  • but thats still loading it up , its very slow to browse through a bunch of playlist like that, it's easier to keep the iTunes player open and browse that way, which is annoying, you should be able to browse/audition the list before loading on the turntable

Since Beathawk has Audiobus integration, I can run it's output through effects, record them, and import them back into Beathawk as samples without having to leave Audiobus.

Beathawk can only be in Audiobus' input slot.

The user library does not seem to support folders, so importing 100's of samples of your own does not seem feasible, they want you to buy their packs instead, which are nicely organized.

Not surprising since Beathawk is basically UVI's money sink with a bare-minimum feature set to sell their IAP sample packs.

  • Hi,
I am the main developer of Beathawk, I'll try to answer to your questions as much as possible.
Do not forget that this is only the V 1.0.0, there are tons of things to come. we are currently working on stability improvements.

At the moment we do have a basic user library management regarding filesystem and transfers, we will improve this . When we will have this sorted out, the user library will behave the same way as our packs.
The actions you can do ATM are that you can delete or rename a sample with a two finger tap on the sample.

  • Great news @BastienCo. Can't wait!

Please could you advise how to delete the pattern/phrase from a specific track/pad without deleting the sound and all the parameters?

Also can you advise/explain the undo behaviour as when i play a few bum notes on a new pad and press undo it seems to undo some notes from the previous pads pattern (maybe this is just me though?)

Also in the user library if i select 'all packages' and find a certain group i would like to try out say a piano....i load it onto a pad, return to the main page and it does not quite go with the rest of the song....so i would like to scroll through to the next piano in the group using the arrows next to the name of the current pad/patch (under adsr/record/sample) but it then reverts back and defaults to the user library instead of remembering where i was last and letting me carry on browsing intuitively......any chance of getting this to work as above as this makes the most sense?

  • @DaveMagoo, I'm getting that same behaviour too, so it's not just you, BTW I thought it was just me!

  • Beat Hawk is better than BM2 in the same way that a bicycle is better than a Rolls.

  • I reinstalled BM2 to learn the sampling features.

  • Better for the environment?

  • Also having an issue with Undo deleting last 2 takes instead of 1.

To delete a part of a pattern - hit record, hold down erase, then tap or hold on the keyboard notes you want to delete. So if you have a bad note in the middle of a loop - it's Record, hold Erase, and then quickly tap keyboard note in the middle of loop. If you want the whole loop erased - hold Erase and press a note on keyboard and hold it for the whole loop.

Does anyone know if its possible to Copy a pads recording to another pad? For example - I have a 2 bar bassline recorded in B on 1 pad ... I'd like to copy that pads bassline to another and then repitch the sample down to A.

  • @Halftone, thanks for explaining. Nice.

  • Thanks @Halftone :)

Glad it's not just me @knewspeak I wonder if the devs can look into this...

@Boone51 Do u mean: lighter, more energy efficient, easier to park at Asda....erm.....less wheels...0.o

  • The erasing technique is great for rhythmical variations/fills - record some hi hats with the repeat button at 16ths. Then record again with erase held down and just tap briefly a few times to erase a couple of hihat hits.

Yes, you can also alter the groove and overdub record that, haven't yet tried erase with that though, should be interesting?

  • Just wrapped this up in BM2(mixed in Auria)-

of course the impc pros chop lab is a design of beauty as would be expected from a beatmachine that is not a Daw and is only a sample slicing beatmachine. The thing that I really wish every other app would do that only beatmaker does though is allow you to audition audio from your iTunes library before loading it into the sample editor, so that you can browse your library and find something you want to sample first and then load it up and chop it…. only bm2 does this , every other beatmachine and sample editor makes you first load up a file to listen to it, if it's not what you wanted you have to delete it as to not take up unnecessary space and then try another file etc..

Hmmm.. Didn't know impc pro had that feature. I mostly use my iPhone though so that's why I only know of bm2 having that sort of feature. Does the older impc app on Iphone also have that feature?

no that post you quoted was all about beatmaker 2 , not the impc pro

Yeah but in your reply, you mentioned the impc had choplab as well?

Or rolls better than a spaceship, less LEDs.

Rumours have it they've captured a phantom ghost in area 13.3

  • --- To erase sequence from a specified pad of a sequence, just press erase + pad when you are not recording.

--- Undo saves the pattern each time you end the loop or stop the sequence, you have to had ended looping (or stop) before being able to remove what you just did. I will figure something better than that, I agree this could be frustrating sometimes..

--- I'll have a look to there fast browsing arrows no doing their job..

@Halftone, At the moment you cannot copy a pad sequence to another

oh yeah, the impc pro has the dopest chop lab on iOS

  • Put aside most of my recent road trip to having a proper extended visit with iMPC. After having diving so deep into Beathawk and knowing that iMPC had many features I WISH BH had, it seemed only sensible to revisit and see what's what with a head somewhat clear of hype-prejudice. And it IS a deep program with all kinds of advanced cat skinning, but I didn't end up 'making' anything in it. Went back to BH and finished up a sketch in an hour.

All of which is on my plate, not necessarily a criticism of iMPC. Just the facts -for me- Ma'am. However, I did realize that rather than trying to make whole pieces there, it might suit me to make smaller refined chunks of coolness and then copy these for use elsewhere. Just another tool... (much like myself).

Ok thanks......I will try it some more and stay conscious of how it behaves as I use it but I could have sworn it was undoing the last 2 phrases....

...also when I load a project and press undo it deletes all the pattern data for the selected pattern number....is this by design as it seems a little dangerous especially for one with fat fingers!

I think a 'redo' button would fit lovely on the main page at the side of the undo button if you shuffle the grid/groove/tempo over a little ;)

  • Another +1 for redo, with as many levels as possible.

do you ever listen to that damn playlist thingy they've got going on in the app where you can listen to all of the music people are making with it, one thing is for sure retronyms puts out more music with that thing than bug fixes .
now how do I make an un-smiley face.

I know the feeling though, I wasn't making anything in beatmaker, allot of good pieces though but In the end I always felt like if I want this feeling I could use one of my daws on the desktop. Then the way the impc lets you drag and drop everything from one pad to another, or sequences in song mode etc hit the spot. my fav place though of all time to put stuff together iOS wise is still by far Samplr

Just for the sake of Hansard, I should add that you kindly gave me an extra paragraph in your quote of my quote, but I must also give you credit. I think you are an unmitigated shill for iMPC :), but it was this going-on-and-onness that sent me back to try and see past the bad-brand side of the app and just evaluate not what it doesn't do (or even worse, what they said/promised it could do), but what it actually does, right now.

To re-iterate, the answer is a lot of very slick stuff, but it doesn't (yet) lead me to make stuff. However, now I've begun to think it of it as just a part of the overall machine I'm grateful to have got past some of my prejudice and have it to use for what it is :)
