has put me off a bit.

Anyway, I will watch that video, cheers.

    1. Unspent Xmas Gifts.

    2. iPad Air. (Also a fan of minimalism.)

    3. Please refrain from using that term!

    Good effort though thanks :)
I will probably buy it simply because it looks so good to use.

I hope Roland sound canvas is not too expensive because I think I want both. But this module sale sure helps.

  • Damn! I hit the buy button and after I promised I'd stop buying iPad apps without getting an iPad of my own. (sigh)

  • You bought it for a friend?

  • @bonso while there's no denying that unmentionable Dance bent out of the box, you can easily use it for other styles of music. Nothing prevents you from sequencing the sounds you like and then importing them into Auria to do something heavier, lighter, ambient, what have you.

Oh wait, you wanted to be talked out of buying Gadget. Sorry! Please disregard.

  • edited January 2015

Not to mention the new korg module definitely is not edm orientated. Yes I have heardvery good music from all different styles done very well in gadget.

Look, let's call a spade a shovel here, you have to buy it. Simple as that and you'll thank me in the morning (don't forget to leave your money on the dresser....)

    That !

  • What Tritonman v1 or 2 and JohnnyGoodyear said :)

  • @bonso: Gadget has an absolutely awful midi implementation, especially considering the price and "pro" status for an iPad app like this. It's basically just enough that you can use a single keyboard controller for note input. No transport or BPM sync, no discrete channel options, etc. it's really just designed to be an island unto itself...that said, it does give you a whole lot to just make tracks within it, but it doesn't play as nicely with other things as I'd hoped. For as much use as I've gotten from it (bought it at the intro pricing), I kinda wish I'd waited for it to go on sale for its current price.

It isn't a bad app, far from it, but if you're looking for a reason to resist, I think that is worth considering depending on your workflow.

  • Gadget reason not to buy: No undo in midi editor, no pinch zoom. Very annoying. (Though I still like it quite a bit. And at half price...)

  • If you want to hear some good, different, stuff produced with Korg Gadget then listen to Sinking Feeling on soundcloud. Doesn't sound polished at all. For example:

How are you guys using Gadget with your other apps? It doesn't have MIDI does it? Or do you just use it self contained?

Been on one side of the fence for this one since it's release, hence I haven't gotten it. Make me a believer!

Edit: after further research I discovered its midi specs. Thanks for putting up with me guys, I believe :)

  • Can Gadget sequence external midi? Have a feeling it can't...I still believe though.

  • Well, even if you already have a bunch of apps, at this price (about half price), 15 machines (gadgets) for 19,99 € ...

  • Thanks for all the negative feedback on Gadget!

Your efforts in helping me escape from the bottomless pit of compulsive App purchase are appreciated.

  • Thanks for the heads up. Just checked to make sure Module supports AB. I'm pissed at IK Multimedia for how long it's taking them to update iLectric and iGrand so I think I'll buy Module and delete the IK products from my iPad.

  • Bought Gadget last night after seeing this thread. THANKS! For the price, how could I not? I don't do dance music, but looks like some fun could be lurking in these 15 little apps.

  • @tritonman I currently dont have my own iPad but my significant other does and is kind enough to let me fiddle with it. A LOT.

  • Some folks here are using Fiddlewax Pro with Gadget and are really happy. I was blessed to get Fiddlewax Pro, so I will soon be working on both.
Now can't wait for the Korg Trinity App!
